01:51 mikewesthad Does anyone know why setting ofSetBackgroundAuto(false) causes ofImage.saveImage() to only capture a black image?

18:27 fossterer So far I couldn't find an equivalent to ofxEasyCam::place() in 'ofEasyCam'.... Any ideas?
18:29 admsyn what did ofxEasyCam::place() do?
18:29 admsyn set it's location?
18:31 fossterer It allowed viewing a picture from various angles
18:31 admsyn so..yes?
18:32 admsyn well, what are you trying to achieve?
18:33 fossterer Here it is.. An app that constructs a 3d projection by combining multiple individual pictures..
18:34 fossterer And I expect place() to let me change the 'viewing angle' of projection
18:34 admsyn oh ok, I think you'll probably want the regular ofCamera in that case
18:34 admsyn the easy cam is really just a straighforward way of getting a controllable camera into a 3d space (i.e. to get a look at a scene you're working on)
18:35 admsyn but you give up a fair amount of control in exchange for the easy-ness
18:36 fossterer Yeah.. 'giving up' might occur... But isn't ofEasyCam going to help in this scenario?
18:37 fossterer "straighforward way of getting a controllable camera into a 3d space... to get a look at a scene you're working on"
18:37 fossterer That's what I want!!
18:38 jacres admsyn: were you at inst-int by chance?
18:38 admsyn but you said you're making an app that constructs a 3d projection, which is quite a bit more complex
18:38 admsyn jacres: yeah! I didn't know you were going
18:38 jacres ah man!
18:38 admsyn sorry I missed you :(
18:38 jacres ha, next time ;)
18:39 jacres someone sent me a link about a conversation they had with your regarding accelerate framework
18:39 admsyn fossterer: are you trying to make a stereographic projection?
18:39 jacres (cory)
18:39 admsyn fossterer: i.e. for an oculus rift or something like that?
18:39 jacres and realized he was talking with you
18:39 admsyn jacres: yeah I remember that :)
18:39 fossterer Not really.. rest of the app can look into this.. It is pretty much in place..
18:39 fossterer But
18:39 fossterer tthat ran in 007 by using place() which I can't use in 008
18:41 admsyn fossterer: can you explain very specifically what the function call to place() did for you? (i.e. the camera was at 300, 200 and I used place to move it to 400, 500 or whatever)
18:41 LadyK Hopefully next time at Inst-Int, it will be longer to afford a dinner oF meetup. It's nice to meet folks IRL
18:41 LadyK ;)
18:41 admsyn ah right LadyK was there too :) as was superFluid but I didn't run into him
18:42 fossterer As I see the 007 version working on a different system.. "I can use mouse to rotate the projection by dragging "
18:42 admsyn ok, that's what easyCam does on it's own now
18:42 admsyn but do you want more control?
18:43 fossterer But now that I ported it to 008.. everything else is fine but "I can't just drag that way to change viewing angles"
18:43 fossterer "does on its own now"??
18:43 admsyn fossterer: yeah my understanding of ofEasyCam is that you get the clicky draggy stuff for free
18:44 * admsyn hasn't used it in forever
18:45 fossterer Poor me.. I just used ofEasuCam::begin() assuming it is the actual entry point when as I complained earlier, the ControlPanel and all got upside down
18:45 admsyn oh ok, did you get that fixed?
18:56 fossterer Ohhh.. From your clues I figured that a forgotten ofEasyCam:: end() is the cause of havoc!!
18:57 fossterer It is working now...
18:57 admsyn haha
18:57 admsyn so you were drawing the gui inside cam begin / end?
18:57 admsyn makes sense that that'd flip the gui
18:57 admsyn cool
18:59 vade joined #openframeworks
19:01 fossterer yeah.. Isn't that a proper way?... That end() was probably irritating all this time..
19:01 fossterer Thank you @admsyn
19:01 admsyn no problem
19:01 admsyn the idea is that you draw into the camera between begin/end, and then you can layer new stuff on top that is totally independant (i.e. the gui)
19:02 admsyn I find it can be helpful to put long bits of code between a begin/end pair inside a new scope
19:03 admsyn like this ->  http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=GiEDVvJy
19:03 admsyn e.g. for shaders and push/pop matrix and other stuff that follows the pattern
19:06 moofy shaders weird my brain

23:56 pizthewiz admsyn: would there be any benefit to have OFPlugin hip to OF_PATH?
23:57 admsyn yeah I was thinking that for sure
23:57 admsyn it actually probably wouldn't be hard to implement
23:58 admsyn oh actually there's one trick to that
23:58 pizthewiz There isn't any way for the plugin to discover the value of OF_PATH at runtime?
23:58 admsyn I haven't found a way to get the settings out of the .xcconfig file
23:58 pizthewiz (to repopulate the menu)
23:58 admsyn I mean, it can be parsed of course
23:59 admsyn but then you'd be ignoring any settings the user added in the actual "build settings" tab
23:59 admsyn I guess you'd just have to check both and let build settings override the .xcconfig
