00:07 Snoothy the wifi is pretty power hungry compared to the bt
00:07 Snoothy was it possible to get wifi from the phone through bt?
00:24 ds2 should be
00:24 ds2 either via DUN or PAN
00:39 Snoothy PDANet and FoxFi seems to support this
00:41 ds2 for the watch or for the phone?
00:42 Snoothy i want the watch to have my phones data connection
00:42 Snoothy it works with my Gnex and my xoom perfectly
00:43 ds2 but which device are you installing PDANet or FireFix?
00:43 Snoothy pdanet on both
00:44 ds2 oh like that
00:44 Snoothy FoxFi gives you bt DUN
00:44 Snoothy and it sets up a VPN connection between the two
00:44 ds2 should be possible to run DUN with some scripts
00:45 ds2 just need RFCOMM and pppd
00:45 Snoothy are those tools available out of the box?
00:46 ds2 *shrug* I loose track of which device has what
00:50 [mbm] Snoothy: my super secret wiki page?
00:50 * [mbm] guesses that secret is out
00:52 Snoothy too bad google indexed your super secret wiki page :P
00:53 [mbm] that's ok, google won't tell anyone
00:55 Snoothy but using bt DUN instead of wifi seems like a pretty good idea, seeing that wifi drains 5x more power than bt
00:55 Snoothy the only downside is the speed but i guess you won't need much wifi speed on the actv
01:06 Snoothy i also like dproldan's idea about using the actv as monitor for your phones camera - now we just need it done using bt only
01:07 Snoothy and it should be doable with only 1.1mbps

01:15 Snoothy ds2: i don't have rfcomm on my Gnex in the terminal
01:15 Snoothy but pppd is there
01:15 [mbm] the nctether app works but it's a pain because it just uses the first bluetooth device ith no option to change it
01:16 Snoothy first discovered?
01:16 Snoothy or listed
01:18 [mbm] seems to be first device ever paired with the motoactv
01:19 Snoothy what device do you have paired other than your phone?
01:23 [mbm] headphones, pc
01:23 Snoothy why pc?
01:24 [mbm] can route audio through the pc
01:24 [mbm] was also messing around with sending files
01:24 Snoothy o
01:27 CEnnis91 strangely enough no matter how many times i do that
01:27 CEnnis91 i always find it useless
01:27 CEnnis91 neat, but useless
01:29 [mbm] which?
01:30 ds2 is there really a ICS firmware for the actv now?
01:30 Snoothy nah, i misread
01:30 Snoothy there's ICS actv app for the phones
01:30 ds2 oh
01:31 CEnnis91 [mbm]: connecting over bt and routing audio
01:31 CEnnis91 i can never find a damn use for it that isnt simpler/faster by other means
01:31 Snoothy such as using headphones?
01:31 CEnnis91 yes
01:32 Snoothy :P
01:32 CEnnis91 but i was leaning more towards transfering files
01:33 Snoothy it would be nice for something like autosync
01:33 Snoothy if you dont want to use wifi
01:33 CEnnis91 but why wouldnt i want to use wifi?
01:33 CEnnis91 i guess if it was open
01:33 Snoothy drains 5x as much power, on the actv at least
01:34 CEnnis91 well
01:34 CEnnis91 you have to compare what it's doing
01:34 CEnnis91 have you tested uploading/downloading files on wifi vs transfering files on bt?
01:34 Snoothy i've only read the datasheet
01:35 Snoothy and wifi is ofc faster than bt
01:36 CEnnis91 and has greater range
01:36 Snoothy but then again, who wouldn't use the cable for large amounts of data?
01:36 CEnnis91 exactly
01:36 Snoothy the wireless stuff would be for small amounts of data
01:37 CEnnis91 you want flexibility? -- wifi, you want speed? -- cable, XXXX -- bluetooth
01:37 CEnnis91 ive yet to figure out what XXXX is
01:37 CEnnis91 to say you can?
01:37 Snoothy better battery?
