08:35 Tene_ masak: what Web stuff should I be working on?  I was mostly offline for a while for an RSI-related break.
08:35 Tene_ I'm mostly back now.
08:35 masak Tene_: great.
08:35 masak Tene_: I could actually use some help, at least on the design/thinking plane.
08:35 masak I feel slightly overwhelmed.
08:35 Tene_ Yeah?  I can do that.
08:36 masak \o/
08:36 masak ok.
08:36 masak here's where I am, and where I'm going.
08:36 masak I implemented a Lobster. see repo.
08:36 masak I want to get it running.
08:36 masak for that I need (1) some additional things in the Request and Response classes, surely.
08:36 masak (2) a web server.
08:37 masak mberends has kindly provided (2).
08:37 masak see HTTP:Daemon in perl6-examples.
08:37 masak unfortunately, it doesn't work right now...
08:37 masak I hope he can have it working soonish.
08:38 Tene_ is that the netcat one or the one using rakudo sockets?
08:38 masak Tene_: right now it's somewhere in between.
08:38 masak that's what's wrong with it, IIUC.
08:38 masak see backlog from this morning on #perl6.
08:38 Tene_ Ah.
08:38 Tene_ Yes, will look.
08:39 masak (1) scares me a little, because I don't see the whole picture yet.
08:39 masak could use some help with that.
08:40 masak I'd like to create, at least in my mind, a diagram connecting the actual web request with the final HTML output.
08:40 masak as soon as we get the lobster running, we can do a lot of cool demos fairly easily.
08:40 masak so it's actually a good time to prepare for that already.
08:41 masak I plan to generate SVG in Druid, for example. a game is a great demo.
08:42 masak after that, I want to look at shoving November on top of Web.pm.
08:42 masak there, I'm done. I think.
08:42 Tene_ think you could write a summary of your current thinking on the Request and Response classes?
08:42 moritz_ .oO( DoD, Developmment driven Development )
08:43 masak moritz_: :)
08:43 masak Tene: summary: I'm doing a straight port of all the parts I understand, hoping they'll suffice for running something minimal.
08:44 Tene ah, port from rack, right?
08:44 masak if you check out the Rack equivalents, you'll see striking similarities.
08:44 masak aye.
08:44 masak striking, I tell ya.
08:44 masak but the license to Rack permits that.
08:45 masak it's short and to the point: "here you go. append this license if you copy from us."
08:45 masak (paraphrased)
08:46 * moritz_ really likes the WTFPL
08:46 masak wow, this summary and the one in #perl6 is great material for the next Web.pm update blog post.
08:46 moritz_ you may do "what the fuck you want" with this code (in the original it's all upper case ;-)
08:46 masak now we only need to get the Lobster running.
08:54 masak Tene: another demo that becomes feasible when we're post-Lobster is the fetch-a-page-and-modify-it-on-the-fly idea.
08:54 masak I'd like to apply it to use.perl.org to make it less bad.
08:55 masak I've come up with a way to hack in images using that approach.
08:55 masak Ovid will be pleased. :)
09:49 masak Tene: oh, and do you have any tips on how to avoid RSI?
10:39 masak oh, oh. and one more thing: :)
10:39 masak (today, it seems, is the day of summaries)
10:40 masak viklund++ gave me a very nice use case to think about, sort of the "hello world" of a web-app-frontend-wrapped database.
10:42 masak a site where you can sign up for someone's wedding. it's basically a single form, but behind a login barrier.
10:42 masak this is a case where full MVC feels a little too ambitious.
10:42 masak and many of the elements in such an application are recurring.
10:42 masak would be nice to develop something explicitly targetted for such a use case.
