01:22 CEnnis91 hmmm i should probably make this update.zip check for the proper device but there's no esay way
01:23 Quietlyawesome94 joined #motoactv
01:26 CEnnis91 heh, well i think i just found out why asserts fail in utkanos's recovery
01:27 CEnnis91 nothing gets defined from what i cansee
01:30 CEnnis91 yep i was right
01:31 CEnnis91 best i can realistically get is ro.hardware=mapphone_umts
01:31 CEnnis91 without mounting /system, but that wont help people who have fucked /systems
01:32 CEnnis91 [mbm]: how many moto devices will have ro.hardware=mapphone_umts
01:32 CEnnis91 all?
01:56 CEnnis91 360mb is as small as its gonna get
02:08 CEnnis91 holy fuck this thing is as hot as ive ever felt
02:16 [mbm] probably all
02:16 CEnnis91 well some type of check is better then no check
02:16 CEnnis91 testing the final release for the 16gb model
02:22 * Lord_Data perks up his ears
02:22 Lord_Data final release of what?
02:23 CEnnis91 Lord_Data: another set of stock images, for the 8gb / 16gb
02:23 CEnnis91 but using a different method
02:24 Lord_Data any significant changes/improvements over the current one?
02:24 CEnnis91 you can use rsd lite
02:24 CEnnis91 [mbm]: 6 minutes and anywhere from 10-20% battery drain
02:24 CEnnis91 (fxz)
02:24 CEnnis91 thats including uncompression
03:17 CEnnis91 fuck i forgot my 8gb preinstall image in my linux side
03:18 CEnnis91 i hope i can update without it
03:23 CEnnis91 god fucking damnit
03:23 CEnnis91 [mbm]: theres a 1.6.7 for the n8?
03:23 CEnnis91 i thought the latest was 1.6.6
03:24 CEnnis91 oh, looks like the 1.6.7 nukes the golf update
03:24 CEnnis91 https://rsddownload.motorola.com/download/MR6.7_SW_Upgrade_Release_Notes_MOTOACTV.pdf

03:39 CEnnis91 im making the version before that the stock image
03:39 CEnnis91 im guessing thats 5.6.12
03:40 CEnnis91 god i hate moto for their versioning
03:41 CEnnis91 [mbm]: this is essentially the final product if you wanna take a look http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5849675/motoactv/motoactv-16gb-release.zip

