01:36 Joel_re hey (repeating my previous question), any kinect thats been plugged into an Xbox cannot be used with openframeworks?
01:38 admsyn Joel_re: not sure, I *think* it's the combination of new 360 kinect + plugged into xbox
01:38 admsyn not just any kinect
01:38 admsyn one sec
01:38 Joel_re ok, Im about to get my hands on a used kinect
01:39 admsyn yeah I don't know, sorry :/
01:39 admsyn https://github.com/openframeworks/openFrameworks/pull/2778
01:39 Joel_re http://mumbai.olx.in/x-box-kinect-with-a-adventure-spotrs-cd-3-year-old-as-good-as-new-and-hardly-used-3-times-iid-598091875#
01:39 Joel_re thats the one
01:39 admsyn that's the most current kinect related stuff for OF I think
01:40 Joel_re ok
01:40 admsyn if it's 3 years old you'r efine
01:40 admsyn I think
01:40 admsyn pretty sure it's the 1473 that's troublesome
01:40 Joel_re ok
01:40 admsyn and I think that's like 1.5 years
01:40 admsyn ago
01:40 Joel_re does it have a number etched anywhere?
01:40 admsyn vOv
01:40 Joel_re I'd ask the seller

08:58 Joel_re_ hey is there any test app I could run to test a kinect on linux
08:58 Joel_re_ with the openframeworks
08:58 Joel_re_ Im about to purchase a used one, was wondering if I could hook it up and test before I purchase it
09:32 ncls Joel_re_: yes I think the OfxKinect module provides a sample app, as always
09:32 ncls wow that's late

09:45 Joel_re_ ncls: thanks!

09:52 ncls Joel_re_: all OF modules are shipped with an example, app. For the Kinect you have all details here : https://github.com/ofTheo/ofxKinect
09:52 Joel_re_ ok
09:52 ncls Joel_re_: beware of this warning : NOTE: Xbox Kinect models > 1414 (1473, etc) or Kinect4Windows devices that have been plugged into an XBox will not work with ofxKinect on Mac OSX
09:52 ncls (I haven't tested it myself, but somebody was pointing this out yesterday)
09:54 Joel_re_ yep, I asked about it :P
09:54 Joel_re_ I think Adam here replied about it
09:54 Joel_re_ Im wondering how do I figure which model is which
09:54 boltR joined #openframeworks
09:54 Joel_re_ is it printed at the back of the kinect?
09:55 Joel_re_ or does it show up in dmesg

16:10 fossterer Should 'OF on Android' apps necessarily sublass 'ofxAndroidApp'? Can't they be simply subclassing 'ofBaseApp'?
16:19 ofarturo fossterer, yes they can subclass ofBaseApp but then you won't get some android specific events like touches, pause/reset/reloadTextures...

16:56 fossterer OK.. Thanks... BTW For a few examples, I'm receiving this error on compiling- "Couldn't find some pkg-config changes. Did you install latest dependncies.sh?"  This is being flagged as from Line 220 of 'openframeworks' but occurs only for a few exmaples

21:36 Razorien Any TCP network wizards in here that could recommend a good way of handling receiving a custom binary format with message length prefix?
21:38 oneironaut <3
21:40 oneironaut ofxNetwork is pretty solid
21:40 oneironaut and should be in the addons dir by default
21:41 oneironaut i think it's abstracted so that you don't have to mess with length prefix stuff, but haven't really needed to cram that much data through it
21:44 Razorien I need to use the receiveRawBytes method to retrieve the data but am new to TCP so I'm curious how others choose to set up their buffers to fill with incoming data and only process once an entire packet has been received.
21:45 Razorien It's easier to use the string formats with a set delimiter but it's not an option for this format I'm afraid.
21:45 oneironaut ah, yah, i have only played with the .send() that delimits everything for you
21:46 pizthewiz If the machines were on the same network, you could squirrel away the data as a binary argument in an OSC message
21:46 Razorien Yeah, it's more convenient :)
21:46 oneironaut osc is slooowww
21:46 pizthewiz Assuming you were on the network and the characteristics of UDP were OK
21:46 oneironaut (in my experience)
21:47 oneironaut a simple buffer should do the trick for you though if the message length is prefixed
21:47 pizthewiz UDP is slower than TCP, interesting :0)
21:47 oneironaut well, i think the bottleneck was somewhere in the osc abstraction
21:48 oneironaut though maybe i wasn't using osc binary support properly
21:48 Razorien I guess I could use a list<char> or something as a local buffer... insert incoming data at the end and erase complete packages from the front once they've been processed.
21:48 oneironaut but from what i've seen osc is usually for midi or low-bandwidth protocols that require low-latency
21:48 pizthewiz Yeah, I can't say I've done it, but it should be very possible
21:49 pizthewiz Low-latency == "slooowww" ? :0)
21:51 oneironaut low latency = fast
21:51 oneironaut but osc was only low latency when i was using it at low bandwidth
21:52 oneironaut sounds like Razorien is trying to send high-bandwidth binary (assuming so)
21:53 pizthewiz Yep, ofxNetwork sounds like a good fit in that case
22:11 Razorien The plan is to use TCP for messages and UDPlater for things like position data etc.
