08:39 abyss aldaris1: I found that openam 13 support only data storage for mysql but no config storage. This is no sense because I still need opendj to keep openam configuration;)
09:06 abyss or I something misunderstand?
09:06 aldaris the configuration store needs to be a directory server
09:06 aldaris but you can use the embedded OpenDJ instance for that
09:07 aldaris storing users in embedded is ok as long as the number of accounts is reasonably low
09:07 abyss aldaris: yes, but then I haven't got replication so failover as well?
09:07 aldaris with embedded you have as many DJ instances as AM instances
09:09 abyss yes, but they can't replicate? Or you mean I should configure each AM instance without replication but in this case it can make differences between AMs configurations?
09:09 asyd morning
09:09 abyss ... ehhh. Are you able to undertand what I meant?;) Becuase I wrote it in weak english:/
09:09 abyss asyd: hello
09:10 aldaris AM sets up replication between embedded DJ
09:10 aldaris *magic*
09:10 abyss aldaris: whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?
09:10 abyss I thought replication between embedded DJ is impossible;)
09:10 aldaris well, wrong ;)
09:10 abyss fu*$&*%k ;)
09:12 abyss so probably all things with replication I did is no sense because I did it because I needed replication ;)
09:13 abyss BTW: opendj replication and openam stack is super easy - thank you, without your help probably it would take much more time
09:16 abyss but how it works (replication with embedded opendj). I just add server (site) to configuration -> servers and sites and then embedded opendj see each other?
09:20 aldaris no
09:20 aldaris replication is setup when you add a server to an existing deployment
09:20 aldaris so at the time of the initial configuration
09:21 abyss but it replicate only config store or data store as well?
09:23 aldaris when using embedded DJ to store users as well, the base DN will be the same as the configuration store's, hence the data will be replicated, yes
09:24 abyss aldaris: ok, I get it:) Thank you. So now it makes sense to have opendj for config and mysql for data store :)
09:25 abyss hmmm I configured replication with opendj (external) now I thinking if I shouldn't move to mysql because I don't understand opendj - for example I'd like to drop data and configuration from opendj but I don't know how;) For mysql I will just do truncate for tables;)
09:29 aldaris use bin/control-panel to simplify your life
09:30 abyss :) Ok. Thank you for hint:)
09:30 aldaris if you don't have GUI, then you probably want to install apache directory studio
09:30 abyss So you suggest that I rather should stay with opendj?;)
09:31 aldaris I'm an FR employee, what would you expect? :)
09:31 abyss do you know why exactly mysql is not recommended to production?
09:31 abyss aldaris: hahahahah :)
09:31 aldaris the data store implementation for databases is not finished, and has some bugs
09:32 aldaris there are other limitations like lack of persistent search support, that makes it difficult to update OpenAM's caches upon user data changes
09:33 abyss aldaris: one way or another, setting up openam + opendj + haproxy is super easy. With your help I did it in 1 hour. Now we have to make tests if everything works :) Thank you.
09:34 abyss aldaris: ok, I will pass this information to my supervisor and we will try to stay with opendj. Thank you.
09:35 aldaris just saying: migrating the data from data base to directory is not a simple task, and I'm not sure if it will have the end result that you are looking for
09:36 aldaris in a past life I've been using postgresql and opendj at the same time to host data about users, so there was a lot of data duplication
09:36 abyss aldaris: btw: may I repay somehow to you? ;)
09:37 aldaris the end result after several years was that OpenDJ was dropped and now only postgres is used as an authoritative source
09:37 aldaris balo can tell you all about it, if you are curious :)
09:39 abyss aldaris: errr, you just saying now that openDJ was dropped and you're using postgres?;) You're saying me that after that you said you don't recommend database on production?;p I don't get it;)
09:40 aldaris all I'm saying is that if your data is tightly coupled with SQL you will find it difficult to move away from it. You really need to think and plan whether you want to store your user data in a directory server, and how would you deal with data deduplication
09:44 abyss aldaris: oh ok, as far as I know (I'm not a developer of our web app;)) sql database and openam/ opendj only support each other (and both have the same data:/). I'm not sure how it works and why they used two storages to keep data about users... But openam and mysql are separte data - generally it's not my problem how they solved this;)
