04:39 cube_ hi there
04:41 cube_ does OF is for me even if my programming background includes only PHP?
04:44 cube_ or do you recommend me to learn processing instead?

15:28 admsyn anyone have experience with the hog widget DMX controller?
15:30 admsyn and more specifically is there any hope of making it do things w/ OSX?
15:36 workergnome Never played with that—I've used the DMXKing/Enttec ones on OSX
15:39 admsyn yeah :/ I've only got a hog widget onsite and the only Enttec retailer in "toronto" is way out of the city
15:47 workergnome Can't help you there—but let me know if you figure it out
15:53 admsyn workergnome: so with the DMXKing / Enttec ones did you actually do a serial connection and send bytes etc?
15:54 admsyn or just use some show control software
15:54 workergnome I was using a ruby library to manage the serial connection
15:55 admsyn alright
15:55 admsyn that's encouraging at least, assuming that means DMX devices tend to have fairly simple serial protocols
15:56 workergnome take a look at https://github.com/heisters/rdmx

15:57 admsyn workergnome: thanks!
16:00 * admsyn is having one of those one-thing-after-another installs
16:01 workergnome I know the feeling.

19:53 joshuajnoble hey has anybody worked with the Kinect depth image with the programmable renderer? I'm trying to draw it at GL_R8 and it's not working :/
19:55 bilderbuchi joined #openframeworks
19:59 bilderbuchi tgfrerer you there?
20:02 tgfrerer hey christoph!
20:04 tgfrerer bilderbuchi: ping
20:05 bilderbuchi hey.
20:05 tgfrerer heyhey
20:05 bilderbuchi just trying to see if I can get cpp11 example to run on linux
20:05 bilderbuchi git is acting up though
20:06 tgfrerer oh damn - something wrong at my end?
20:08 bilderbuchi idk yet... line ending changes are driving me craaazy and i dont know why
20:08 bilderbuchi it's the gitattributes file I fear
20:08 tgfrerer oh, that's weird- i did a clean fork on github, theb pulled on os x
20:09 tgfrerer somehing i can do?
20:09 tgfrerer soret iphone keyboard
20:09 tgfrerer sorry
20:09 bilderbuchi nope
20:10 bilderbuchi the example is in the cpp11-example branch, right?
20:10 tgfrerer yes, under graphics
20:10 tgfrerer and there is a more unit- testy one in all branches, under devapps if i rememer correctly
20:10 bilderbuchi I thought apps/devapps?
20:11 bilderbuchi ah ic
20:11 tgfrerer =)
20:11 joshuajnoble hey tim, while you're on, do you know how to get the programmable renderer to draw a GL_R8 texture? do I need to write a custom shader for that?
20:12 tgfrerer curious to hear if std::thread works on linux =)
20:12 joshuajnoble OpenGL 2.0 renderer is fine GL_LUMINANCE, but that's gone in 3.2
20:13 bilderbuchi currently making, let's see if only adding the cflag arturo mentioned is sufficient
20:13 tgfrerer hey joshua - i was going to wriye that grayscale tectures are deprecated in programmable gl (which tehy are) but you seem to be using the right ones
20:14 joshuajnoble I've got: "depthTex.allocate(depthFormat.dwWidth, depthFormat.dwHeight, GL_R8); depthTex.setRGToRGBASwizzles(true);" but no love
20:14 tgfrerer joshuanoble: yes - one thing tou cold do would be to look into the stock ahaders provided in programmable gl renderer - terr should be a provision fr grayscale textures
20:15 joshuajnoble i'll peek in there and see what I can figure out. thx!
20:15 tgfrerer sorry pn my phine at them momebt - so bad typindg an everything from memory
20:15 joshuajnoble ha! no worries.
20:18 bilderbuchi ah, have to set the c++11 flag for OF core, too. :-(
20:18 bilderbuchi again...
20:22 bilderbuchi ok, no dice:
20:23 bilderbuchi src/ofApp.cpp: In member function ‘virtual void ofApp::setup()’:

20:23 bilderbuchi make: *** [Release] Error 2
20:23 tgfrerer try kicking out assert  - that's somethimes eclipsed by another assert macro
20:23 tgfrerer i get that in linux all the time
20:25 bilderbuchi ah, #include <cassert> was missing. how did this compile without that?

