12:18 kritzikratzi no, but i’m most curioius
12:18 kritzikratzi *curious
12:18 kritzikratzi not having to maintain lots of different project files seems tempting

12:28 kritzikratzi hi! does anyone here have windows 10 and visual studio 2012 installed (2015 community might work too) and has a bit of time to test an OF sketch?
12:28 kritzikratzi this is the project: https://github.com/kritzikratzi/Oscilloscope
12:29 kritzikratzi i was told it just shows black (guessing its a problem with the shader / shader extension), but i don’t know for sure.
12:34 kritzikratzi well, i’ll be back online in roughly 25 minutes. any help is greatly appreciated.

17:12 banana_ Hi!
17:13 banana_ I think i kinda figured out what i need to program to start with, for VJ + wacom purposes.
17:14 GuidovanPossum which one is that?
17:14 banana_ Would it be possible to output the visual information most OF add ons output, to put that out to a "layer" or panel, and to be able to move those layers/panels around in a 3d space?
17:15 banana_ That would be making a visual jocky program in which the variables are 1) from the wacom tablet (XY position, pressure and tilt, and velocity)  and 2) input from music
17:15 banana_ basically a painting program with dancing strokes
17:16 GuidovanPossum oh yeah I did that but using the accelerometers in a phone before
17:16 banana_ the effect would be much like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eT-LPcUKkW8
17:17 banana_ but instead of a dancer it would be a composition of different "visual elements/algoritms" that dance to the beat
17:17 GuidovanPossum I recorded people hula hooping to the music and then used it to control variables and framerate in some fractal formulas and other fx
17:17 banana_ i see :)
17:17 banana_ on github by any chance?
17:18 GuidovanPossum no I'm not, I wrote that in Ruby a few years ago
17:19 banana_ i see
17:19 GuidovanPossum I've been using of to play around with music visualizers though mostly
17:23 banana_ but i'll probably figure out the algorithms which react to wacom variables + music variables, the only thing i can't exactly figure out is how to put them all together
17:23 GuidovanPossum I've got some fun short programs but the one I'm currently working on takes some more work
17:23 GuidovanPossum you probably need a way to send the data through a web socket or port
17:23 banana_ in essence i'd have to create some kind of user interface that can pull all these visual generators at any time, and then control each "brush" after i drew it..
17:23 banana_ basically put each algorithm in its own layer
17:23 banana_ that, i can't figure out
17:24 GuidovanPossum yeah I'd do it as two separate projects
17:24 GuidovanPossum one just setting up the drawing controls and how the brushes will react to separate inputs
17:24 GuidovanPossum and then the other streaming data from the tablet to alter the variables and controls
17:24 banana_ how would that merge different algorithms?
17:24 banana_ say, i have a dancing sphere algorithm
17:24 banana_ and a dancing bear algorithm or something
17:24 banana_ and i'd like to show them both on the same canvas, with control of where they're put etc
17:26 GuidovanPossum sorry I couldn't watch the vid my connection is too slow
17:26 banana_ no problem :)
17:27 GuidovanPossum do you have the music input part done?
17:27 banana_ i don't have anything done :P
17:28 banana_ but before i start to create stuff i'd first like to build a "global" interface in which i can combine stuff
17:30 banana_ pretty much like photoshop
17:30 banana_ layer 1 contains a dancing fish, layer 2 containers some abstract stuff and those 2 layers work additively
17:33 GuidovanPossum I was just watching some videos about the upcoming gfx specs they were talking about stacking and interacting with other layers was going to be a lot easier
17:35 banana_ where is this video?
17:36 banana_ & where can i find a good roadmap for learning open frameworks?
17:36 GuidovanPossum they were adding a brick layer texture to a bunny's fur and then rendering it after
17:36 banana_ currently the documentation is a big list of functions
17:37 GuidovanPossum it was here, but the quality wasn't really that good: https://www.khronos.org/vulkan
17:38 GuidovanPossum want to see a paste of the program I'm working on? it's not that great now but may give you a basic idea
17:39 banana_ sure, what is it about?
17:40 GuidovanPossum it's just a music visualizer that takes a track and outputs a particle field instead of a typical EQ level display
17:40 pizthewiz joined #openframeworks
17:40 banana_ sure, i'd love to!
17:45 GuidovanPossum here it is it's kind of junky but fun:   https://bpaste.net/show/bc393866c86f
17:46 banana_ what kind of visuals does it generate?
17:47 GuidovanPossum I'm just making a bunch of sets of formulas for the fields and then I'm going to write a randomizer to choose them from a set of switch statements and then alpha fade between them
17:47 GuidovanPossum this ones just a bunch of red and green dots
17:48 kritzikratzi banana_: you’re looking for ofFbo
17:48 kritzikratzi you can draw into an fbo, and then use blending functions to combine them and arrange them i 3 space
17:49 kritzikratzi fbo means framebuffer object, it’s a virtual screen. everything after myFbo1.begin() will be drawn into the fbo. then you do myFbo1.end()
17:49 kritzikratzi you do this for all the layers you need, ie myFbo2.begin(); drawYourthing…; myFbo2.end()
17:49 kritzikratzi then you draw all the fbos with myFbo1.draw(posX,posY), myFbo2.draw(posX, posY), etc
17:50 kritzikratzi if you only know photoshop but not opengl blending, then you might find addons such as this handy: https://github.com/Akira-Hayasaka/ofxPSBlend.git
17:51 banana_ oh!!!!
17:51 banana_ amazing :D
17:51 banana_ thanks :D
17:53 GuidovanPossum hi kritz you working on anything fun?
17:54 jvcleave joined #openframeworks
17:55 GuidovanPossum I ran across this after looking for a while and it helped me with figuring out how to get similar outputs across the audio spectrum:   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITU-R_468_noise_weighting
18:01 banana__ joined #openframeworks
18:02 banana__ so basically any addon for openFrameworks can be put inside a ofFbo thing?
18:02 banana__ (or any visual output)
18:05 pizthewiz joined #openframeworks
18:23 banana_ joined #openframeworks
18:27 banana_ i missed everything after "so ofFbx can contain any visual input from any algorithm"
18:27 banana_ in case there was anything
18:34 kritzikratzi banana_: yes and no. fbo is a very low level thing, it comes directly from opengl.
18:34 kritzikratzi there are some things that cause issues on some computers, like drawing an fbo into another fbo while using shaders
18:35 kritzikratzi but yes, basically you can render most addons into the fbo and it should work
18:35 banana_ i see cool :)
18:36 banana_ so basically it provides a way to put 2d stuff in a 3d space
18:36 banana_ So it can interact with 3d stuff
