00:28 rjbs Hello!  With you in one minute.
00:30 rjbs Okay!
00:31 rjbs pcm: I had to finish fetching a party member from the hospital in Earthbound.  You know how it is...
00:32 rjbs Perhaps you are doing the same yourself now!
00:32 pcm Ph Earthbound, yep know how that is
00:32 pcm Trying to figure out irc on my phone.  Assume anything that doesn't make sense is a typo - like ph should be oh
00:33 rjbs Heh, okay.
00:33 rjbs <pcm> Also, it's set to russian keyboard.
00:33 rjbs So, you are the first first timer since... only June, so hopefully I remember everything we need to do.
00:34 rjbs but because I slacked, the window to get everything done is not quite as wide as it should be, but I'll start on that myself tonight
00:34 rjbs Things to do include:
00:34 rjbs * get you access to the repo
00:34 rjbs For that, I need you to send me a pubkey.
00:34 rjbs Can I just use the one on your github?
00:34 rjbs I see three keys on that account.
00:34 pcm Yep, that's sane
00:35 rjbs (I have this great little command that takes a gh username and gives you their pubkeys!  So useful!)
00:35 rjbs Okay.
00:35 pcm Ah.  New laptop, old laptop, and mac mini
00:35 rjbs Also will need to get you set up with the bit in PAUSE that lets you get a new release of Perl semi-indexed.
00:35 pcm That seems quite handy :-)
00:35 rjbs Now that I think of it, I should look into why that's needed at all for dev releases.  Note to self has been made!
00:36 rjbs Finally, RT access.  I *think* I can set that up myself.  If not, it won't be a problem.
00:37 rjbs Your release will be 5.21.3 -- there is no blockers ticket yet.
00:37 rjbs I will make that tonight, and I will add to the RMG (Release Manager's Guide) that it's your job to make the new one when you finish yup.
00:37 rjbs (Also, to transfer over any blockers that didn't get sorted in .3)
00:37 rjbs Have you given the RMG much of a go-over yet?
00:38 pcm Not recently, but I had looked at it 6 months or so ago
00:39 pcm Should have done that *before* the first #onionsketch!
00:39 rjbs It hasn't changed much, but you should give it a look.  Almost all of the steps can be dry-run, which I suggest doing sometime.
00:39 rjbs pcm: It was originally the custom to ask "the .3 person" to come to the second .2 onionsketch, and the .2 person to come to the first .3
00:39 rjbs I should get back to that.
00:40 rjbs It stopped after a few highly incompatible time zones.
00:40 pcm K, will do tonight or tomorrow night
00:40 rjbs The #1 thing to do, I think, is get familiar with the RMG and if anything looks confusing:
00:40 rjbs 1. try locally
00:40 rjbs 2. ask me / anybody
00:41 pcm I did read the timeline for it afterwards; don't remember why I didn't join
00:41 rjbs It's all pretty easy stuff, but you don't want to get all your questions on the 20th!
00:41 pcm Hehe yeah :-). Or on your vacation (enjoy, btw)
00:42 rjbs Thanks!
00:42 rjbs Here are other things to do:
00:42 rjbs * keep an eye on smoke reports; this is a good place: http://perl.develop-help.com/
00:42 rjbs if things suddenly go red, see if you can tell why, or raise the issue;  this is rare and usually "self-corrects"
00:43 rjbs * keep an eye on incoming tickets; anything "blead breaks cpan" should go onto the 5.21.3 blocker
00:44 rjbs and use your judgement on other tickets; if it's a regression in blead, it goes in the blocker list
00:44 rjbs A really rough rule of thumb is probably: if it's not just a longstanding problem, but something new and problematic, put it on the ticket.
00:45 rjbs The 5.21.3 meta-ticket is: https://rt.perl.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=122499
00:45 rjbs Do you have an account on rt.perl.org?
00:45 pcm Yes, with my gmail address
00:46 pcm I'd opened a few tickets with that anyway, including by web
00:47 rjbs What I need is your bitcard username.  I'm trying to find it now, if there is one.
00:47 rjbs IT's what it says when it says "Logged in as ..." at the top of the site.
00:47 pcm Checking
00:49 rjbs It looks to me like you do not have one, but I may be wrong.  If you can't verify that you have one, sign up for a bitcard account, use it to log into rt.perl.org, and let me know the username when it works (at your (not too far-off) leisure).
00:51 pcm K
00:51 rjbs (Let me know if you find an answer or give up on looking for now. (Since you're on your phone.))
00:52 rjbs ANYWAY!
00:52 rjbs so I'd said
00:52 rjbs * smokes
00:52 rjbs * new tickets
00:52 rjbs * review RMG
00:52 rjbs * consider dry-runs
00:53 rjbs ...and that's it.
00:53 rjbs This concludes your mission briefing.
00:53 rjbs Is there anything I can tell you or do for you?
00:54 pcm Nope.  I'm watching commits with an eye towards perldrlta already
00:54 rjbs Oh, and on that topic, there are at least two schools of thought on the delta:
00:54 rjbs 1. use the deltatool in Porting
00:54 pcm Just got into rt, but its mobile interface; trying to find username
00:54 rjbs 2. don't; just keep track of where you've delta-ed through
00:55 rjbs I tend toward #2, but it takes all kinds.  :)
00:55 pcm Confirmed: pcm
00:55 rjbs Okay!  Good to know.
00:55 rjbs I wonder why search didn't find that.  I'm not a skilled RT hustler.
00:55 rjbs Okay.  Then I believe our work here is done.  I will cc you on a couple emails tonight.
00:55 rjbs Oh:
00:55 pcm 2 looks better to me, but I'll see where I stand after I've played with the tool :-)
00:56 rjbs I am assuming you will want "pcm" as your git username, and "Peter Martini" as account realname
00:56 rjbs username is your unix account name on perl5.git.perl.org
00:56 rjbs Correct or no?
00:57 pcm Yep, that's fine with me.  I go by whichever combo is free for that system
00:57 rjbs Cool.  Okay, then I release you to enjoy the rest of your Saturday night, and will talk to you later!
00:57 pcm Awesome, enjoy your weekend and vacation
00:57 rjbs will do!