04:27 CEnnis91 dproldan: got the preinstall issue fixed
04:29 dproldan good,  how does it behave?
04:30 dproldan do the apks in /preinstall/app get installed?
04:30 dproldan do they take extra space in /data?
04:31 CEnnis91 no i believe everything still lies in preinstall
04:31 CEnnis91 im not sure if flash player is ever actually used tbh
04:31 CEnnis91 but i know it didnt change any functionality
04:31 CEnnis91 which is why it was never noticed
04:31 dproldan I don't think it's used,  it wasn't being installed,  that's for sure
04:31 CEnnis91 dproldan: the final size is 360mb
04:32 dproldan if we can fill it with useful things, no conplains  :-)
04:34 CEnnis91 i cant wait until these stock images are done now tbh
04:34 dproldan yo told the guy in the forum that he'd loose some functionality if he installs extra things,  that's not right anymore.  some of us are using ButtonSavior so we don't have to remap buttons
04:35 CEnnis91 yea i dont like the need for an app to fix the functionality
04:35 CEnnis91 how does it work thou
04:36 dproldan it's ok,  you can't tell the device has any extra things until you swipe on the screen in a certain way
04:36 CEnnis91 ....lol
04:36 CEnnis91 no thank you
04:36 CEnnis91 i will implement my method in time
04:36 dproldan well,  it's only left to right,  actually,  quite unobtrusive and easy
04:37 CEnnis91 i think my power+music power+start method is better
04:37 CEnnis91 plus
04:37 CEnnis91 with only 256mb of ram on the device
04:37 CEnnis91 you're running an unneeded process
04:38 CEnnis91 being a droid 1 user for over 2 years, i understand the issue of ram =)
04:38 CEnnis91 not saying that method is bad per say
04:38 CEnnis91 just has it's flaws
04:38 dproldan you think having to press to hard buttons is better than swyping on a touch screen?,  I don't think so
04:38 dproldan two
04:40 ds2 3.75 days and it is at 15% battery
04:40 dproldan I'm not going to make a video,  but you should try it.  Install ButtonSavior and use the settings I give in the forum.
04:40 * [mbm] will take a look at the fxz later
04:40 dproldan ds2: not bad
04:40 CEnnis91 dproldan: what's the ram usage?
04:41 CEnnis91 the ram usage is it's biggest flaw
04:41 CEnnis91 if it gets killed by running soemthing else
04:41 CEnnis91 its done
04:41 CEnnis91 the hard buttons wont get killed in lowmem
04:41 dproldan in my device,  at the moment,  118 used, 74 free
04:42 dproldan you think the BS programmer would let it be killed?
04:42 CEnnis91 you? no
04:42 CEnnis91 everyone else, yes
04:43 CEnnis91 oh
04:43 CEnnis91 misread
04:43 dproldan ds2: I've tried undervoltaging the stock speeds,  but I don't have anything to compare to would you like to try?
04:43 CEnnis91 dproldan: ive seen apps meant to stay in memory be killed still
04:44 ds2 dproldan: how are you doing it? mine is stock PM
04:44 CEnnis91 dproldan: ive even had apps with oom_adj = -17 be killed!
04:45 dproldan ds2: there's a overclock module that allows you to change voltages and speeds
04:45 ds2 i thought some of it is in sysfs too?
04:45 dproldan I've been able to overclock it ,  800 Mhz,  for example,  for example,  but I wasn't able to underclock,  only undervoltage
04:46 CEnnis91 dproldan: stable at 800?
04:46 dproldan yes,  a tiny bit snappier,  no difference in stability
04:46 CEnnis91 nice
04:46 CEnnis91 i said from the begining
04:46 CEnnis91 this device would be nice at 800
04:47 dproldan the good thing is it works at 800 with even a lower volatge than the stock 600 Mhz
04:47 CEnnis91 nice
04:47 CEnnis91 ill probably incorporate the module then
04:48 dproldan it's also unobtrusive,  you can't tell it's there
04:48 dproldan let me upload the right one
04:48 CEnnis91 yes i know
04:48 CEnnis91 ive dealt with overclock.ko before
04:49 CEnnis91 gonna be a little pain for people to play with the voltages and speeds
04:49 CEnnis91 especially on the go
04:49 CEnnis91 ugh i guess i shuold let this charge before i do anything else
04:49 dproldan no need to play with them,  use a file somewhere
04:50 CEnnis91 not every device is the same
04:50 CEnnis91 and come on
04:50 dproldan instructions here  http://code.google.com/p/milestone-overclock/wiki/KernelModule
04:50 CEnnis91 tell someone they can configure their overclock
04:50 CEnnis91 they're gonna try =P
04:50 dproldan heh
04:50 dproldan that's roght
04:50 dproldan right
04:51 CEnnis91 dproldan: oh can you check something for me
04:51 ds2 hmmm...those parts should be able to go down to 0Hz
04:51 CEnnis91 dproldan: settings > general > motoactv status - what's your software version?
04:52 CEnnis91 ds2: ummm what?
04:53 ds2 the OMAP processors should be able to clock down to 0...i.e.suspend
04:53 dproldan CEnnis91: MA 1.6.0 N8   I'm still using the 5.6.0 zip
04:53 CEnnis91 oh damn
04:53 CEnnis91 nvm then
04:53 dproldan ds2: this is the module http://www.multiupload.nl/E3DIPBH37V
04:53 dproldan rename to overclock.ko, push to /system/lib/modules/
04:53 CEnnis91 hmmm well this one still has the golf.apk
04:54 dproldan issue this from adb :  insmod /system/lib/modules/overclock.ko omap2_clk_init_cpufreq_table_addr=0xc0049150
04:54 ds2 does that match the stock kernel?
04:55 dproldan yes,  surprisingly
04:55 CEnnis91 omap2?
04:57 CEnnis91 god my upload sucks
04:57 CEnnis91 still uploading this thing to gdrive
05:20 [mbm] dproldan: you got the underclocking working?
05:21 dproldan nope
05:21 dproldan juts trying lower voltages
05:21 [mbm] ah
05:23 ds2 wait, shouldn't it be tied in with the governors?
05:24 dproldan the governors only tell when to change between the freqs, I think
05:24 ds2 but they also set the ranges
05:24 dproldan it's the table who says the freqs available
05:25 [mbm] should be tired to an opp except smartreflex
05:25 dproldan ok, after the isnmod,  you can try these two lines :
05:25 dproldan insmod /system/lib/modules/overclock.ko omap2_clk_init_cpufreq_table_addr=0xc0049150
05:25 dproldan echo "1 300000000 15" > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
05:25 dproldan echo "2 600000000 30" > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
05:26 dproldan 600Mhz at 20 seems to hang
05:28 dproldan these are the original mpu_opps
05:28 dproldan mpu_opps[2] rate=600000000 opp_id=2 vsel=48 sr_adjust_vsel=37
05:28 dproldan mpu_opps[1] rate=300000000 opp_id=1 vsel=33 sr_adjust_vsel=27
05:28 [mbm] CEnnis91: why does it contain individual /system files?
05:29 [mbm] ugh.
05:29 [mbm] CEnnis91: you know you can just have recovery write system.img to flash ...
06:00 [mbm] 345M -> 257M

