16:38 Pando hello everyone, I encountered something that may be strange with shaders
16:38 Pando I have an app that uses normal of lighting, and then I tried to add shaders to it
16:39 Pando so just like in the of shaders tutorial I put ofSetCurrentRenderer(ofGLProgrammableRenderer::TYPE); at the beginning of my main()
16:39 Pando but it seems to completely break the of lighting system. is it ok ?
16:39 Pando are there some workarounds
16:53 vade joined #openframeworks
16:59 ofarturo Pando: there's no lights in opengl 3
17:00 ofarturo you need to do it with shaders
17:00 Pando oh, ok
17:00 Pando I wasn't aware of that
17:02 Pando so working with a bunch of ofLights becomes kind of useless when dealing with shaders, right ?
17:19 ofarturo yes
17:19 ofarturo we need to do something about that, like a version of ofLight that uses shaders internally to calculate the lighting
17:19 ofarturo but by now you need to do it manually

17:22 Pando ok... actually I wanted to be able to use for example a blinn-phong shader on an object and "normal" ofLight on another to see the difference
17:24 Pando but everything's going to be blinn-phong'd then, doesn't matter. thanks

17:48 keeran any tips on finding memory leaks in of apps? :) being told my app crashes every ~1.5hrs on deploy machine, can't make it happen locally "S
17:50 jvcleave keeran - Instruments if you are using a mac

18:00 keeran cool thanks, certainly helps visualizing when memory is allocated etc
18:18 keeran so i had a ofqtkitplayer continually being fed new movies and not explcitly being close()d after each load/play
18:19 keeran not sure it was the cause, but cant have helped

18:24 Pando ofarturo: by the way, is there a way to programmatically roll back to the "normal" renderer inside the app in order to make the classic light system work again ?
18:24 Pando i.e. disabling the shaders
18:27 austinslominski joined #openframeworks
19:14 ofarturo Pando: no, the window at the beginning creates the opengl context with 3.0 if you use the programmable renderer, you would need to create a separate context manually or something like that and not even sure it would work across versions
19:28 Pando ofarturo: ok, going to stick with that. do you have any pointers on how to create a basic lighting system using only shaders ?
19:29 Pando some way of obtaining the same lights effects than the default ones
19:29 Pando using only shaders

19:31 pizthewiz keeran: Could you use the AV Foundation video player instead of QTKit? https://github.com/kronick/ofxAVFVideoPlayer
19:32 keeran dont really want to replace such an important component at this stage of the project :S
19:32 keeran maybe keep it in my pocket if this mem fix isnt actually a fix :)
19:42 keeran i think the problem is with ofxVideoRecorder rather than the playback anyways
