17:00 rjbs Hello!
17:00 steveh Hi
17:01 rjbs You've been keeping busy!  How's it been going?
17:01 steveh I think it's all going well. Modules and perldelta are all pretty much up to date, and the smoke is less black than before :-)
17:02 rjbs Yeah, it seemed like you've been having a very productive run.  I've been happy watching it!
17:02 steveh It's only really been looking at UPSTREAM=>cpan modules. I may or may not have time to look at blead/undef too...
17:03 steveh I see there are a couple of new cpan ones available, which I'll look at later -- B::Debug and Module::Metadata
17:03 rjbs Well, that's okay.  Florian can make another go through updating next time!  In fact, I should've asked him to show up today... but so be it.  We'll catch up at the next one.
17:03 steveh I tried out Sock 2.005 too, but had a problem with the Makefile.PL on that, so it may have to wait
17:03 rjbs Yeah, the B::Debug will, I think, unblock sprout from landing some pad changes.
17:03 steveh (Oops, that's Socket, not Sock!)
17:03 rjbs Right.
17:04 rjbs How did you do your updates?  Mostly by hand, mostly with the script in Porting, or something else?
17:04 steveh I've not tried the script because of all the Unixy tools required, and fear over whether it would work
17:04 jgamble joined #onionsketch
17:04 rjbs yeah
17:04 steveh I have a really nice diff/merge tool on Windows called Araxis Merge which is a great help, so I'm happy doing it by hand
17:05 steveh We have a couple of UPSTREAM=>cpan modules still customized in blead: Text-Tabs+Wrap, Text-Balanced and Test-Harness
17:05 steveh I requested new CPAN releases of them, but they haven't appeared yet
17:05 rjbs Any thoughts on what's required to ditch the customization?
17:06 rjbs Test-Harness should be easy-ish to push through.  Its maintainers are pretty active.  Someone take over Balanced since Damian?
17:06 steveh I think they're mostly simple changes to test scripts that can be merged upstream without controversy
17:06 rjbs Hm.  ADAMK...
17:07 steveh Yeah, Adam, that's right.
17:07 rjbs Well, I'll see if we can't get a release cut.  DMANURA is also a maintainer, but appears never to have done one.
17:07 rjbs Adam isn't very active these days; his new gig isn't Perl, etc.
17:07 rjbs Anyway, cool.  I've made a note to follow up with those dists.
17:07 steveh Ah, right. The Text-Tabs maintainer did reply, actually, to ask where the updates are, so I'm hopefuly on that one in due course
17:07 rjbs groovy
17:08 * rjbs has a quick look at the delta.
17:08 * rjbs is curious as to what, if anything, computed goto labels will break.
17:09 rjbs Cool.  All the changes are ones I remember seeing and feeling not too scared about. :-)
17:09 rjbs You end up with any other loose ends?  Things needing to be picked up next month or figured out before Monday?
17:10 steveh I'm going to take a look at a VC6 patch which Jan posted the other day. It shouldn't be a problem if I make it VC6-specific, as Nicholas suggested.
17:10 steveh Otherwise, just planning on keeping modules and delta up to date and watching the smoke
17:11 rjbs Great.  I didn't do that review of the git bits of the RMG for the release branch, but I will do that tonight...
17:12 steveh Cool, was gonna ask you about that :-)
17:12 rjbs or, as Siri transcribed it, "Pearlgate instructions"
17:13 steveh Nice!
17:13 rjbs Well, I think that's all I have.  I really was very pleased to see how much you got done this month, especially since I've been sort of getting nothing done and feeling swamped.  I pretended to be active by proxy. ;)
17:14 rjbs On Monday, I will be on vacation in NYC, so I probably won't be online to test any test tarballs, but I doubt you'll have any problem getting test results anyway!
17:14 rjbs Next month, Florian (rafl) will be doing 5.17.4, and hopefully the three of us can catch up in early-ish September.
17:14 rjbs Until then, I think you're all set for making a release!  You have an epigraph yet? :)
17:14 steveh No problem, it's been fun! I'll try to keep up with things after the release; I don't plan on defecting anywhere else :-)
17:15 rjbs Phew!
17:15 steveh I'm sure plenty of others will be around for testing, and look forward to another onionsketch with Florian too next time.
17:15 rjbs Then I'll also look forward to hitting you up for another release in 6-12 months. :)
17:15 steveh I do have an epigraph in the pipeline, yes... ;-)
17:15 rjbs Thanks very much for your work!  Now, go enjoy some lunch or work or whatever it is you enjoy!
17:16 rjbs I'm going to have a hot dog, myself.
17:17 steveh Sure, I'll certainly be up for another release. Not quite time to relax over this one yet, though -- the RMG says that comes *after* the release :-)
17:17 rjbs :)