06:23 JohnDoe_ CEnnis91 or MBM:  I am looking into trying to stop certain services from booting, like Coaching and Golf.  I dont and probably will never use them so I would like to control their init level.  I looked in init.rd but I do not see and Golf or Coaching there, would you be able to assist?
06:25 JohnDoe_ init.rc, typo
06:32 [mbm] doesn't work like that
06:34 JohnDoe_ I renamed Workout.apk, Coaching.apk, Golf.apk and Launcher2.apk: reboot seems to be fine and they are not started in services, more RAM
06:35 JohnDoe_ I dont or probably wont ever use these programs, they are just taking up room on the /
06:36 JohnDoe_ Free RAM in the 100s now instead of 60-80
06:36 dproldan joined #motoactv
06:37 JohnDoe_ I assume that I could rm the renamed APKs without system instability?
06:37 JohnDoe_ dproldan; whats up?
06:39 * [mbm] 'd suggest something more like pm disable com.motorola.motogolf
06:49 dproldan pm disable is permanent?  wil they stay disabled after a reboot?
06:49 JohnDoe_ mbm: thanks for the help, should I add the three 'pm disable' namely com.motorola.golf/workout/coaching to my init.rc or create a startup bash through locale?
06:49 JohnDoe_ good question dproldan
06:50 [mbm] dproldan: yep
06:50 dproldan nice
06:50 [mbm] no need to change init.rc or anything
06:50 JohnDoe_ so a one-time pm disable is all I need then... cool
06:50 JohnDoe_ done
06:53 dproldan cool,  just a reboot and the icons are gone too
06:54 JohnDoe_ dproldan: did you also rename the apks in question? Workout/Golf/Coaching?
06:55 dproldan nope,  but I'm disabling them now
06:55 dproldan I'm not worried about ram,  just to reduce the usused icons in the apps tray
06:57 dproldan this command lists the disabled things:
06:57 dproldan pm list packages -d
07:09 JohnDoe_ -d gives no results, it is not showing me the disabled packages...
07:10 dproldan # pm list packages -d
07:10 dproldan package:com.google.android.carhome
07:10 dproldan package:com.motorola.input.gkeyboard
07:10 dproldan package:com.google.android.latinimetutorial
07:10 dproldan package:com.motorola.motogolf
07:10 dproldan package:com.google.android.apps.books
07:11 dproldan you disable the packages,  not the apks.
07:11 dproldan do a 'pm list packages'
07:12 JohnDoe_ pm list packages works, just not the -d switch when listing
07:12 dproldan then 'pm disable com.motorola.motogolf'  for example
07:12 JohnDoe_ it says killed
07:12 JohnDoe_ just after I pm list packages -d and nada
07:13 dproldan you removed the apk?
07:13 dproldan you don't have to
07:13 JohnDoe_ just as long as it is disabled, no problemo
07:13 dproldan i guess :-)

