04:25 WanderingEnder >.> I'm wearing my Motoactv on 5.6.0 and wondering where the "golf app" is.
04:27 [mbm] if you have adb turned on I can show you
04:28 [mbm] adb shell am start -a com.motorola.android.intent.action.START_GOLF
05:48 WanderingEnder Hmm, I'll have to remember that. I don't have ADB on yet, nor have I rooted my Motoactv. Waiting for a ROM that keeps motoactv native functionality. I actually use it for walking.
05:49 [mbm] are you using the 8gb version or the 16gb?
05:49 WanderingEnder 8gb version, US retail
05:49 [mbm] http://dl.opticaldelusion.org/boot-5.6.0-root.img
05:49 WanderingEnder MA 1.6.0 N8
05:49 [mbm] same as the normal boot.img but with adb enabled
05:49 WanderingEnder Downloading.
05:49 [mbm] no other changes
05:50 WanderingEnder Nice, thanks.
05:51 [mbm] you'll need a copy of fastboot and then power off the device, hold down one of the keys and poer on to get it into fastboot and run "fastboot flash boot boot-5.6.0-root.img" and "fastboot reboot"
05:51 [mbm] if you want to go back to stock (ie, without adb) there's a normal boot-5.6.0.img at the same url
05:52 WanderingEnder Yeah, I've flashed phones before, but never my watch.
05:52 WanderingEnder Isn't someone working on a ROM with a launcher, market, and links to the built in MotoApps?
05:52 WanderingEnder "watch mode" or whatever you want to call it.
05:53 [mbm] dunno, I'm one of the few people running 5.6.0
05:53 [mbm] that's my server and rooted image
05:54 ds2 also have a full set of 5.6.0 images?
05:55 [mbm] yep.
05:55 ds2 any chance I can get that? I am on ancient stuff
05:56 ds2 no hurry, the white light is blinking... probally low bat
05:56 [mbm] http://www.mediafire.com/?6ce7fc46rcjfjdb http://www.mediafire.com/?rvpuiorxull4gff
05:57 [mbm] boot.img above, system and preinstall in the mediafire links
05:57 [mbm] (stupid google hosted blog has limits on upload size which is why it's not on dl.*)
05:59 ds2 thanks
05:59 ds2 do I need to flush the cache?
06:00 [mbm] probably a good idea
06:00 ds2 'k
06:00 ds2 can't do much til the unit is recharged
06:01 ds2 battery life has been impressive
06:01 [mbm] heh, that's the one thing I like about the factory programming cables; no battery needed
06:01 ds2 factory programming cables for the actv?
06:02 [mbm] if you take a normal usb cable and rewire it slightly you'll have what's known as a factory programming cable; basically you wire +5v to the usb id pin in the microusb connector
06:02 [mbm] which then powers the phone externally
06:03 ds2 Ohhh? Hmmm
06:03 ds2 I am getting ready to rig up something similar
06:03 [mbm] rumor has it motorola uses such cables internally, and many moto devices drop into a reflash mode when they detect those cables
06:03 ds2 I see.. that is an illegal USB mode
06:04 [mbm] well, the id pin is normally left floating
06:04 ds2 or grounded
06:04 [mbm] and grounded for the otg host mode
06:04 ds2 yep
06:04 ds2 samsung (and old motorola) use to use a mux system with a resistor
06:05 ds2 need to get something like that rigged up
06:05 * [mbm] wired up a usb cable with a loose wire to the id pin to play around with such modes, but team blackhat will sell a nice premade factory programming cable for some stupidly high price
06:05 [mbm] yeah, was thinking the same when I rigged my cable
06:07 ds2 or get a breakout with a USB micro connector
06:07 [mbm] moto has also switched from using magnets and hall effect sensors for their docks to using the usb connector and some accessory chipset that talks a nonstandard protocol over the usb connector
06:07 ds2 Oh I see
06:07 ds2 [mbm]: did you ever play with the EZX phones?
06:08 * [mbm] wrote sbf_flash which is shockingly similar to the protocol used by the ezx phones
06:08 ds2 sbf_flash?
06:09 [mbm] you know what an sbf file is?
