18:48 admsyn hey AlexAbraham_
18:48 AlexAbraham_ heyyy
18:48 AlexAbraham_ long time no speak :-)
18:48 admsyn Canny on a cv blob doesn't really make sense as far as I can tell
18:48 admsyn usually you would do it on an image
18:48 AlexAbraham_ right
18:49 AlexAbraham_ canny wasen’t really working out for me
18:49 tubes4branes joined #openframeworks
18:49 AlexAbraham_ I was trying to get it to detect an outline for the eye
18:49 AlexAbraham_ but i couldn’t get the threshhold right
18:50 tubes4branes noob question: Set up OpenFrameworks that builds its examples using NDK, and SDK, the build works fine on the first go, then it errors out saying it can't find "#include <GLES/gl.h>", I've tried including it in the search paths, and still no luck, I've found it in the platform directories, but really at a loss how to set up a basic workflow.
18:50 tubes4branes I'm working with the Android Open Frameworks.
18:51 AlexAbraham_ tubes4branes I remember trying to setup android ndk and openframeworks in eclipse and it wasn’t really working
18:51 tubes4branes for the life of me I can't figure out why #include <GLES/gl.h> can't be found...
18:51 tubes4branes http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10793910/gl-h-glext-h-not-found
18:51 admsyn if it works once, and then not the next time that's pretty weird yeah
18:51 AlexAbraham_ In the end i deleted everything from eclipse off my computer and followed instructions to the letter and it worked fine
18:51 tubes4branes the weird part it works fine the first time, but if I open OFapp.h it always shows that it can't find the header file.
18:52 AlexAbraham_ thats strange
18:52 tubes4branes I have a clean system I can go through the install on.
18:52 tubes4branes but I just followed the instructions on the OF site for Android / Ecclipse to the letter.
18:53 admsyn what's your path for GLES?
18:53 tubes4branes I did notice that one of the files referenced android-ndk-r9c, but the instructions said to get android-ndk-r9b
18:53 tubes4branes one sec, let me post that.
18:53 admsyn I'd imagine that's fine
18:53 tubes4branes android-ndk-r9b
18:53 tubes4branes one sec.
18:54 tubes4branes "/Users/computer/projects/c-ray/subversion/cray/of/android-ndk-r9b"
18:54 admsyn oh actually @ofarturo is in here, he'd be waaayyy more qualified to answer this one than me :)
18:54 tubes4branes NDK_ROOT=/Users/computer/projects/c-ray/subversion/cray/of/android-ndk-r9b
18:55 tubes4branes I can try downloading android-ndk-r9c if you think that would make a difference.
18:55 admsyn probably not, it sounds like you're missing an include path OR eclipse is being weird
18:55 tubes4branes another oddity is when I'm in ecclipse and I edit Android.mk, and Application.mk, once I hit build/run it overwrites the contents of that file, so that leaves me a little perplexed as well.
18:56 tubes4branes the weird part is if I import an example, it will build and run fine on the external device.
18:57 admsyn yeah that'd imply you're basically missing a path or build setting etc
18:57 tubes4branes but then I go to look at the src/OFApp.cpp or something and it shows the errors on the referenced objects, etc...
18:57 tubes4branes do you think my path could be to long?
18:57 admsyn no that's probably not it
18:57 tubes4branes or that somehow its trying to reference the NDK in the wrong spot?
18:58 admsyn try and take a look at the settings in the example project, it sounds like there's some key difference between them and yours
18:58 admsyn that's all I've got really, unless someone here knows more about eclipse :)
18:58 tubes4branes one thing I'm realizing is where the gl.h file is located is under the platform directories, and could it be something as simple as its not setting the build target correctly on the subsequent builds?
18:58 AlexAbraham_ admsyn what platform do you use openframeworks on? osx?
18:58 tubes4branes because I imagine it accesses those platforms depending on what target is specified, and what level of OpenGL ES you are using.
18:59 admsyn AlexAbraham_: yeah
18:59 tubes4branes I'm on OS X.
18:59 AlexAbraham_ do you know how to open an example for osx?
18:59 AlexAbraham_ I tried in xcode 6 and it gives me an error
18:59 admsyn yeah just open the .xcodeproj (and have xcode installed)
18:59 AlexAbraham_ It also didn’t work in xcode 5
18:59 admsyn which errors?
18:59 tubes4branes I haven't tried xcode 6  :(
18:59 AlexAbraham_ same build error in xcode 5
19:00 tubes4branes what is the error you are getting.
19:00 admsyn xcode 5 should work, and I just fixed xcode 6 a week ago or so (on github master not the downloaded OF)
19:00 AlexAbraham_ https://gist.github.com/AlexAbraham1/ab371f136725d4c5fd95
19:00 AlexAbraham_ does that mean anything to you?
