20:00 * rjbs is here.
20:01 Abigail Hello.
20:01 rjbs My phone didn't even go off!  But my laptop bleeped a lot.  But I remembered anyway.  So phew!
20:01 rjbs Hello!
20:01 Abigail ;-)
20:02 rjbs I did not publish an agenda, because when I went to write one, I found nothing to add that was not on last time's.
20:02 Abigail As I said in my email, I was not really unhappy last nights meeting got postponed.
20:02 * Abigail nods.
20:02 rjbs Good!  I felt really lousy about it.  Since you are not upset, and I will not feel weasily for offering excuses, I will give you one of the stupid things that happened:
20:02 Abigail There are a few tests on Windows failing.
20:02 rjbs My dad is flying to .uk today, and yesterday his AOL account was compromised and he started getting hundreds of bounce messages (not a joe job).
20:03 rjbs So he came over in a panic.  oy!
20:03 Abigail ;-)
20:03 rjbs Yes, so, win32 tests...
20:03 rjbs I was very unhappy to see a new set of Pod-Html failures from George G's smoker.
20:03 rjbs This, after getting it all working on my Win32 machine.  He's getting failures I had never seen before!
20:03 * Abigail nods.
20:03 rjbs I'm going to have to ask what's going on.  I'm guessing it's going to be related to something in the build environment.
20:04 rjbs I'd love to get it fixed before the 20th, but I have a hard time believing that will happen.
20:04 rjbs There's also t/fork.t, which needs expert attention.
20:05 rjbs Jan indicated he might have a look at it.  There was a very small amount of noise on the ticket yesterday, but I haven't seen any white knights riding in to solve it yet.
20:05 rjbs Are there other smoke failures than these that I'm not remembering?
20:05 Abigail I've no access to a Windows box (and if I had, I would have no idea what to do with it). And since the Pod Test seem to work on Unix, I'm not sure whether I can do anything.
20:05 Abigail No, I think that's it.
20:06 rjbs I *do* have Win32, but all the other Win32 people I've asked have no problems with this.  It's almost *certainly* going to be related to case mismatch on drive letters.
20:06 Abigail Wait, there's "./cpan/Archive-Extract/t/01_Archive-Extract.t" from Steve.
20:06 rjbs Hm!  What commit was that smoked on?
20:07 Abigail Automated smoke report for 5.15.8 patch 9705c32bcafe06aff1b40d0cb1bb0820ba56bc61
20:07 Abigail +v5.15.8-136-g9705c32
20:07 rjbs looking
20:07 Abigail It does say "Locally applied patches: uncommitted-changes".
20:07 rjbs Hm.  I have no idea!  I'll throw it on my list.
20:07 rjbs Eeech.
20:08 Abigail No idea whether that's related.
20:08 rjbs I wonder if that's a false positive.  That check used to be lousy, but I believe I fixed it about a month ago.
20:08 rjbs That's Steve Hay?
20:08 Abigail Yes.
20:08 rjbs okay, I put that on my todo
20:09 rjbs (I also put on a suggestion from Mithaldu in privmsg, to ask George G. if he can publish DIY instructions for building a Win32 smoker.)
20:09 rjbs All other platforms are seeming okay now?  I know Tux has a report about his HPUX build in File::Glob, but other than that..
20:10 Abigail Yeah, I think the only recent reports were Win32 platforms.
20:10 Abigail That is, fail reports.
20:10 rjbs Good... kinda.  It's probably the platform on which it'll be hardest to get fixes sorted out.  But oh well.
20:11 rjbs There are one or two other issues I'm really hoping to see addresed before 5.15.9, like the $/ thing, which TonyC has started on.
20:11 * Abigail nods.
20:11 rjbs Also, some things that Nick Clark has brought up -- but mostly I think we're mostly holding for fixes to the listed blockers.
20:12 rjbs (Also, Tom C. would like to get perlunicook into 5.16.0, and I'd like it to go through perlfaq.  We'll see how that goes.)
20:12 * Abigail nods.
20:12 rjbs I've seen you churning through the RMG steps.  I'm stoked that you've got the update-from-cpan script.  I'd pushed a few other people to put something like that together (as a checklist, rather than code, even)
20:13 rjbs That should be really really helpful for all the committers, not just the release engineers.