06:09 ds2 no
06:09 [mbm] prior to fastboot motorola had their on firmware packing format called sbf
06:09 ds2 ohhh
06:09 [mbm] which they used since the early ezx days
06:10 [mbm] moto uses a tool called rsd to reflash, but there's a free linux util to do the same
06:11 ds2 rsd? heard of a psd tool
06:11 ds2 been trying forever to reflash a EZX phone
06:11 [mbm] you mean pst? that was a tool to mess with the radio settings
06:12 ds2 maybe it was PST
06:12 ds2 I just wanted to change from asian firmware to us firmware
06:13 [mbm] doubt there's much use for ezx phones anymore, they must be about 6-10 years old now
06:14 ds2 it is one of the first few Linux phones
06:14 [mbm] oh, interesting
06:14 ds2 it isn't use but the principle of it
06:15 [mbm] well if you can track down the firmware image for it reflashing is pretty easy
06:15 ds2 i probally have the image somewhere
06:15 [mbm] but moto keeps the firmwares locked down
06:15 ds2 just never got it to work...had to use a windows tool if IIRC
06:16 ds2 locked down so I cannot flash us firmware on asian phones or?
06:18 [mbm] usualy hard to find a firmware image, they're all on https://rsdsecure.motorola.com but the portal page to query the database is restricted
06:18 ds2 this came through a third party
06:18 [mbm] they always do
06:18 ds2 apparently those phones were more available in the asian market
06:19 [mbm] also moto have an annoying habit of locking down the bootloaders on their android phones
06:19 ds2 it doesn't seem consistant
06:19 ds2 IIRC, the very first droid was open but the second one was locked
06:19 [mbm] yep.
06:20 [mbm] the droid1 being unlocked was an exception
06:20 ds2 I am curious what the first droid goes for thesedays
06:20 ds2 Oh?
06:20 ds2 almost got interested in a Droid Razr
06:20 ds2 but it sounds like it is too locked up to do anything with
06:21 [mbm] not exactly sure what happened but google decided to treat the droid1 like a nexus phone and do all the firmware in house and feature it at google io by handing it out to all attendees
06:21 ds2 Ohhhh that's the history there
06:22 [mbm] the milestone, which is an almost identical phone but gsm was done by moto and is locked down
06:22 [mbm] also runs the mapphone kernel, where "map" stands for motorola android platform
06:23 ds2 I see
06:23 [mbm] moto run pretty much an identical kernel on all devices, passing in board parameters via a devicetree
06:23 [mbm] in other words, a sort of plug and play detection
06:24 ds2 I noticed that on the actv
06:24 ds2 it makes references to radios
06:24 [mbm] yep
06:25 ds2 i think the sensors stuff even makes references to nonexistant sensors...probally for the same reason
06:25 * [mbm] knos quite a bit of history regarding moto phones and hacking them
06:26 ds2 I wonder what cause motorola to go with Android for this watch
06:26 ds2 seems like a lot of the features can be done cheaper with smaller chips
06:27 [mbm] seems like moto's answer to the ipod nano
06:27 [mbm] and they already had the software platform
06:27 ds2 but the hw for it can't be that cheap
06:28 [mbm] dunno what the cost breakdown of the motoactv is
06:28 [mbm] but I'd be kind of surprised if it was expensive
06:29 ds2 I'd think the fossil watch could be a lot cheaper then this
06:29 ds2 alas, it doesn't do android
06:29 [mbm] pretty much the only reason I bought it was because it ran android (and had similar hardware to a droid1)
06:30 ds2 on a different note, has anyone figured out the MSP430 stuff yet?
06:30 ds2 that's my reason too... was deciding btwn the WIMM and the ImWatch
06:30 * [mbm] thinks back .. that was the companion chip with the sensors?
06:30 ds2 yeah, it is a microcontroller that does the pedometer function
06:31 [mbm] don't think anyone has looked at it in any detail
06:31 ds2 oh
06:32 ds2 would be so cool if they had put in a compass along with the accel and exposed it directly to android
06:32 [mbm] there's also a cpcap for things like power management, but for all I know that could just be implemented on the same microcontroller
06:33 ds2 hmmm
06:33 [mbm] (all the moto android phones have a cpcap controlling charging and detecting accessory modes)
06:33 ds2 Ohhhh I see
06:34 ds2 be interesting to see what accessory modes are available on this
06:34 [mbm] which reminds me, there's some fun cpcap registers you can set to rewire the usb port as 3.3v serial
06:34 ds2 cpcap or pmic?
