20:13 rjbs Oops!
20:13 rjbs Abigail: So sorry I'm late.
20:14 rjbs Abigail: I set up a very clear reminder on my phone and computer to alert me 15 min before, because I always forget.
20:14 rjbs And then I left my phone on my desk while having a stand-up.
20:14 rjbs So, once again, I find a new way to overcome myself.
20:14 rjbs Abigail: Anyway, if you're here, I don't suspect this will take too long.
20:17 Abigail Test
20:17 Abigail Yeah!
20:17 rjbs Sigh.  Sorry!
20:17 Abigail No problem. I'm still here ;-)
20:17 rjbs So!  First order of business!
20:18 Topic for #onionsketch is now The State of the Onion | 5.19.7 due on December 20
20:18 rjbs If you release on Dec 18, no one will look at you funny, I imagine.  Happy birthday, Perl.
20:18 Abigail Yeah, Dec 20. That will also my last day of working this year.
20:19 Abigail I considered doing that, but Dec 18 is a Wednesday, and I'll be in the office then. Don't have to time to it on the 18th :(
20:19 rjbs Excellent!  Then you have to grow a beard and deliver toys?
20:19 Abigail Nope. I go hunting for the guy in red and steal his toys.
20:19 rjbs You need this guy's hat: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinterklaas
20:19 rjbs We recently watched this film: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rare_Exports — relevant to your plans.
20:20 Abigail Yeah. But he just left the country.
20:20 rjbs So, you've done this at least twice before.
20:20 rjbs I think it's been a little while, but not too much has changed.
20:20 * Abigail nod. I did one release before, about a year and a half ago.
20:21 rjbs 5.15.9, I see — I thought there was one since that.  Oh well!
20:21 Abigail And then I left p5p for a while. But I'm back, and catching up with the emails.
20:21 rjbs p5p has been pretty good for a while now, with just a few rare exceptions
20:21 Abigail Nah, I was sceduled to do one, and then became insanely busy at work and to cancel. :(
20:22 rjbs Aha!  Right.  Well, fortunately Perl survived. :)
20:22 rjbs So, you've got a commit bit and a release bit on PAUSE, and RT access.
20:22 rjbs So all the setup is done, so I can't forget to do it.  Great.
20:22 Abigail It'd be a sad state of affairs if Perl's survival depended on me.
20:22 Abigail Yes.
20:23 Abigail I should still have my access on camel/dromedary. I'll check this weekend, and if for some reason I don't, I know who to hunt down.
20:23 rjbs :)
20:23 rjbs 5.19.7, I think, is unlikely to include any major changes that will cause surprise catastrophe.
20:24 rjbs It is possible that I'll get a new experimental warning committed, though, which may break some of CPAN.  If that happens, though, the plan is definitely to release as normal.
20:24 Abigail Is there anything that needs special attention? Any specific modules that need to be upgraded/synced with the newest version?
20:25 rjbs I don't think so.  Updates have been happening as usual, promptly.  Pod-Checker needs to land, but that needs a bunch of work to fix the known problems file.  If the fates are on my side, I will get that done in early January.
20:25 rjbs There might be a new Time-Piece between now and the 20th to help with WinCE building.
20:26 rjbs I'll try to get that into core ASAP after the release.  If BinGOs doesn't do it while I'm not looking, I'll let you know. :)
20:26 Abigail Ok.
20:27 rjbs Have you gone through the release manager's guide?  It's changed somewhat since 5.15
20:27 Abigail Not yet, but I've sceduled that for this weekend.
20:27 Abigail Any major changes?
20:28 rjbs Hm.  Mostly it's more things being automated.  corelist updating is a good bit less awful now.
20:28 rjbs I'm not sure I can't think of anything likelier to now cause you trouble.
20:29 rjbs Monday, the 16th, I am very likely to release 5.18.2.  I will try to update the corelist and perlhist immediately, or possibly on Tuesday.
20:29 Abigail I'll go through it this weekend, and if there's anything I think may cause an issue, I'll contact you as soon as possible.
20:29 rjbs ...but you may want to double check that I've imported that data.  If it isn't in 5.19.7, it's not the end of the world, though.
20:29 rjbs Great.
20:30 rjbs I was about to say smoke has been good, but I see that HP-UX has gone all red.
20:30 rjbs Gosh, some time ago.  I wonder how I missed this.
20:30 rjbs I'll ask Tux about it.
20:30 rjbs It shouldn't block the release, anyway, but as we get closer to spring, failing platforms are, of course, much worse.
20:30 Abigail Yes.
20:31 rjbs I don't think I have anything else.  I think it should be a nice boring release.
20:31 rjbs Probably January will be the boringest.  Maybe I'll do that one myself. ;)
20:31 rjbs Anything else I can do-for or answer-for you?
20:32 Abigail I remember from last time, the majority of the time was spend really understanding the release process, and figuring the various tools. And I spend some time automating some stuff. But that's all things I shouldn't have to do now.
20:32 rjbs There's probably still some stuff to automate.  You will be owed a coke by future releasers. :)
20:32 rjbs but there's definitely less
20:33 Abigail Can't think of anything else to ask. And if I do, I know how to contact you.
20:33 rjbs (xdg and I have both expressed a desire to see the corelist tool rewritten to make it much easier to automate; too much perl-generation atm)
20:33 rjbs Yes you do!
20:33 rjbs Okay, great.  Thanks very much, and sorry again about my late arrival.
20:33 rjbs Good luck, and I look forward to upgrading my perl!
20:33 Abigail That's ok, I had no plans going anywhere.
20:34 Abigail BTW, I had a nice dinner with MJD yesterday. If it wasn't for your email on Tuesday, I had not known he was in Amsterdam.
20:34 rjbs Oh, I am very pleased to hear it!
20:34 rjbs I look forward to hearing his account of the whole trip.
20:35 rjbs He said he'd had the (great) idea to rent a bike and cycle around to see what he could see.
20:35 Abigail ;-)
20:35 rjbs I imagine that could be very nice.
20:35 Abigail Yeah, he did. He also rented a hotel room for 2 hours to get some sleep ;-)
20:35 rjbs Wow, it's up to 10°C there this week?  Lovely!
20:36 rjbs around -5°C here :(
20:37 Abigail 10C? Didn't feel that way. We had sub-zero temperatures during the night, and it was slightly colder than is usual for this time of the year. Should get slightly warmer next week though.
20:38 Abigail But it's certainly warmer than in the US, and we haven't had any snow.
20:38 Abigail They did have snow today in Egypt of all places. Enough snow to build snowmen.
20:38 rjbs Our trip to the brewery (~80 miles) was canceled on Sunday because of weather, and its postponed date of *this* Sunday will likely be canceled again.
20:38 rjbs Wow!
20:39 rjbs not Egypt, Pennsylvania, right?  that's just down the road from me...
20:39 Abigail No, Egypt, the desert state. The news showed some camels in the snow.
20:39 rjbs Camels do very well in the snow in the Gobi. :)
20:39 rjbs different camels, though...
20:40 rjbs Okay, back to work for me! Thanks for your time!
20:40 Abigail Have a good weekend!