20:13 rjbs Anything go particularly lopsided / any steps in there make no sense or things not work?
20:13 Abigail Book wanted to include a "secret operators" POD, but wasn't sure he was going to finish it before Tuesday. But it will not be important either way.
20:14 rjbs Yeah, I think that will have to wait.
20:14 rjbs We need to address our "all documentation is one big pile of stuff" problem somehow.  I'm not eager to rush new docs into core until we do.
20:14 Abigail No. I may have been a bit too enthousiastic about upgrading the CPAN modules -- the wording in managers guide suggested I should.
20:14 rjbs Yeah, I realized that my email to p5p was at odds with the RMG after the fact.
20:15 Abigail I changed the wording, that it's most important for a BLEAD-FINAL release.
20:15 rjbs I'll be updating the RMG with some language about code freeze in the next period.
20:15 rjbs (I also realized that while my email was clear, it was not going to be sitting in front of your face like the handy-dandy RMG would be!  So I really do need to update that.)
20:16 Abigail I've started work on perl5159delta, which I want to have finished by Sunday evening.
20:16 rjbs I think all the updates that remain in place are good / safe.  I was a little worried by CPAN::Meta, but I think it's good.
20:16 rjbs Excellent.  Has there been much to delta?
20:16 rjbs Sprout used to do a good job of chasing commits-needing-deltas, but he's been less active lately.
20:16 Abigail I don't think so, but I haven't done much on it yet. But the list of commits isn't very long.
20:17 rjbs Great.  You'd get more sympathy at the boring task from me if I wasn't working on perl5160delta :)
20:17 Abigail ;-)
20:17 rjbs Looking at old business from last time, I see the Carp dot bug.  I think that the impact of that seems to have been felt.
20:17 rjbs That is, I think we're not going to get surprised by new failures.
20:18 rjbs (knock on wood)
20:18 Abigail I started using my account on dromedary. It's nice to do a configure/build/test cycle in less than 4 minutes, instead of 37.
20:18 rjbs Nice.  I meant to get into the habit of using it, but the night I started, dromedary died, and I haven't gotten back to it.
20:18 rjbs I can do a cycle in about 16 minutes, but 4 is still a huge improvement!  So, I'll get back to it!
20:19 rjbs The 5.16.0 meta bug is down to a handful, https://rt.perl.org/rt3//Public/Bug/Display.html?id=94978
20:19 rjbs I just reviewed them last night, and I think there are only a few things to deal with there, and nothing I want to press you for :)
20:19 Abigail I did need some time to find the outside name of dromedary; I'll put that in the release managers guide.
20:20 rjbs Great!  It's users.perl5.git.perl.org, right?
20:20 Abigail Right.
20:20 Abigail I had seen that name, and several references to dromedary, but I needed google to find Dennis email from 2009 linking the two.
20:20 rjbs I mailed p5p about the fork.t blocker last night.  Tonight I will mail about another one of them needing some attention.  Hopefully night by night we'll get those closed.
20:20 rjbs Yeah, I think I asked him on IRC and didn't think to make a better record. :(
20:21 rjbs Is there anything you need from me between now and the 20th?
20:21 Abigail Not that I can think of now.
20:22 rjbs Okay.  I should be pretty available on the 19th and 20th, US time, in case there are last minute difficulties.
20:22 rjbs I should mention that there is some very small chance of a 5.15.10, depending on the speed of bugfixing, but I'd like to avoid it.
20:23 rjbs I think we're looking pretty good for an April/May release, as planned.
20:23 rjbs Okay.  So all I have in my list is to talk to George G. about Win32 smoking (and I'll ask Steve Hay, et al. while I'm at it) and to look into that Archive-Extract failure.
20:23 rjbs I don't think I have anything to throw on your plate other than "the stuff in the RMG."
20:24 rjbs So, if you've got nothing more, I think we're done here, and that the next #onionsketch will be at a date to be negotiated between me (rjbs) and the next release engineer (rjbs).
20:24 Abigail I'm be talking about being a release manager on YAPC::NA.
20:24 Abigail s/'m/'ll/
20:26 rjbs Neat, I look forward to hearing. :)
20:27 rjbs Okay!  I am going to get back to the code mines and fix/create some bugs.  Talk to you again soon!
20:28 Abigail Bye.
