16:16 mikewesthad Hey all, anyone know why if I run ofNoise(ofGetElapsedTimef()) for a while, it wouldn't return values <0.2 or >0.8?  I feel like I must be missing something about simplex noise

19:34 fossterer Hi! Can I have one display on Android device and a different display on a connected projector output in an 'OpenFrameWorks Android' app?
19:34 admsyn joined #openframeworks
19:42 fossterer More details - here -- http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21170999/multi-screen-support-for-openframeworks-android-application. Please respond!
19:42 admsyn fossterer: I doubt you're going to get much OF-specific help on that, but a little googling shows that it's possible
19:43 admsyn you'll have to do the gist of it in Java though it seems
19:43 admsyn you're using API version 17+ right?
19:43 fossterer yeas
19:44 fossterer @admsyn: What do you see as a possible solution (from Googling?)
19:45 admsyn http://developer.android.com/about/versions/android-4.2.html
19:46 admsyn look for the bit on "secondary displays"
19:46 fossterer The 'Presentation' API? I used it... but
19:47 fossterer the secondary output is simple enough if it is Android specific.. However I need it to be OF-specific..
19:47 fossterer I mean... the 'pattern display' from the project - 'structured light' which is implemented in OpenFrameWorks..

19:55 pizthewiz admsyn: Have you made any progress with the tr1 stuff? I still don't entirely understand the problem…
19:58 admsyn I haven't
19:58 admsyn I..don't remember what I was saying last time this came up <_< >_>
19:58 admsyn oh you mean the meeting?
20:00 admsyn from what I understand, the "problem" is that there's an #include <tr1/memory>, whereas in C++11 it's just <memory>. This shouldn't really matter at the moment, since oF isn't compiled in c++11 yet, but the OSX 10.9 SDK seems to ditch <tr1/memory>
20:00 admsyn so the "solution" is to switch to the 10.8 SDK, but that's the not really all that relevant to the problem :)
20:00 admsyn and then that's exacerbated a bit, since we can't specifically specify the 10.8 SDK, since you can't have that on older OSXs
20:01 admsyn …I think that covers it <)<
20:01 admsyn *<_<
20:04 admsyn there's probably a semi-obscure #ifdef-y way to get around it, but if I remember correctly, #ifdefing for the SDK isn't straightforward
20:04 admsyn though I admit I haven't really looked
20:15 pizthewiz Yeah sorry (got distracted for a bit there too), from the IRC meeting a little while ago
20:17 pizthewiz So the problem is with the auto-generated target deployment SDK version? And it only afflicts people compiling on newer OS releases right, not older?
20:18 pizthewiz It almost seems like some nasty combo of base/deployment SDK
20:18 admsyn yeah, if you're on 10.9, we've got it set to use the latest SDK, and that means you get the tr1/memory thing
20:19 admsyn BUT we can't just specify 10.8, because if you're on 10.6/10.7 you can't actually have the 10.8 SDK (I think?)
20:19 admsyn and there's no way to say "if you've got the 10.8 SDK use that, otherwise use whatever you've got"
20:19 admsyn there might be a way to dance around the #include with an #ifdef
20:21 admsyn again I should clarify that that's just my understanding of the problem :) I just set my SDK to 10.8 ages ago and haven't given it much thought since
20:40 ofarturo admsyn: we are actually ifdefing for the sdk some other places
20:40 ofarturo !defined(MAC_OS_X_VERSION_10_7)
20:41 ofarturo but i don't know if there's a way to check for >
20:41 admsyn I know I've seen stuff like that around in e.g. the Obj-C / Cocoa headers, but I don't know if it was just documentation hints..
20:42 admsyn do you know if that macro targets the SDK, and not the actual OS?
20:42 ofarturo we use it in the video player to not try to compile quicktime so it should work
20:42 ofarturo it probably even check for > since it's working for 10.8 like that
20:43 admsyn yeah they're all defined as numbers (1010 for 10.1, 1020 for 10.2) etc
20:43 admsyn actually looks like they use a straight up > comparision in availabilitymacros.h
20:43 admsyn so it's apple approved™
20:44 ofarturo :)
20:44 admsyn yeah AVAILABLE_MAC_OS_X_VERSION_10_1_AND_LATER_BUT_DEPRECATED_IN_MAC_OS_X_VERSION_10_2
20:44 admsyn is a macro
20:44 admsyn and there are as many of those as you might think :)
20:45 ofarturo hahaha
20:46 admsyn so maybe I'll take a look at this tonight, assuming pizthewiz isn't neck deep in it right now :)
20:48 ofarturo i guess #if (_MSC_VER) || defined(MAC_OS_X_VERSION_10_9) should do
20:48 ofarturo in ofTypes.h line 6
20:49 admsyn yeah, hopefully it's literally just a switch <tr1/memory> -> <memory> and that's not just going to start some avalanche of nonsense
20:50 fossterer Hi! Is there an equivalent for the addon - "ofxFensterManager" in 'OpenFrameWorks for Android'?
20:52 pizthewiz Damn, 10.6 is super old at this point I'm surprised we can actually qualify a release across 4 OS versions let along a bunch of other platforms
20:53 admsyn i think oF was building for a compatibility target of like iOS 3 until very recently :)
20:59 pizthewiz Ha, that is just nuts!
21:00 pizthewiz You'd have to imagine the install base of people running iOS 3 is in the tenths of a percent.
21:01 pizthewiz Even the original iPhone could run iOS 5
21:04 admsyn hey I don't make the rules
21:04 admsyn I think it's at least iOS 5 now :0
21:04 pizthewiz Let's make some! 😩
21:06 pizthewiz So oF must be using newer API than 10.6 at this point, so while it supports running on 10.6 the ideal compile env is 10.9?
21:07 admsyn I *think* most people are going to be on 10.8 / 10.9 right now, since I don't think there's too much keeping people on 10.7 / 10.8
21:07 admsyn there was some inertia because 10.6.8 hung around for quite a while longer than it was expected too
21:12 pizthewiz Good old 10.6.8, it was the last OS X to support PowerPC too no?
21:12 pizthewiz Actually, maybe that was 10.5 - who knows why 10.6 stuck around so long
21:13 admsyn I think that was 10.6.8… I don't remember exactly what the deal was because I upgraded pretty much right away :_)