19:01 tubes4branes can you try a make clean?
19:01 admsyn yeah that would imply you're building for 64bit
19:02 AlexAbraham_ all i did was click the play button :-)
19:02 admsyn which might happen if you delete that setting, or possibly if xcode "upgrades" your settings automatically
19:02 admsyn it sounds like you let xcode auto-update your build settings, pretty sure I've seen that before in that case
19:03 AlexAbraham_ so how would i change that
19:03 tubes4branes I believe you have to build OF as a 32 bit app.
19:03 admsyn fix is to go to your build settings and set your architectures to 32bit
19:03 admsyn instead of I think "standard" which is 64bit
19:04 AlexAbraham_ lets start from the beginning
19:04 AlexAbraham_ is this the github zip i should download?
19:05 AlexAbraham_ https://github.com/openframeworks/openFrameworks
19:07 admsyn the download usually refers to the one off the site, here http://openframeworks.cc/download/
19:08 admsyn you could use the one off github, but IMO there's not really a point unless you're getting the git repo along without (to contribute, keep up to date etc)
19:08 AlexAbraham_ right but you said it was updated on github, not the site
19:08 admsyn oh sure, yeah
19:08 admsyn but you won't get example projects with the zip off github
19:08 AlexAbraham_ right
19:08 AlexAbraham_ i have some examples
19:09 AlexAbraham_ in the meantime, which setting do i change under build settings?
19:09 admsyn change Architectures to 32bit
19:10 admsyn or the setting that says i386 in any case, not sure if the wording is different between xcode5/6
19:10 AlexAbraham_ 32-bit Intel (i386)
19:11 admsyn yepp
19:11 ofarturo tubes4branes the error you were describing is because eclipse's semantic analizer fails sometimes, even if the project compiles fine it will be unable to find some symbols. you need to disable it. it's described in the setup guide
19:13 tubes4branes oh, I better look more closely at that, thank you so much ofarturo.
19:13 tubes4branes :)
19:13 tubes4branes I will try that.
19:13 tubes4branes thank you!
19:15 zeta joined #openframeworks
19:15 zeta hi there
19:15 AlexAbraham_ is there a way i could transfer the examples to the github build?
19:15 admsyn hi zeta
19:15 AlexAbraham_ I got this error when trying to run an example using i386 directly from the download build folder
19:15 AlexAbraham_ http://pastebin.com/B0fXpbY0
19:16 admsyn AlexAbraham_: not as a bulk thing no, just copying really
19:16 AlexAbraham_ i only need one example to work
19:16 admsyn yeah so that's the error I was talking about fixing, it's a patch to CoreOF.xcconfig, so it's easy enough to pull the one off github and replace the one in your regular OF download
19:16 admsyn one sec
19:16 zeta anybody knows how to build apoenframeworks for bb10?
19:17 AlexAbraham_ openframeworks supports blackberry 10?
19:18 admsyn pretty sure I've seen a fork for that somewhere, but you're pretty much on your own zeta :)
19:18 admsyn 99% sure it's on the forums
19:18 admsyn AlexAbraham_: this is the file you want to replace https://github.com/openframeworks/openFrameworks/blob/master/libs/openFrameworksCompiled/project/osx/CoreOF.xcconfig
19:18 AlexAbraham_ zeta http://forum.openframeworks.cc/t/ofxqnx-blackberry-playbook-and-bb10-add-on/10726
19:19 zeta yeah I saw that but that is a old version of openframeworks, isn't it?
19:20 admsyn yes looks like it's 0.7.4
19:20 tubes4branes ofarturo, there seems to be some conflicts with regard to the OF Setup Guide:
19:21 tubes4branes in the FAQ section, it mentions that the NDK should be r8d, but above it says r9b, and then in the actual OF Android Release download, I notice that the references are for r9c.
19:22 AlexAbraham_ sweet it worked!
19:22 admsyn AlexAbraham_: nice :)
19:22 tubes4branes which NDK version is the version to use with the current Android OF release that is available for download?
19:24 zeta is there a plan to port for bb10 ?
19:24 zeta or make openframeworks multiplatform?
19:24 admsyn it's pretty multiplatform as it is, just not that platform :)
19:25 zeta mm
19:25 admsyn realistically I wouldn't hold out hope for official support for bb10
19:25 zeta and for windows phone?
19:26 admsyn IIRC msopentech did something for windows phone sometime recently?
