19:59 Corion Shall we start?
20:01 rjbs Yes!
20:02 rjbs Sorry, I got caught up in tracking something else, which will have to do without me for a few.
20:02 Corion Shouldn't be too long IMO
20:02 Corion I've gone through the preflight checklist, and found that my credentials still work
20:02 rjbs How's the release going?  Done much prep?
20:02 rjbs Cool.  I saw you ask about some weirdness on the boxes.
20:03 Corion ssh (and thus, git) from dromedary to camel is currently broken, so I've done with the (stale) git mirror on dromedary
20:03 Corion But that'll be fixed by Thursday I hope
20:03 rjbs Got a backup plan if not?
20:03 Corion I can do things locally on a Debian box too, but I'd prefer dromedary with its CPAN mirror :)
20:03 rjbs Right.
20:04 Corion I'll try again to do most of the stuff on Windows, but some tools really want `diff` or other external programs
20:04 rjbs anything else of interest turn in in preflight?
20:04 Corion Net::Ping fails tests on Win32, due to "Socket::inet_ntop not implemented on this architecture"
20:04 Corion I'm not sure what to do about it, whether to patch the tests so they skip, or whether to revert the whole import.
20:05 rjbs That's odd, I thought it had been imported, in part, to improve Win32 operation.
20:05 rjbs Bring it up on the list?
20:05 rjbs I did see that black smoke, an had wondered about it
20:05 Corion Hmm - yeah, I'll do that.
20:06 Corion But other than that, I think I'm all set. I'll try a dry-run with the current state of the repo from home and from dromedary.
20:06 Corion I also found a quote. The most important thing :)
20:06 rjbs :)
20:07 rjbs Aha, I see Seveas has found the problem.  Nice.
20:07 Corion Yep - comforting.
20:07 rjbs If we can't sort out Net::Ping, revert it.  Do check for why it was imported, I believe it was mentioned...
20:07 Corion Yeah, I'll look at it and the history first.
20:08 rjbs http://perl5.git.perl.org/perl.git/commit/1bd59f2c8b61c620
20:08 rjbs Upgrade to Net::Ping 2.40.  This should silence much of the black
20:08 rjbs smoke seen on Windows and Cygwin coming from Net::Ping.
20:08 rjbs so clearly steve_p thought it would help rather than hurt!
20:09 Corion Yeah, I'll look at this somewhat closer.
20:09 rjbs Apart from that, anything of interest?
20:09 rjbs I pushed a few changes that shouldn't hurt, I think.
20:09 rjbs I think we'll see some more VOS changes land.
20:09 Corion No, tests are clean on Win32, and on dromedary.
20:10 Corion I can't test those :) But the usual Porting/* tests etc. might still break :)
20:10 Corion Oh. There were some modules out of date with CPAN, but I'd prefer not to import them now.
20:10 rjbs Agreed.
20:11 Corion I'm just wondering about CPAN.pm 2.0 (Trial) in core... When will it be updated on CPAN?
20:11 Corion I prefer CPAN.pm breakage now over breakage with 5.18 :)
20:12 rjbs I agree, I'll talk to xdg and klapperl again.  I think I'd asked whether we could get a stable release on CPAN of CPAN before 5.18.0 and it wasn't clear that I got a yes/no.
20:13 rjbs added that to my todo
20:13 rjbs Know when on the 21st you're likely to be rolling the release?
20:13 rjbs If i'm around, I can pre-test some tarballs on a few platforms.
20:14 Corion I'll get home at 16:00 (GMT), so I'll start at 17:00 GMT or something like that.
20:14 Corion That'd be cool! I can test Debian (32bit), Windows (32bit), all x86. My ARM box will likely take the night to build/test, so that's a bit too long.
20:15 rjbs Okay, I'll be at my desk and "around."
20:15 rjbs I have OS X, Solaris, Linux easily available.
20:15 rjbs (Compiling Win32 on my VM takes way way too long.)
20:15 Corion I see that Net::Ping has a 2.41 on CPAN - maybe there is some difference between the two. I'll investigate that.
20:15 rjbs Cool.  Anything else I can do for you or answer before we call it a day?
20:15 Corion That should cover the "major" OSes.
20:15 Corion No, I think I'm all set.
20:16 Corion If anything comes up, I'll send a mail or weep on #p5p :)
20:16 rjbs Okay!  Thanks much, and best of luck!
20:16 Corion Thanks!
20:16 trs left #onionsketch
20:17 Corion Ah. It seems that Net::Ping 2.41 is specifically a fix release for the error I see. http://search.cpan.org/diff?from=Net-Ping-2.40&to=Net-Ping-2.41
20:18 rjbs yay!
20:18 Corion I'll try a test sync on Windows, and see if that works out for me (and tests still pass)
20:36 * BinGOs hadn't brought Net::Ping in as Mr. Peters seems to be doing that himself.
20:42 Corion Yeah... I'll ping Steve Peters directly :)
20:42 Corion ... and I'm eliminating some more shell-isms from Porting/sync-with-cpan while I'm at it
20:42 Corion HTTP::Tiny is a good-enough replacement for wget, and we have utils/ptar as `tar` replacement in core :)
