16:40 vcuculo hi, how could I pass an audio file played with ofSoundPlayer to the audioOut callback?
16:43 admsyn hi vcuculo
16:43 admsyn ofSoundPlayer / ofSoundStream kind of exist in different universes, so you can't really do that
16:43 admsyn depending on what platform you're on there are other options though
16:44 vcuculo admsyn: oh ok...I'm on linux, and I'm trying to reproduce 3 audio files to different channels of a 7.1 audio system
16:46 admsyn I think you might have a better time using OpenAL directly in that case
16:46 admsyn maybe
16:46 admsyn I'm not too knowledgable about linux sound stuff anymore so .. grain of salt :)
16:48 vcuculo ok thanks, better than nothing...I'll take a look to OpenAL

16:58 stephanschulz hi. does anyone now why the kinect on osx would init fine one time and the next time says: "freenect_extra_alive reply status != 0: failure?"
16:59 admsyn I've found kinects can behave badly if you disconnect / reconnect a few times "harshly"
16:59 admsyn like crash quitting, force quitting etc
17:00 admsyn also someone just opened up an issue about exactly this https://github.com/openframeworks/openFrameworks/issues/2968
17:00 admsyn had it happen on OSX and windows too
17:00 admsyn and w/ windows it was the kinect common bridge
17:00 admsyn so vOv
17:00 admsyn if you reboot do you find the problem goes away?
17:01 admsyn because that's what I've basically resigned to doing for a project in the past
17:01 stephanschulz let's try
17:01 stephanschulz but i think i have seen mixed results
17:03 stephanschulz nope
17:03 stephanschulz did not help
17:03 admsyn interesting, different problem then I imagine
17:03 gabrielstuff joined #openframeworks
17:03 admsyn though this would kind of imply a straight up hardware issue to me?
17:04 stephanschulz i am using the kinect with one of those nyko zoom lenses
17:04 admsyn can't imagine that'd matter
17:04 admsyn you're using the latest OF / ofxKinect?
17:05 stephanschulz 0.8.1
17:05 stephanschulz addon vers?
17:05 admsyn if you're using the download that's latest enough
17:05 admsyn what's your hardware setup like?
17:06 stephanschulz let me try a fresh ofxkinect
17:06 GChriss joined #openframeworks
17:06 admsyn are you using > 1 kinect?
17:06 stephanschulz i tried but
17:06 stephanschulz had similar problems
17:07 stephanschulz so now i am trying to just use one to make it more stable
17:07 admsyn I know that there's power draw issues if you use more than one on the same bus / hub / whatever
17:07 admsyn or rather I've heard that there's issues with that :) I've only ever used one at a time
17:08 stephanschulz i have used 2 in the past
17:08 stephanschulz without a problem on osx10.6 with of 0.7.1
17:08 stephanschulz but since i have newer kinects i need to use the newer ofkinext and OF vers
17:11 stephanschulz just removed the lens
17:12 stephanschulz and it seems to work better
17:12 admsyn ?
17:12 admsyn you're talking just a lens that goes on top of the kinect?
17:13 stephanschulz yes
17:13 stephanschulz nyko zoom
17:13 admsyn that is odd
17:13 admsyn well, there's an openkinect IRC if I remember correctly, you might get better help there
17:13 admsyn #OpenKinect
17:14 stephanschulz thx will that now

17:53 stephanschulz i am slowly find a more stable setup
17:53 stephanschulz but when i exit the app now i get this error:
17:53 stephanschulz Thread 1:EXC_BAD_ACCESS (code=1, address =0x7…….)
17:53 stephanschulz from this line in ofxKinectContext::clear()
17:53 stephanschulz ofLogVerbose("ofxKinect") << "context cleared";
17:54 admsyn alright, at least you're getting to stuff that's sort of under your control :)
17:54 admsyn what's your shutdown code like?
17:55 stephanschulz kinect[i].close() on exit
17:55 stephanschulz at this point i just commented out the oflog line
17:57 stephanschulz do you think this error is kinect related or oflog related?
17:57 stephanschulz i.e. pointing to a kinect problem or oflog problem
17:58 admsyn erroring on ofLog is a little weird yeah
17:58 admsyn might be worth checking that e.g. kinect[i] is a valid thing during the shutdown routine
17:59 admsyn but there's not really any harm in commenting out the ofLog line if you think it might be the issue
18:05 stephanschulz so i got gutsy and thought i would try two kinects
18:05 stephanschulz but get this error
18:05 stephanschulz http://pastebin.com/eHJwpiXU
18:06 admsyn yeah that sound like a hardware issue there :) e.g. power draw
18:06 admsyn I hear getting an external powered USB hub is the way to go
18:06 stephanschulz strange
18:06 stephanschulz because the kinect is already powered
18:06 stephanschulz via the power supply
18:06 admsyn yeah well life
18:06 admsyn vOv
18:07 admsyn you might want to chime in on the github issue I posted earlier, looks like theo is digging into it right now, and he certainly knows more about this stuff that I do

