15:04 jjguest Hi, I was wandering if anyone can help me, I'm incredibly new to all of this, basically I'm trying to run ofxFaceTracker as an addon generated by projectgenerator, and I am getting this error "linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation)"
15:42 billautomata that is an error that means your project isn't setup correctly
15:43 billautomata most addons have default xcode settings for previous versions of xcode or OF or configurations that flat would not work on anyones computer
15:43 billautomata what you have to do is transplant the code from the example into an empty OF example
15:44 billautomata then go into your IDE and add the paths to the addon, so when xcode or codeblocks goes to compile it knows where the .h and .cpp files are
15:44 billautomata these skills are separate knowledge from programming or computer science in general
15:44 billautomata "these skills" being configuring xcode to compile your project
15:45 billautomata huge efforts are put forth to get the default examples to compile on a wide variety of systems, it is not uncommon for an expert user to have the same issues you are having
15:46 jjguest Thank you for your help, do I have to transplant each example separately?
15:47 billautomata yeah, get used to taking your testApp.h and testApp.cpp file and copying the pertinent parts into an empty skeleton
15:48 billautomata I commonly read the code on github and just type the useful parts into my code after I have imported my project files
15:49 billautomata I found it rare that "3rd party" addons had example project file that worked out of the box
15:49 jjguest See I'm completely new to Xcode and coding in general so it's going to take me a while to get my head around all of this
15:49 billautomata maybe try something easier, that's discouraging but I wouldn't wish xcode on verteran programmers
15:50 billautomata you will spend a lot of time not programming
15:50 billautomata and you can't solve the linker errors unless you know what a linker is doing with your code, why things would be missing, and what the precursors to those missing elements are
15:51 jjguest It's for an art project so my aim wasn't to learn coding as such but I guess it's something I have to do to if I want to achieve my end goal

15:55 jjguest I just wanted to project a live feed of a persons face and have their mouth replaced
15:55 billautomata isn't there an already compiled version of the ofxfacetracker app that just outputs the coordinats?
15:55 billautomata you can run that app on your computer, and have it talk to another simpler app that gets OSC messages

15:56 billautomata that simpler app can draw what you need without having to compile and link a bunch of computer vision code
15:56 billautomata yeah opencv is a real sh**show to compile

15:58 billautomata but you don't actually need to write computer vision code, you want to write some graphics code that responds to an already created app that uses computer vision to output coordinates of someones face
15:59 billautomata you will use opencv for sure, but your art project isn't about "how do I track faces"

16:03 billautomata there, if you run faceosc, it will send the coordinates you need over OSC messages to the local host on port 8338
16:04 jjguest Thank you so much for your help, greatly appreciated, going to play about with faceosc and see what I can do
16:04 billautomata then you can write a program that takes those coordinates and draws stuff
16:05 billautomata np, I hate that some of my advice was, "don't do the thing you want to do" but you would be fighting xcode until you gave up in frustration
16:07 jjguest Haha, no you've been great, I'm way out of my depth so I needed to be told that so I didn't waste weeks of trying to learn code
