17:06 sbrooks9 after the web policy agent is installed and configured, you shouldn't be able to see any tomcat pages, correct?
17:07 MegaMatt depends on how it’s configured
17:08 MegaMatt but no, I don’t think that’s true anyhow
17:08 sbrooks9 I'm using the configue instructions listed in the getting-started-pdf for openam 11.0.0
17:08 MegaMatt The web policy agent just makes sure you are authenticated and authorized to before you access a given url, is my understanding
17:08 MegaMatt So why wouldn’t you be able to see tomcat pages?
17:09 sbrooks9 ". Browse to http://www.example.com:8000 to attempt to access the Apache "It
17:09 sbrooks9 works!" page.
17:09 sbrooks9 At this point, the policy agent intercepts your request for the page. Your
17:09 sbrooks9 browser does not return a cookie indicating an OpenAM session, so the policy
17:09 sbrooks9 agent redirects you to OpenAM to authenticate."
17:09 MegaMatt right
17:10 MegaMatt What’s that to do with “tomcat pages” though?
17:10 sbrooks9 mm.. I guess that are different.
17:11 sbrooks9 they*
17:11 MegaMatt What is the “tomcat page” anyhow? You mean a page on the OpenAM server itself?
17:11 MegaMatt because www.example.com is an apache server
17:11 sbrooks9 the "it works!" tomcat got installed successfully ect
17:11 sbrooks9 page
17:11 MegaMatt That page is on the OpenAM server itself, you mean - right?
17:12 MegaMatt The http://openam.example.com:8080 page for example
17:12 MegaMatt that’s not www.example.com ;)
17:12 sbrooks9 example:8080/ takes me to the tomcat page .. example:8080/openam takes me to the openam page
17:12 aldaris there is Apache tomcat and Apache
17:12 aldaris on Apache you install a web policy agent, on Apache Tomcat you install a Java EE agent
17:13 sbrooks9 from the directions, it seems like I should always get redirected to openam page
17:13 sbrooks9 oh! Thank you!
17:13 sbrooks9 you sir should write these guides lol
17:13 MegaMatt He does.
17:13 MegaMatt Heh
17:13 aldaris Apache is a web server that runs PHP/Rails/CGI most of the times
17:14 aldaris Tomcat is a Java EE container running Java EE applications
17:14 aldaris please note that the solution isn't that you install a Java EE agent on your Tomcat that hosts OpenAM :)
17:14 aldaris instead you should try to access the Apache instance (which doesn't run the OpenAM app)
17:15 sbrooks9 ah.. yea, that's having issues at the moment.
17:16 MegaMatt What’s having issues? Installing the J2ee agent on the tomcat that OpenAM is running in? As Aldaris said - don’t do that.
17:17 sbrooks9 Never mind, it didn't start because I didn't use sudo. Now that I have it running, what do you mean by access it?
17:19 sbrooks9 If I use example.com, I see the apache page still
17:19 MegaMatt If you go to www.example.com , you should only see the apache page if you have a session already
17:19 aldaris are you logged into OpenAM?
17:19 MegaMatt Try clearing your cookies and accessing again, it should send you to the openam auth page — after you get a session in OpenAM it won’t show up anymore
17:20 aldaris if you hit a nonexistent resource, like www.example.com/foobarxy
17:20 aldaris on the 404 page you should see the agent amongst the modules
17:20 MegaMatt ^ neat trick
17:21 aldaris MegaMatt: I think it's also included in response headers
17:21 sbrooks9 seriously? It was a cookie issue :p
17:22 MegaMatt Not an issue, that’s the point of the product
17:22 MegaMatt You sign in once, and that’s it
17:22 sbrooks9 I just meant that I was no longer seeing the apache or tom cat page
17:23 sbrooks9 but thank you again, both of you :)
