14:46 Topic for #onionsketch is now The State of the Onion | 5.19.10 due on March 20th

15:00 rjbs Good morning or afternoon as the case may be.
15:08 arc and a good appropriate-part-of-day to you too
15:08 arc sorry, got slightly sidetracked there
15:24 rjbs Sorry, so did I!
15:24 rjbs next time just "rjbs: " me
15:25 arc will do; sorry
15:25 rjbs while waiting for you I started reading overnight exception reports at $Work and got caught up in one
15:25 rjbs Okay, so!
15:25 rjbs You've done this before, so you've got all the permissions and so on.  Good.
15:25 arc yes indeed
15:26 rjbs Gosh, it's been over a year!
15:26 rjbs hard to believe
15:26 arc yeah, likewise
15:26 rjbs I was going to say that not much was likely to have changed since then.... and that's actually still likely true.
15:26 rjbs there have been /some/ improvements, though
15:26 rjbs begun having a look over the RMG again?
15:27 arc yes, and i've made a note to read the diffs since last time
15:27 rjbs cool; the main thing *I* remember changing is the perldelta updater for module changes
15:27 rjbs probably there are some other things I've forgotten
15:28 rjbs Your release should the "full code freeze" before the release of 5.20.
15:28 rjbs In other words, nobody should be changing anything after 5.19.10 other than to fix documentation, build, or other blockers.
15:28 rjbs (that's why we have branches!)
15:28 rjbs so either that means that everybody is already feeling frozen and sanguine with the state of things…
15:28 rjbs …or like they want to cram in the last scary change before the date
15:28 arc … or i get lots of last-minute changes!
15:29 rjbs right-o
15:29 arc i also note that the QAH is very shortly before the release, and i suspect that may mean an uptick in commit rate
15:29 rjbs so keep an eye on the commits; last-minute changes are okay, but we don't want something really crazy going in that just blossoms into a dark horse blocker at the last minute
15:29 arc yep, noted
15:29 rjbs it may; I think it's likely that any such changes will be to toolchain libraries
15:30 rjbs Actually, I must say, I'm curious to see what comes out of this QAH.
15:31 rjbs I've begun working on the tasks for 5.21.0 and 5.22.0, too.  These meta-tickets might be useful targets for new tickets coming in.
15:32 arc i've seen the relevant meta tickets go past
15:32 rjbs I've also got a number of tasks I should add to that list... I'll name now the one I can think of off hand: update the "platforms on the chopping block" list
15:32 rjbs Oh, and I'm hoping that this month we get the "remove NeXT support" patch applied as promised.
15:32 arc i'm also hoping that, having made some time for p5p work this month, i may get chance to look at the 5.20.0 blocker list
15:32 arc (code deletion)++
15:32 rjbs great!
15:33 rjbs I think that realistically we're looking at March and early April being the time of identifying all the blockers that aren't yet on the list, so I'm not going to be too surprised if the weekly listing grows a bit before it shrinks. :(
15:33 rjbs Also needed, I think, is a checklist of platforms on which to confirm blead works before final release.
15:33 arc sad but likely true
15:34 rjbs We don't have smokers on everything we want to support.
15:34 arc that's a good idea
15:34 arc win32, linux, mac, *bsd, solaris, vms, hpux, aix; others?
15:35 rjbs hm, updated https://www.rememberthemilk.com/home/rjbs/21878244/ but not sure that's properly visible outside my login
15:35 rjbs that's a good start, I think it hits everything I'd think off off-hand
15:35 rjbs cygwin
15:36 arc that RTM page seems to hang saying "initializing…" for me
15:36 rjbs same here; odd; I'll write their support later.
15:36 rjbs anyway, nothing new but what I've just said and "Get nick to release extutils::constant"
15:36 rjbs z/OS. :)
15:37 arc ah, yes, z/OS — how could i forget?!
15:37 rjbs catamount.
15:37 rjbs anyway, great.
15:37 rjbs Do you have any questions, concerns, whatevers to get me to respond to?:)
15:38 arc nope, i don't think i'm blocked on anything
15:38 arc i still need to find an epigraph, but that can't really be delegated :-)
15:38 arc i also plan to work on perldelta throughout the month, rather than leaving it till the last few days
15:38 arc (my biggest mistake last time)
15:39 rjbs Good plan.
15:39 rjbs You can try the delta tool in Porting.
15:39 rjbs Some people seem to find it helpful.
15:39 arc i look forward to trying it!
15:39 rjbs I do what Tony does: just keep track of through what commit I've reviewed.
15:39 arc yeah, that's what i did last time
15:39 rjbs Okay.  I will now go back to classifying exception reports!
15:39 arc i find GitX is a pretty good ui for that sort of thing
15:39 arc have fun!
15:40 rjbs Let me know if anything weird comes up, and otherwise I will talk to you again no later than today +6 weeks 23 hours.
15:40 rjbs I used gitx for that in the past, but might use tig next time.
15:40 arc 6 weeks? i thought we'd arranged an onionsketch for the 19th
15:40 rjbs errr, I meant 13 days.
15:40 rjbs the  buttons are right next to each other
15:41 arc :-)