20:26 bilderbuchi does that look ok?
20:26 bilderbuchi a unit test should report if it succeeded ;-)
20:26 tgfrerer that does look ace!
20:26 bilderbuchi off to the graphics example
20:26 tgfrerer interesting that the threads seem to have couted in sequence
20:26 tgfrerer on os x they garble the text
20:27 tgfrerer seems ofLognotice is more like atomic on linux
20:27 bilderbuchi atoms for peace (of mind)! :D
20:27 bilderbuchi is that the lutfilterexample-cpp11 you mean?
20:27 tgfrerer yes: and std::atomic
20:27 tgfrerer yes, that's the example-
20:28 tgfrerer should run 60fps realtime on a current machine
20:28 tgfrerer compared to 14 fps before =)
20:28 bilderbuchi my lappy is 4 years old ;-)
20:29 bilderbuchi but nvidia quadro...
20:29 bilderbuchi let's see
20:29 tgfrerer it's cpu threads,not gpu =P
20:29 tgfrerer how many cores?
20:29 bilderbuchi darn it
20:29 bilderbuchi 2
20:29 bilderbuchi centrino 2 :P

20:30 bilderbuchi no idea what to do with that.. ^^
20:31 bilderbuchi argh my mind is poisoned by python... mental code parser is broken :P
20:31 tgfrerer hm. interesting.
20:31 tgfrerer which version of gcc / libstdc++?
20:31 tgfrerer let's just make sure that version is c++11 feature complete.
20:33 bilderbuchi gcc (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.7.3-1ubuntu1) 4.7.3
20:33 bilderbuchi libtstdc++: apparently i got both 4.7.3 and 4.6.4 installed
20:33 bilderbuchi ah, the former is for gcc 4.6 which is also installed
20:34 tgfrerer and what does g++ --version say?
20:34 bilderbuchi g++ (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.7.3-1ubuntu1) 4.7.3
20:35 tgfrerer let's check if that is c++11 feature complete...
20:35 bilderbuchi lg von der birgit btw
20:35 bilderbuchi :-)
20:35 tgfrerer oh wie schön! und auch, viele bussis =)
20:37 tgfrerer seems there are a couple of things that came only just recently with g+++ 4.8: magnet:?xt=urn:btih:5b4e481a89665f0410c26323d45cd2660cf1d411&dn=CINEMA+4D+R14+%28MAC%29+with+Serials&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.publicbt.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.i stole.it%3A6969&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.ccc.de%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Fopen.demonii.com%3A1337
20:38 tgfrerer auwerh
20:38 tgfrerer forget that=)
20:38 bilderbuchi tstststs
20:38 bilderbuchi :D
20:38 bilderbuchi bussis zurück
20:39 tgfrerer that's the right link: gcc.gnu.org/projects/cxx0x.html
20:39 tgfrerer =))
20:41 bilderbuchi probably this feature?
20:41 bilderbuchi Inheriting constructors N2540 GCC 4.8
20:41 tgfrerer that could be.
20:42 tgfrerer i've got g++ 4.8.1 on my current linux machine - i'll give it a shot as soon as i get internet fast enough to download the repo.
20:47 bilderbuchi alright. I'm not gonna hunt down a PPA for that if that's ok... i'll get 4.8 in a couple week with the next ubuntu release
20:47 tgfrerer =)
20:48 bilderbuchi btw, if you want, try out https://github.com/bilderbuchi/ofStateManager
20:48 bilderbuchi maybe on non-critical projects, although nothing should be able to happen..
20:49 bilderbuchi I put some work into it recently, regression test suite, currently fixing a couple things left
20:50 tgfrerer nice one!
20:50 tgfrerer that's where you got bitten by python, huh =)?
20:52 bilderbuchi actually, with matplotlib to reproducibly create plots for my phd thesis, but yes, that too
20:52 bilderbuchi I fear I'll never go back to c++ very often
20:52 bilderbuchi :-)
20:54 bilderbuchi btw, who is "rc1" whom you granted access to the cpp1 org?
20:54 bilderbuchi *cpp11
20:55 tgfrerer it's ross cairns - he's quite enthusiastic about c++11 too, and has the most geeky github name i can think of.
20:55 bilderbuchi ah
20:58 bilderbuchi yeah ofStateManager is one of those things I want to finish before "the great divide"
20:59 tgfrerer ahaha better be quick =)
20:59 bilderbuchi It's looking good, if people don't find any bugs :P
20:59 bilderbuchi the other is the automated code style checker... but that one's a bit more tedious, and therefore postponed in the face of other things...
20:59 bilderbuchi we shall see how I will fare. :P
21:00 bilderbuchi anyway, g2g now. are you gonna be in vienna again some time?
21:01 tgfrerer towards christmas i think - would love to catch up, then...
21:02 tgfrerer auf bald! und sag birgit alles liebe von mir!
21:02 bilderbuchi zurück!
21:02 bilderbuchi passt, mach ma das
21:03 bilderbuchi cu
