17:58 Topic for #onionsketch is now The State of the Onion | 5.21.4 due on September 20th
17:58 rjbs Back in a minute, and then ready.
17:59 steveh Ok, I'm ready any time now.
18:01 rjbs Okay!
18:01 rjbs Sorry, I spent the last 15 minutes feverishly debugging a billing problem, and then really needed to step away for a moment.
18:01 rjbs I am back.  How's it going?
18:01 rjbs You are doing ALL THE RELEASING!
18:01 steveh Ok, I think. I've been on vacation for a week, but have just about caught up on most p5p email, and I don't see any major dramas
18:02 steveh Yeah, 5.20.1 is looking good too :-)
18:02 rjbs vacation++ !
18:02 rjbs Yeah, so far things are puttering along quietly, apart from all of jhi's "break all the platforms" FP work. :-)
18:03 steveh Haha. Yes, I saw a Windows breakage a short while ago, but that looks fixed now.
18:03 rjbs 5.20.1 is turning out to be a hell of a release.  You're being a real hero. :)
18:03 steveh And the test-smokers are generally looking good too.
18:04 rjbs (meanwhile, 5.18.3 is tiny and I've really let it languish, but I will do RC1 the day after you do 5.20.1 final! it's just waiting in the wings
18:04 rjbs )
18:04 steveh Well, RC1's been out around a fortnight now, with only one real issue that's needed an RC2, so I'm hopeful that the final release can go next week
18:04 rjbs Cool.  I saw 1-2 "pick doc fixes" lately, but they all seemed like they could either slip in or be delayed.
18:05 rjbs One was getopt.  Maybe there was just that.
18:05 steveh Yeah, I'm sure there are a lot of minor things that could go in, but I'm leaving them until 5.20.2 now
18:05 steveh I see the RC2 as like a maint version of RC1 with even stricter rules on what can go in!
18:05 rjbs Good.  Nice to get the important stuff go out.
18:05 rjbs Same here.  I'd fix a typo, but that's about it. :)
18:05 rjbs So, 5.20.1 -- great.
18:06 rjbs 5.21.4 -- I think we agree that for the most part, it's not seeming too scary.
18:06 steveh Indeed, looks like business as usual so far at least
18:06 rjbs I think my last few days of commit reading have not been with a sufficently suspicious eye, but there's a decent amount of activity among the likely reviewers going on.  So I'm not too concerned.
18:07 rjbs Okay.  Have you got an epigraph? :)
18:07 steveh I have for 5.20.1, but need to have a think for 5.21.4!
18:07 rjbs Your RC epigraphs have inspired me for 5.18.3, because of how I kepe misidentifying them.  We'll see whether I can find just what I want, though.
18:08 rjbs Okay.  Maybe it's just because I'm a bit tired, but I don't think I have anything else to check in with you about...
18:08 rjbs You've done this before, you know the drill.  We both think the release looks like it's on the rails.
18:08 steveh I don't think I have any particular questions either. Just a matter of watching the commits and the smokes, and getting perldelta into shape early since there's so much going on!
18:09 rjbs and if Jarkko starts making -Inf stringify to -∞, we can sort that out before our next meeting on next Friday
18:09 rjbs :)
18:09 steveh I see some committers have done some perldelta work already, though, which is always a great help :-)
18:09 rjbs ah, perldelta.
18:09 rjbs Yes, FC may change a lot of code, but it's darn good at deltaing, too.
18:10 rjbs Okay.  By now the cron jobs I was fixing before we began should have run again, so I will go check on them.  I dismiss you to go in peace, to love and serve the perl.
18:10 rjbs Thanks very much for your time!  I *almost* feel bad about having a meeting where so little needs to be said, but better safe... :)
18:11 steveh Thank you, and good luck with 5.18.3. I would just say to wait a few days after 5.20.1, actually, to let Module::CoreList settle down...
18:11 rjbs May do.  CoreList was the sole sticking point.
18:11 rjbs Getting it converted to a purely data-driven format would be a boon.
18:11 steveh It's a nightmare with maint releases, and there are also plans to change the $VERSION numbering to something date-based too
18:12 rjbs Yup.  I'm not bumping the version to the 5.x thing for that release.  I tried and it was a complete mess.
18:12 rjbs It's the reason it wasn't released in July, really.
18:12 steveh I think there will always be some messing around merging info about one perl release into another, whatever the $VERSIONs are, though... :-/
18:13 rjbs I'm not sure I agree, but will scruple to make a strong claim until I write some code. :)
18:14 steveh Ok, well I think I have it all in shape for 5.20.1 anyway, and blead releases aren't generally too bad, so I wish you well with 5.18.3 :-)
18:14 rjbs thanks much! good luck to you, too
18:14 steveh See you on 19th :-)