20:52 admsyn hey tgfrerer
20:53 admsyn REL ofMatrixStack, OF_MATRIX_ORIENTATION isn't handled in pushMatrix() or matrixMode()
20:53 admsyn *RE:
20:53 admsyn should it actually handle those, log a warning, do nothing…?
20:54 admsyn I was just going to throw an empty case in there but looking over everything I'm not really sure what's right :/
20:58 tgfrerer hey adam!
20:58 admsyn hey tim :)
20:59 tgfrerer yes, i think it should get pushed and popped, too, but since matrixmode is based on how opengl 2.0 did it
20:59 tgfrerer there is no direct equivalent to orientationmatrices in that reference implementation
21:00 tgfrerer orientation matrices are an openframeworks special =)
21:01 tgfrerer there is an orientationmatrix stack in ofMatrixStack if i remember correctly
21:01 admsyn ahh yeah I was like ¯\(°_o)/¯
21:01 admsyn there is
21:02 tgfrerer i wonder if it would be hard to implement the push / pop for that - i could look into it tomorrow, o think
21:02 tgfrerer i think
21:03 admsyn so would it be just like http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=FGtyZahw ?
21:03 admsyn oh ok cool :)
21:03 admsyn yeah it's just throwing a few warnings in Xcode, no rush or anything
21:04 tgfrerer yes, your pastebin looks promising =)
21:04 admsyn haha
21:04 tgfrerer is make_pair cpp11 or already available in good old cpp?
21:04 admsyn that is a good question
21:04 admsyn it's c++11 actually IIRC
21:04 tgfrerer i'm a bit low ob google-fu, since on iphone, you must forgive me =)
21:04 admsyn I just copy/pasted it from somewhere else in ofMatrixStack :3
21:05 admsyn yeah maybe I'll just open an issue about it, nbd, no rush
21:06 tgfrerer cool ! i'll see too look jnto it tomorrow, then =)
21:13 AceSlowman joined #openframeworks
21:13 AceSlowman does anyone know how I could use ofVideoPlayer to load a video outside of setup()?
21:14 admsyn you should be able to load it wherever, though IIRC ofToDataPath can sometimes act weird if you call it before setup()
21:14 admsyn is that what's up?
21:15 AceSlowman So I have a loadMovie(path) and play() in the setup, which works fine with a fixed path, but I want to change the path as the program runs. (I assume I just can't change that variable while it's in setup())
21:16 admsyn you should be able to do that? you mean you're just changing from e.g. "data/movie1.mov" to "data/movie2.mov" sometime after the app launches?
21:18 AceSlowman yeah. Maybe there is something else going on with loading the video itself. I just checked the log and it says something about the CoreVideo pixel buffer not being the same as what the QTKit Movie is reporting. (Which I don't really know what to think of)
21:19 admsyn huh
21:19 admsyn does the second movie work if you load it off the bat?
21:21 AceSlowman ergh, it doesn't (should have checked that first). I figured it being a .mov would make it ok.
21:37 AceSlowman setup() only runs once though right?
21:37 admsyn yepp
21:39 AceSlowman Where should I put something like ofVideoPlayer.loadMovie(path); if the path will change? Even with a working video, path doesn't want to update in setup()
21:40 admsyn you can just build the string dynamically whenever you find out what the filename will be
21:41 admsyn so, if it was going to be "movie23" where "23" is just some number that you don't know at compile time:
21:41 admsyn string fileName = "movie"; movie.append("23");
21:41 admsyn uh
21:41 admsyn fileName.append("23");
21:48 AceSlowman Ah! Since I am appending in draw, it is appending quickly, so I'm getting "movie.movmovie.movmovie.mov" and so on. How could I tell it to stop appending after being updated once?
21:49 jedahan joined #openframeworks
21:50 admsyn you could make it "on the stack"
21:50 admsyn i.e. create it inside draw()
21:50 admsyn so like void ofApp::draw() { string fileName; }
21:50 admsyn instead of having it be a member of your ofApp
21:51 AceSlowman ah, and then maybe append that to the variable in setup()?
21:51 admsyn well it'd only exist in draw() in that case
21:52 admsyn I guess, where exactly are you trying to generate a filename and I can tell you how to set that up :)
21:53 AceSlowman Haha thanks. So to sum it up, I have my loadMovie() in setup(), and when the qr code is found in draw(), the filename is parsed from it and has to make it back. So you could pick videos based on qr code.
21:54 admsyn ok, so you're decoding the QR code in update() ?
21:55 AceSlowman Yeah
21:58 admsyn ok so you'd be looking at something like this: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=aQ9pa5nk
21:58 admsyn or you *could* do something like that, there's a few ways you could do it of course :)
21:58 admsyn so if the QR code decodes into like "123" that'd load "movie123.mov"
21:59 admsyn you could also use a stringstream if you want to get fancy but that might be overcomplicating it :)
22:02 admsyn also you can use + to stick strings together instead of .append(), if that makes more sense to you
22:02 admsyn like string fileName = "movie" + qrString + ".mov";
22:08 AceSlowman That should be a good jumping off point! I have to run, but thanks a lot.