06:34 [mbm] cpcap
06:34 ds2 thought they used the twl4030 for charging on thephones?
06:34 [mbm] it's usually in the kernel sources as emu uart or uart3 debug
06:35 [mbm] dunno, hard to make sense of the hardware platform without a schematic, so I only know what little is in the kernel sources
06:35 ds2 oh
06:36 [mbm] and almost none of that mentions chips by their actual name
06:36 ds2 is it spoken to with i2c?
06:36 ds2 you can back it out from the bus number since the twl4030 is somewhat special
06:36 [mbm] cpcap has i2c, yes.
06:36 [mbm] bbiab, need to make a food run
07:05 [mbm] .
07:29 [mbm] channel suddenly idle?

18:31 dproldan hi
18:32 dproldan I got my motoactv!
18:32 dproldan really cool
18:37 [mbm] heh
18:45 dproldan it is right that it has a logger folder with kernel, radios,  etc logs?
18:46 [mbm] dunno ho much of that gets written to the filesystem but there are dev entries used by logcat ith the various -b options
18:47 dproldan I just plugged it to a windows machine,  the MOTOACTV drive that appears has a folder named "logger",  I don't think that's normal
18:48 dproldan it has a lot of logs from october 2011
18:48 [mbm] oh
18:51 dproldan did yours have it too?
18:51 dproldan also it has like 25 songs preloaded?
18:55 [mbm] yeah, comes preloaded with about 25 mp3s
18:55 [mbm] logger folder is there on mine but the directories are empty
18:58 dproldan inside logger,  I have 8 date-named folders,  inside them ,  there 5 .gz files with names log.events.txt,  log.kernel.txt, main, radio , system
18:58 ds2 read them. they are insightful
18:59 [mbm] sounds like the same stuff that can be seen via logcat
18:59 ds2 yep
18:59 ds2 available w/o adb so there is a chance of debugging it
18:59 * [mbm] likes adb
19:00 ds2 adb has reasons to be hated
19:00 ds2 like the F'ed up way of telling it new vendor ids
19:02 [mbm] heh
19:02 [mbm] been there done that
19:03 [mbm] also not a fan of how adb bypasses the lock screen
19:22 dproldan eth_adb is normal adb?
19:25 dproldan I'm seeing "enabling adb" in this kernel log
19:59 * [mbm] just changed it to run adb directly on usb and to drop to a root shell on adb
20:00 CEnnis91 [mbm]: you do anything else interesting with the motoactv yet?
20:00 CEnnis91 im still waiting on ubuntu
20:00 [mbm] lol
20:01 [mbm] backtrack might be more interesting
20:01 CEnnis91 yes, but the kernel wont support it
20:01 CEnnis91 or w.e it is
20:01 [mbm] ?
20:02 CEnnis91 afaik you cant inject
20:02 [mbm] not unless you patch the kernel
20:02 CEnnis91 and im guessing you can do that? =P
20:03 [mbm] thinking about it
20:03 CEnnis91 isnt dragorn doing essentially the same thing?
20:03 CEnnis91 with kismet?
20:03 [mbm] he's using usb to an external wifi card
20:04 [mbm] or in some cases a custom built board
20:04 CEnnis91 oh, well instead of a full fledge iso on there
20:04 CEnnis91 why not just include the binaries for sniffing and injecting
20:04 [mbm] yep, that was the plan
20:05 [mbm] you were the one that wanted ubuntu
20:05 CEnnis91 oh okay cool
20:05 CEnnis91 i was joking =P
20:05 CEnnis91 going back to ur bionic days
20:05 CEnnis91 well
20:05 CEnnis91 they still exist
20:05 CEnnis91 so referencing ur bionic
20:09 CEnnis91 [mbm]: i still know very little about kernel modding, is it really as simple as adding in patches?
20:15 [mbm] probably need to completely rip out the existing driver
20:51 dproldan yes,  adb is running in my new MA via ethernet
20:51 dproldan C:\Users\Windows7>adb connect 192.168.16.2:11000
20:51 dproldan connected to 192.168.16.2:11000
20:51 dproldan C:\Users\Windows7>adb devices
20:51 dproldan List of devices attached
20:51 dproldan 192.168.16.2:11000      offline
21:28 dproldan irrelevant,  i guess
21:29 dproldan updating now
