23:20 morganpackard hi oFers. I'm trying to set an XCode breakpoint in ofImage.loadImage and it's not getting hit. lldb seems confused. Furthermore, when I step in to that method, the results I get don't make any sense. I assume something's just messed up with my own setup, but want to make sure there isn't some known issue before  I continue banging my head against this.

04:53 vade jvcleave: I'm downloading your OF image for rip from CMU
04:53 vade so curious to check out the camera.
04:54 vade Do you think you can run the rpi camera and use the OMX player and decode, and mix at a decent res?

21:49 jvcleave vade - currently the ofxOMXPlayer won't play the videos recorded by the camera. I had it working early on and need to re-implement it
21:50 jvcleave and actually the recording is fairly new (as in the last day or so)
21:51 Pando_ hello, I just got started with openframeworks a few days ago, and as I try to do some OpenGL 3d with it, I have some problems , especially with lights
21:53 Pando_ for example I tried a really simple thing, like put a light inside an object to make it a light source, and what I fail to understand is objects around it are lit, but the light source's object in itself stays dark
21:55 admsyn Pando_: if you give your light source an a material with "emissive" properties, it'll look much more like a light
21:55 admsyn see http://www.openframeworks.cc/documentation/gl/ofMaterial.html
21:55 Pando_ I haven't seen any subject with similar problem on the internet, so any help is welcome :-)
21:56 Pando_ yes, that's what I tried first
21:56 Pando_ in fact I'm not sure I'm doing things like I should, I'm actually doing a very basic solar system
21:57 Pando_ so for now, my sun and all the planets are ofSpherePrimitives
21:57 Pando_ but if I try to put a material with emissive color on the sun, the entire scene is lit
21:57 Pando_ like there was a white ambient color in the scene, but there's not. I really don't understand
21:58 admsyn can you post a screenshot?
22:03 Pando_ yes
22:05 Pando_ http://uppix.net/d965Wg.png so for example that's what I see when I put my ofLight inside the sun's ofSpherePrimitive
22:05 Pando_ planets are lit, but not the sun
22:06 admsyn yepp
22:06 admsyn and then if you add an emissive material it's too bright?
22:06 Pando_ I'm going to take a shot of what it looks like with an emissive material
22:10 Pando_ http://uppix.net/wgnppU.png so here everything is lit, there isn't shadows anymore
22:10 vade joined #openframeworks
22:11 Pando_ but maybe I'm doing it wrong with the material. briefly, I call material.begin(), draw the sun, material.end(), and then draw the other planets
22:11 Pando_ so that the planets don't get the same material effects than the sun
22:11 Pando_ but maybe that's not how it's supposed to work
22:11 admsyn yeah that does sounds correct
22:12 admsyn what colour is your material's emissive property set at?
22:12 admsyn and could you try one that's less bright, or even 0 / black to see if that still messes with your shadows
22:13 vade jvcleave: Ah cool. I was more interested in having video playback and the camera simultaneously, from a transcoded source
22:13 vade btw, I did rpi-update etc, and now OF won't compile ha
22:14 jvcleave you may need to do this
22:14 jvcleave sed -i 's/VC_IMAGE_TRANSFORM_T/DISPMANX_TRANSFORM_T/g' /home/pi/openFrameworks/libs/openFrameworks/app/ofAppEGLWindow.cpp
22:14 Pando_ admsyn: currently in my setup() function I have material.setEmissiveColor( ofFloatColor(1.f, 0.99, 0.7) );
22:15 admsyn Pando_: if you just do 0,0,0 does it mess with your shadows?
22:15 SFBurning joined #openframeworks
22:16 jvcleave I haven't tried to use the camera and playback at the same time - might be possible tho
22:16 Pando_ heh, trying with 0,0,0 and now that's kind of weird
22:16 Pando_ seems like there's a light but it's hiding behind the face of the sun the camera can't see. I use an ofEasyCam, maybe that's what messes everything
22:16 Pando_ I'm taking a pic
22:18 Pando_ http://uppix.net/gtyG1W.png on the left of the sun there's like a bright side
22:19 Pando_ which moves when I move the camera : /
22:20 admsyn yeah so just using a material is what makes the shadows not work it seems>
22:21 vade cool thanks jvcleave ill check that out when I'm back
22:21 admsyn anyway apologies, I'm not the greatest with the current state of oF openGL, I think this might be due to the shift towards the programmable renderer (i.e. you might want to look into shaders for doing your lighting)
22:21 admsyn ofarturo or tgfrerer might know better
22:24 Pando_ okay thanks, it doesn't matter :)
22:24 Pando_ wonder why it doesn't work, though...

22:49 Pando_ ofarturo: hi, I was just talking about a problem I have with light/material in openframeworks before you joined, and admsyn said you might know better about these. can you help ?
