00:04 pizthewiz Shared Objects are dylibs right?
00:04 pizthewiz Generally, I think static libraries are preferred so the application runtime is self-contained
00:04 Fox^ I think so. Same effect,
00:04 Fox^ but different os
00:05 pizthewiz I was going to suggest you check out the Gstreamer addon as it definitely uses shared objects on Linux, but… the addon doesn't support Linux?
00:05 pizthewiz https://github.com/arturoc/ofxGStreamer/blob/master/addon_config.mk
00:07 pizthewiz Ah ha, bakercp's ofxJSON uses libjsoncpp-dev on Linux: https://github.com/bakercp/ofxJSON/blob/master/addon_config.mk
00:14 Fox^ cool, thanks
00:20 Fox^ also if I use the git version of 0.8.3, will I be able to copy it to Linux, mac, and windows machines? obviously I would need to recompile of per os
00:21 Fox^ I just mean is the code cross compatibile in that way?
00:27 pizthewiz If you grab the OF source from git, it is buildable on all supported platforms yes.
00:28 pizthewiz Your OF application on the other hand, you may need to take steps to isolate any platform-specific stuff.
00:28 Fox^ Are there any forseeable issues, other then app specific compiling?
00:29 Fox^ Also thanks for the info. its very helpful :)
00:52 pizthewiz You may encounter some platform specific stuff if your app uses different video or audio playback per platfom.
00:52 pizthewiz Some like using APIs sitting on native APIs, switching per platform. And others like using a single API for all (usually something like Gstreamer).
00:54 pizthewiz Asset loading sometimes catches people out too since on OS X it is common to include resources in the application bundle and not a sidecar folder. But you should be able to use the default bin/data anywhere - probably more of an issue if you are distributing the app to others.

14:39 Nickelme Hey, Is there a way to speed up linking time on windows with codeblocks when you use the Assimp addon? I notice when ever you include the assimp addon it takes quite a bit longer.

16:57 oneironaut Nickelme: don't know of any ways to speed up linking off the top of my head
16:57 oneironaut you could maybe see if your sketch can do without some of the libs linked
16:58 oneironaut like remove some, see if it builds, etc
16:58 Nickelme Actaully i did speed up linking
16:58 oneironaut how'd you manage?
16:59 Nickelme It was setup to link with the dll for assimp. i changed it to the lib file for vs and renamed the dll in the bin folder to Assimp32.dll
16:59 Nickelme Seems to work fine

20:02 AlexAbraham hey
20:03 AlexAbraham anyopne know how to crop a ofVideoGrabber?
20:08 Nickelme if i had to take a quick guess i suppose you might be able to grab the pixels for each frame and put it in an ofimage and use the ofimage crop then draw.
20:08 Nickelme but thats just a guess
20:08 Nickelme there might be a better way
20:09 AlexAbraham so ofImage has a crop function but so does ofPixels
20:09 AlexAbraham how do I create the ofImage? Do i use getPixels function of ofVideoGrabber or ofPixelsRef
20:14 Nickelme yea but im not sure if there is a way to draw ofPixels
20:15 Nickelme "To draw pixels, you need to put them into an ofTexture and to manipulate an ofTextures pixel data you need an ofPixels object." -OpenFrameworks ofPixels Documation
20:15 AlexAbraham so i could get the ofTexture from the ofVideoGrabber
20:17 Nickelme oh yea then you might be able to use the ofTexture drawSubsection
20:22 AlexAbraham what is float sx and float sy?
20:23 AlexAbraham nvm i got it :-)
20:23 Nickelme alright cool. ive never used those function yet so i wasnt too sure.
20:29 AlexAbraham meh it dorsn’t seem to work for me
20:29 AlexAbraham i doing st wrong
20:30 Nickelme oh?
20:30 Nickelme whats happening?
20:30 AlexAbraham Im not sure what to do
20:30 AlexAbraham here is what i am trying to accomplish
20:31 AlexAbraham I want to crop the videograbber to fit half the screen
20:31 AlexAbraham and i have a ofxCvGrayscaleImage which i want to crop for the other half
20:31 AlexAbraham and put them side by side
20:32 Nickelme idk anything about cv sorry
20:32 AlexAbraham no prob :-)
20:32 asper void ofVideoGrabber::draw(float x, float y, float w, float h)
20:32 AlexAbraham right but that resizes it and squishes image
20:33 AlexAbraham truth is i only need to resize the grayscale image since it will appear on top of the regular one
20:39 jedahan joined #openframeworks
20:39 Nickelme AlexAbraham Is something like http://puu.sh/aekKW/5b15d8aa19.png that what you are looking for?
20:40 AlexAbraham hmm
20:40 AlexAbraham i don’t think that is cropping the image
20:40 Nickelme when you draw it you just got to make sure its in the same aspect ratio as you capture it.
20:40 Nickelme it isnt cropping it
20:41 Nickelme its resizing i believe
20:42 Nickelme or rather it actually isnt even resizing it in my example because im drawing it at the same size ive set to capture.
20:45 admsyn AlexAbraham: you could try drawing it into an FBO to "crop" it
20:46 admsyn are you looking for an arbitrary crop rectangle or just zooming in a bit?
20:48 admsyn and yeah, drawSubsection's probably the way you want to go. Forgot about that one :)
20:49 Nickelme http://puu.sh/aelDx/e18bb279fe.png like this? idk if its cropped because i dont have a camera to use with this right now

21:29 AlexAbraham hey
21:29 jekyllRo joined #openframeworks
21:29 AlexAbraham if i have an ofTexture
21:29 AlexAbraham is there a way to find out how to get a pixel color?
21:32 pizthewiz A texture resides on the GPU, you'd have to make an ofImage out of it to sample a pixel value from it no?
21:33 Nickelme you could readToPixels() then use getColor from the pixels it returns
21:33 AlexAbraham can i do that?
21:36 AlexAbraham so would i pass in an x and y as a parameter?
21:38 Nickelme yea to find out the color of the pixel your looking at.
21:43 admsyn worth mentioning is that reading back pixels from the GPU is pretty slow and you generally try to avoid it if possible
21:45 AlexAbraham aha
21:46 AlexAbraham what do i pass as a parameter into the readToPixels() function
21:46 Nickelme the pixels object you will be reading it to.
21:48 Nickelme and about admsyn comment about speed that is true so its in your best intrest not to do it every frame if you can help it. if you are still working with the video grabber for this you might want to use the isFrameNew() function to determind when you should get process the frame