19:26 * admsyn looks
19:26 zeta ok
19:27 admsyn yeah msopentech has a fork that has winrt support with windows phone support coming later this year (what they said in an email)
19:27 admsyn https://github.com/MSOpenTech/openFrameworks
19:28 zeta I going to try to compile on bb10
19:28 zeta what version should I use?
19:29 zeta the desktop version or any arm version?
19:30 admsyn honestly, no idea, I'd base it off of whatever ofxQNX is doing if I had to..
19:31 admsyn what sort of project did you have in mind, zeta?
19:32 zeta I found this library it looks very interesting
19:33 zeta I have a bb10 device that I won recently in a contest, and I want to experiment
19:34 admsyn ah alright, cool
19:34 admsyn basically what I'm getting at is that OF might not be the best choice if what you're looking to do is just make a multiplatform mobile app
19:36 zeta I want to make an app for learning music interactivly
19:37 zeta or create funny particles
19:38 admsyn yeah that's a good fit then :)
19:38 zeta yeah
19:38 zeta if i code on android version
19:38 admsyn btw here's the scoop on the MSopentech windows port if you're interested http://dev.openframeworks.cc/pipermail/of-dev-openframeworks.cc/2014-February/024853.html
19:38 zeta it also compiles on ios?
19:39 admsyn yes but practically speaking you're going to need some code for each platform
19:39 admsyn it's all C++ though, and using the same core functionality
19:41 zeta ok
19:42 zeta there is some augmented reality support?
19:50 zeta joined #openframeworks
19:50 zeta hi
19:50 zeta may connection fails
19:50 zeta so there is support for augmented reality?
19:50 zeta or something like that?
19:51 admsyn there's good support for opencv, and then there are some addons which will help with certain AR things
19:51 zeta oh
19:52 zeta the open cv support is an abstraction of it?
19:52 admsyn openframeworks comes with an addon called ofxOpenCv, and there's an alternative called ofxCv that's a bit more modern and C++y
19:52 zeta ok
19:54 zeta thanks
19:54 zeta happy coding
19:54 admsyn you too
19:59 AlexAbraham_ hey admsyn
19:59 admsyn what's up
19:59 AlexAbraham_ I am trying to include ofxOpenCvHaarinder.h in xcode but it gives me a build error saying it can’t be found
19:59 AlexAbraham_ I see it in the addons flder though
19:59 admsyn well there's a typo in what you just said but I imagine that's not it :p
20:00 admsyn you need to add opencv's include folder to your build settings manually, so that'd probably be it
20:00 AlexAbraham_ okay...
20:00 admsyn which IDE are you in?
20:00 AlexAbraham_ xcode 6
20:01 admsyn ok then, head to build settings, "header search paths", add the path to the ofxOpenCv include folder
20:02 admsyn or actually you don't have to, just add ofxOpenCv to your project
20:02 admsyn right click the addons group, add files to project...
20:02 admsyn but you'll have to add the opencv path, which is in ofxOpenCv/libs/opencv
20:03 AlexAbraham_ oh sweet :-)
20:03 admsyn there's an xcode plugin for this, just saying <_< >_> git@github.com:admsyn/OFPlugin.git
20:03 admsyn er https://github.com/admsyn/OFPlugin
20:03 admsyn but it's still good to know how to do it for reals
20:04 AlexAbraham_ i still get the error that its not found]
20:04 admsyn for ofxOpenCvHaarFinder?
20:05 AlexAbraham_ ya
20:05 admsyn if you add ofxOpenCv's src folder to your project it should figure it out..
20:07 admsyn oh it's ofxCvHaarFinder.h
20:07 admsyn not ofxOpenCv..
20:07 admsyn that might be it?
20:07 AlexAbraham_ right
20:08 AlexAbraham_ but ofxCvHaarFinder.h is in the src folder of ofxOpenCv
20:09 AlexAbraham_ i think i got it
20:10 AlexAbraham_ I had to add the folder /addons/ofxOpenCv
20:10 AlexAbraham_ it contains src and libs
20:10 admsyn yeah.
20:10 AlexAbraham_ now i get a different error :-(
20:10 AlexAbraham_ #include "opencv2/core/core_c.h"
20:10 AlexAbraham_ not found
20:11 admsyn right so that's the one you need to actually add a header search path for
20:11 admsyn one sec I'll get you one you can copy paste
20:12 admsyn $(OF_PATH)/addons/ofxOpenCv/libs/opencv/include/
20:12 AlexAbraham_ just double click, click plus, and paste?
20:12 admsyn and then you'll get a link error, because you need to add opencv.a to your project (in ofxOpenCv/libs/opencv/lib/osx/)
20:12 admsyn yeah add that as one of your header search paths
20:13 admsyn and then after that you shuold be good
20:13 AlexAbraham_ its working :-)