01:37 CEnnis91 then just use the cable =P
01:37 Snoothy when you're out and just using your laptop
01:38 Snoothy then you won't be pulling out your cable all the time
01:38 CEnnis91 heh, if i have my laptop with me, i guarantee ill have at least 2 cables with me
01:38 Snoothy i stopped bringing my cable when i discovered adb wireless :P
01:39 CEnnis91 wifi isnt as abundant as i would like
01:39 CEnnis91 around by me
01:40 Snoothy the only place i don't have it is at the bus xD
01:40 Snoothy but some have it
01:42 Snoothy bt only wins if wifi is not an option or you want to save power
01:44 ds2 do you really need 24/7 connectivity on the actv?
01:45 Snoothy bt connectivity or internet con?
01:45 ds2 both
01:46 ds2 bt isn't that cheap powerwise :(
01:46 Snoothy yea.. but it should hold power for around 10h
01:46 ds2 ah, you are satisfied with 10h
01:47 Snoothy it just needs to last for a full day
01:48 ds2 i am trying to make it last a week
01:48 Snoothy so up to 16-18h would be more optimal
01:48 ds2 so far I get about 3-4ish days
01:48 Snoothy all connectivity disabled?
01:48 ds2 yep
01:48 Snoothy when do you charge your devices?
01:48 ds2 every 2-3 days
01:48 ds2 or ?
01:49 Snoothy you don't tug your gadgets in before going to bed? :P
01:49 ds2 i like my gadgets to be with me when I travel
01:49 ds2 so this is testing for actual use
01:50 Snoothy oh
01:50 ds2 smaller and lower power
01:51 ds2 I'd love to have a tiny fuel cell with microUSB charge ports
01:53 CEnnis91 [mbm]: are you around
01:54 Snoothy ds2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyNc-97ZFhM
01:54 ds2 Snoothy: what is that about? no flash here
01:54 [mbm] .
01:55 Snoothy a hydrogen fuel cell with a 5v usb output
01:55 CEnnis91 [mbm]: i have a 16gb partition on my laptop that isnt doing anything (ive been looking for a purpose)
01:55 Snoothy http://www.horizonfuelcell.com/store/minipak.htm
01:55 ds2 oh
01:56 CEnnis91 [mbm]: would it be useful to symlink that to my linux side and use it as a part of ccache for building anddroid?
01:56 ds2 nice
01:56 [mbm] CEnnis91: yep
01:56 CEnnis91 would i be able to get away with 50gb thou?
01:56 CEnnis91 total
01:57 CEnnis91 apparently JBQ uses 100gb, for what looked like GB
02:09 Quietlyawesome94 joined #motoactv
02:14 CEnnis91 [mbm]: how would the symlink work
02:14 CEnnis91 like if i... ln -s /media/Misc ~/android/cache ....would it just fill up the partition?
03:08 CEnnis91 building cmparts first build: real15m2.784s / user19m46.530s / sys1m2.872s
03:22 CEnnis91 2nd build with ccache: real10m17.855s / user13m6.369s / sys0m17.461s
03:23 CEnnis91 hmmm

18:31 gazong hi! anyone knows if the "Scosche myTREK Wireless Pulse Monitor" is compatible with the motoactv?
18:37 dproldan no idea
18:37 dproldan is it ANT?
18:40 gazong no bluetooth... can pair with Android 2.3.3 devices
18:42 dproldan I see,  the MotoACTV is running android 2.3.4,  it has bluetooth,  and you can install most apps
18:43 dproldan so,  even if it doesn't work with the stock motorola application,  it  could work with the one supplied by Scosche
18:44 gazong so the bluetooth can pair with anything? it's not modified by motorola?
18:46 dproldan it is modified by moto
18:46 dproldan it has paired with may devices I've tried
18:46 dproldan don't know about those sensors, I'm afraid
18:47 gazong do you know if it's only software side modified? perhaps installing a stock rom would change something?
18:47 dproldan sure,  it's all software
18:48 gazong ok then i'll ask on the xda forums
18:48 gazong thank you very much!
18:48 dproldan yep