07:46 JohnDoe_ New subject: I pushed ClearD's SystemUI, but I dont see anything different.  I know he is trying to add things to it, but WHERE is it?  I have Zeam Launcher
07:50 suunnittelija Hello, I just saw MotoACTV Root Tool Version 1.1.5 was released. I have 16gb model with latest MA 1.6.6 N16 firmware.
07:50 suunnittelija I know it's possible to root 16gb model, but I'm not sure abouth the method.
07:51 suunnittelija Can I use this Root Tool?

08:07 [mbm] really just comes down to reflashing a new boot.img
08:07 [mbm] and it's the same one on both the 8g and 16g
08:08 [mbm] the fact some people seem to require a button to do it for them just amazes me
08:11 christefano joined #motoactv
08:34 suunnittelija yes i saw that boot.img is same for 8g and 16g, but in the wiki it has not been clearly stated that this works for 16g too
08:35 suunnittelija just used version 1.1.5. to my 16gb model and everything went fine
08:37 [mbm] yeah, the wiki sucks
08:38 JohnDoe_ suunittelija: you could change the wiki to reflect that it is working for your model if you would like to contribute to it...
08:40 JohnDoe_ It is a collective knowledge thing...
08:40 suunnittelija yes i can
08:52 dproldan JohnDoe_: the change he did is to the notification pull-down,  try to pul it down in Zeam,  don't swype from outside the display,  just a bit inside it
08:59 dproldan suunnittelija: got your motoactv from the US or is it already in Finland?
09:01 suunnittelija it's US version
09:02 dproldan ok,  wondering when are they going to release it here,  it's only in the UK and some south american countries
09:21 JohnDoe_ Trying to pull down from the status bar but getting nothing.
09:25 dproldan it's a bit tricky  it's juts like a phone,  the status bar has to go down
09:26 dproldan put your finger in the top half of the display and swype down

13:11 CEnnis91 [mbm]: oh, recovery can take full .imgs for /system?

15:39 [mbm] CEnnis91: yep
15:39 [mbm] and preinstall
15:42 CEnnis91 why isnt this done in other updtae.zips then?
15:57 [mbm] because usually an update is just a handful of changes
15:58 [mbm] but since your update already contains a system.img the contents of system are redundant
16:38 CEnnis91 [mbm]: what about for like cyanogenmod?
16:39 CEnnis91 thats a full system of changes
18:52 christefano joined #motoactv
19:01 [mbm] CEnnis91: some devices have sig checks
19:01 CEnnis91 and that stops system.img flashing in recovery?
19:02 [mbm] depends
19:05 [mbm] on moto devices you have to be careful not to touch the signature, which is why they do stupid things like rm -rf instead of reformatting
19:08 [mbm] an interesting side effect is that since no ota or 3rd party updates ever change the sig, the sig remains at the last version flashed by fastboot or factory original
19:08 [mbm] and if you can match the sig to a particular fxz you know exactly what was flashed
19:15 CEnnis91 hmmm okay
19:16 CEnnis91 not sure i totally getall of that but ive really only seen the update.zips from the droid 1
19:18 [mbm] oh, well, the simpler version is that not everyone packs their files like I do
19:23 CEnnis91 hehe
19:23 CEnnis91 well that leads to another point
19:24 CEnnis91 im considering to use this format for every rom, rooted, possibly custom
19:24 CEnnis91 so it needs to work globally
19:28 dproldan joined #motoactv
20:06 [mbm] ...
20:08 dproldan sup
20:09 [mbm] not muh going on; was teaching CEnnis91 how to pack a file to be both a fastboot fxz and a recovery update.zip
20:09 CEnnis91 heh
20:10 dproldan sharing is good  ;-)
20:12 [mbm] probably could stuff a few other things in there as well
20:12 dproldan [mbm]: if you're bored and/or have the time.  Why don't you compile a low clock kernel?  hell my SGS2 goes as low as 200 Mhz
20:14 dproldan the battery savings could be serious
