19:02 sawyer o/
19:02 rjbs ahoyhoy
19:02 rjbs today has been cuh-razy so far
19:02 rjbs but I  bet this will be a nice calm oasis of "everything's jake" in the middle of it!
19:02 rjbs how's it going?
19:02 sawyer pretty good
19:02 sawyer i have some updates on my status
19:03 rjbs okay!
19:03 sawyer so, i don't have an epigraph yet - i'll get right on that
19:03 sawyer i've been through almost every single commit
19:03 rjbs :)
19:04 sawyer (i actually wrote a vim thingie that from a list of commits with F3 you can expand to the full commit message - really helps me review them quickly)
19:04 sawyer i also contacted khw and craig a. berry about some - that was a good experience :)
19:04 sawyer i have a list of the remaining commits which are basically "it seems like these might require a perldelta update, but i need to verify with the resepcted author"
19:04 rjbs Cool.
19:05 sawyer that list is here -> http://pastebin.com/SBN9DRqC
19:05 sawyer so tonight i will be sending emails along saying "hey, do these commits need to be added to perldelta? how would you phrase it?"
19:05 sawyer i can also send that to perl5-porters list, but perhaps i should contact the authors first
19:06 sawyer i have a local branch "release-5.23.8", rebased to blead, but had trouble pushing it
19:06 rjbs nice short list; I imagine a good number of those you can summarize somehow if needed :)
19:06 sawyer yes, sir
19:06 rjbs what kind of trouble?
19:06 sawyer at the end of the day, if i don't have the updates, i'll add it myself - no worries
19:06 rjbs cool
19:06 sawyer i'm not sure, possibly permission, git <-> ssh ain't always clear
19:06 sawyer but i'll pick it up with dennis in person tomorrow
19:07 rjbs great
19:07 sawyer i might have some misconfiguration locally, who knows
19:07 rjbs If you're not worried, I'm not worried.
19:07 sawyer but i'll have the same computer with me and at worse, we'll debug it on the spot
19:07 rjbs Being able to corner Dennis is useful.
19:07 sawyer yeah, dennis is a "let's fix it right now" kind of guy, and always has time for me and my complaints :)
19:07 * sawyer is very unworried :P
19:07 rjbs Great.
19:08 sawyer i have one question and small gripe
19:08 rjbs Okay, go ahead
19:08 sawyer (relating)
19:08 sawyer the smoke tests on platforms aren't connected, so you don't know if a test suddenly succeeded or not or is sustaining, you basically need to go through all the report history manually and match it against the smoker and hope you're right
19:09 sawyer which leads me to the question: what's going on with HP/UX and Solaris
19:09 sawyer i know perl works on them, but they're getting a ton of failed tests which *seem* (see gripe, i'm not really sure i'm right) like they've been failing for a while now
19:09 rjbs can you expand on "Aren't connected"?
19:10 sawyer (oh, and dave added that there's a windows consistent smoke failure since october 14th)
19:10 sawyer if you see a failing test, that might mean "uh oh, this started breaking", but you don't know until you check previous reports
19:10 sawyer so you check yesterday, then the day before
19:10 sawyer because you don't know if it's the same smoker, you don't know if this is a new thing or just two different failures
19:11 rjbs Right.
19:11 rjbs Okay, so.
19:11 sawyer there isn't "this failed report is now a success report - then we fixed it!", but more of "there's a success", then you reach back and see it was a failure before, so you realize "oh, it's now working, but before it wasn't"
19:12 rjbs Tux and Abe have been working on the smoke testing system at QAH for six or seven years now.  I'm really not sure what the deal is with where it is at.  Is it using any kind of client identifier?  Is there more data stored to show what you want to see but we don't know?  Maybe.
19:12 rjbs Can you produce a short "this would be useful to have: ____" for p5p and I'll make sure Tux comments?
19:13 sawyer sure
19:13 rjbs Great.  Beyond that: what's up with Solaris and HPUX?  I'm not sure there either.  I believe Solaris is fine, I usually do a builds on it.
19:13 rjbs I actually don't remember seeing a lot of Solaris fails!  I'll have to re-review.
19:14 rjbs You don't worry about them for now, and I'll make sure we sort out their status before RC0.
19:14 sawyer yeah i'm assumning i'm enough away from both ends of the release to not worry about it
19:14 rjbs +1
19:14 sawyer the windows, however, i am concerned about
19:14 sawyer but it's been raised as a blocker for 5.24
19:14 sawyer i will just make sure it is in the ticket and not just mentioned on the list
19:15 rjbs Okay!
19:15 sawyer i think that's about it
19:16 sawyer is there anything you want to double check with me?
19:16 rjbs I don't think so.  I have to say, I'm really scattered today, as it's my last day before travel and my brain is like woah.
19:16 rjbs but I think everything seems okay, and I take over after you until landing
19:17 rjbs so I know that any further problems are 100% mine to deal with
19:17 rjbs so I am not going to feel bad about missing something right now
19:18 sawyer great
19:18 sawyer when are you landing?
19:18 sawyer i'd like to do the release earlier than later during the day this time, last time i was just scrambling like mad
19:18 rjbs about... 23:00 Friday, your time, I think.
19:18 sawyer i wouldn't mind timing it with you being up, but i also don't want to stress you on being up
19:20 sawyer tonight i am: 1. emailing the respected authors asking for information on the commits, 2. perlgrinding and perlgrinding and perlgrinding some more, 3. try to pick an epigraph, 4. bump version numbers, update INSTALL, etc. (all steps up to the release)
19:22 sawyer tomorrow i will 1. fix the branch push with dennis, 2. rebase on blead and push the branch, 3. perlgrinding, 4. really pick an epigraph, 5. dry run for the release
19:22 rjbs looks good
19:22 sawyer alrighty
19:22 rjbs My Saturday is going to be a disaster of me trying to stay awake until kinda bedtime.  I might be online, but will be incoherent. :)
19:23 sawyer don't worry about it
19:23 sawyer but letting you know, i'm probably going to start the release either in my morning or my noon
19:26 rjbs sounds good
19:26 rjbs I'll tweet when I land, anyway. :)
19:26 rjbs DM or SMS me if you need anything.
19:26 rjbs hopefully one of those will work
19:27 sawyer great, thanks
19:27 sawyer and enjoy the travel
19:27 sawyer my suggestion - audiobook
19:28 sawyer also, crocheting :P
19:29 rjbs thanks! :)
19:29 rjbs I plan to play a LOT of Necrodancer.
19:29 sawyer :)
19:39 sawyer alright gotta do this thing called "shower"
19:39 sawyer laters!
