03:37 blake i have a 16gb motoactv, looked on xda today for rooting the device
03:38 blake i rooted it before i got to find out about the differences between 8gb/16gb boot images
03:39 blake i can exchange my motoactv for a new, unrooted, stock device because i bought it through REI
03:42 blake let me know if i should get a new device, so i can help out
03:59 [mbm] haven't seen a stock 16g boot image to know what the difference is
04:00 [mbm] are you saying you broke yours?
04:02 blake no, i tried using the root tool
04:02 blake flashed a modified boot img, and rooted it
04:02 [mbm] then the reason for returning it would be?
04:03 blake well i can't load the CWM bootloader
04:03 blake and i saw on xda that some devs are looking for someone with a stock 16gb device
04:05 [mbm] no reason to rma a perfectly functional device because of that
04:06 blake why not
04:07 ds2 that is like RMA'ing a new laptop because you copied a file onto the hard drive
04:07 utkanos ^ do not do that
04:09 [mbm] so what happened when you tried cwm?
04:10 blake the stock bootloader
04:10 [mbm] this word you keep using, I do not think it means what you think it means
04:10 utkanos ^ :D
04:11 utkanos blake: can you get the stock recovery.log / last_log from the device you have?
04:12 [mbm] if somehow you installed cwm and then rebooted into the stock boot the install-recovery.sh script would kick in and replace cwm with the stock recovery
04:15 blake utkanos: where should i look for those files
04:16 utkanos in /cache/recovery/last_log
04:16 utkanos if you are using the stock recovery again
04:16 blake dir is empty
04:17 blake oh wait
04:18 blake i can't cd to it... permissions?
04:18 blake mount ..?
04:19 utkanos have you booted the stock recovery after you tried to flash cwm
04:20 blake yea, i think that's what i meant when i said bootloader
04:20 utkanos recovery is different than a bootloader
04:21 blake so i would have expected cwm to load when i started the device in recovery mode...
04:21 utkanos but what I'm asking is, have you booted the stock recovery by typing adb reboot recovery
04:21 blake start + power buttons
04:21 utkanos that is the bootloader
04:21 utkanos not recovery, there's no button combo to get into recovery
04:21 blake no
04:23 blake :)
04:23 [mbm] all the button combinations at bootup go into the bootloader with either fastboot or sbf mode; there is no hotkey to enter recovery at boot
04:23 ds2 side question - what is sbf mode?
04:24 blake ok thanks, didn't know
04:24 [mbm] (and despite the confusion, cwm is a recovery replaement, not a bootloader)
04:24 [mbm] ds2: old motorola protocol they used before fastboot
04:24 ds2 'k
04:25 ds2 does sbf lets you shoot your self more?
04:25 utkanos haha
04:25 [mbm] you can pretty much write off sbf mode as legacy crap, especially since we don't have the firmware files in sbf format to use with it
04:26 utkanos :)
04:26 ds2 'k
04:26 blake i don
04:31 blake so i'm gonna try flashing 5.6.0 rom now
04:31 [mbm] ds2: the only real advantage of sbf (and also why we can't easily produce our own sbf files) is that it begins by sending a ramloader
04:32 ds2 why can'
04:32 ds2 t we produce it?
04:32 ds2 it needs to be signed or?
05:05 blake joined #motoactv
05:12 [mbm] ds2: modified version of the bootloader; runs in ram
05:12 [mbm] normal bootloader doesn't have erase/flash commands in sbf mode
05:12 [mbm] those are only available in the ramloader
