00:06 openstackgerrit Kevin Tsang proposed a change to stackforge/rally: Fixed merge conflict when refactoring user creation code  https://review.openstack.org/115153
00:07 RainbowBastion boris-42 I committed, then ran git review -R
00:07 boris-42 RainbowBastion one thing is that you should use commit message to describe change
00:07 boris-42 RainbowBastion lemme point you to one great instruction
00:08 boris-42 RainbowBastion https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/GitCommitMessages
00:13 RainbowBastion boris-42 Did you want me to edit my commit message?
00:13 boris-42 RainbowBastion that will be nice
00:13 boris-42 RainbowBastion you can use git commit --amend for that
00:20 openstackgerrit Kevin Tsang proposed a change to stackforge/rally: Moved user creation from /runners/base.py to engine.py within the benchmark folder. \n This will fix the duplication of users when trying to use existing test users while running scenarios.  https://review.openstack.org/115155
00:20 boris-42 RainbowBastion one thing
00:20 boris-42 RainbowBastion make first line of commit message, then empty line and then body
00:20 boris-42 RainbowBastion otherwise it will put everything in first line
00:21 RainbowBastion boris-42 I did try, but it looks like the newline character just got put out to \n instead.
00:21 boris-42 RainbowBastion oh
00:21 boris-42 RainbowBastion instead of "enter" ?
00:22 RainbowBastion boris-42 I've been using git bash to put in all my commit messages, so if I hit enter, it'll just submit the commit message, not make a newline.
00:22 boris-42 RainbowBastion use by default some editor
00:22 boris-42 RainbowBastion in git
00:22 boris-42 RainbowBastion e.g. vim
00:24 boris-42 git config --global core.editor vim
00:24 boris-42 something like that
00:27 dmorita joined #openstack-rally
00:28 RainbowBastion boris-42 Yeah, give me a sec, I need to rewrite my commit message since it's too long apparently.
00:31 yingjun joined #openstack-rally
00:36 RainbowBastion boris-42 http://paste.openstack.org/show/97089/ This was my commit message, but I can't put it into git review because it sees no changes.
00:36 boris-42 RainbowBastion hm
00:36 boris-42 RainbowBastion you should run git commit --amend
00:36 boris-42 RainbowBastion put new commit message and send to review
00:37 RainbowBastion boris-42 That's what I've been trying to do for the past 10 minutes
00:37 boris-42 )
00:37 RainbowBastion boris-42 git commit --amend opens up my text editor
00:37 boris-42 RainbowBastion so git review will see change
00:38 boris-42 RainbowBastion and?
00:38 RainbowBastion boris-42 I edit the commit message in there, and then I save it and close the file
00:38 openstackgerrit Boris Pavlovic proposed a change to stackforge/rally: Add new benchmark type VolumeType  https://review.openstack.org/111935
00:38 RainbowBastion boris-42 Then I type git review -R and it fails
00:38 boris-42 hm
00:38 boris-42 are you using vim?
00:39 RainbowBastion boris-42 No, I'm using Sublime Text.
00:39 boris-42 RainbowBastion hm didn't try with sumblime=)
00:39 RainbowBastion boris-42 I'll try vim now though
00:39 boris-42 RainbowBastion actually git review -R will work if there are chagnes
00:40 boris-42 RainbowBastion you didn't start lines with # ?
00:41 openstackgerrit Kevin Tsang proposed a change to stackforge/rally: Refactored user creation code.  https://review.openstack.org/115155
00:42 RainbowBastion boris-42 Alright, this just in, sublime text apparently fails at putting in commit messages.
00:45 RainbowBastion boris-42 I'm heading home, thanks for all your help today
00:45 boris-42 RainbowBastion nice
00:45 boris-42 RainbowBastion so you'll need to add unit tests (or at least change them)
00:45 boris-42 RainbowBastion otherwise this won't pass gates
00:47 boris-42 RainbowBastion btw
00:47 boris-42 RainbowBastion please don't change Change-ID

12:49 tzabal rook hi, as far as i know, is not presented yet in the html format (the one produced with plot2html), only in cli output
12:50 tzabal rook i dont know if someone is working on that at the moment, but when i will finish with some issues that i have, and i am sure that we get that info in cli, i will try to add it there too for sure

15:45 boris-42 nkhare hi
15:45 boris-42 nkhare so you removed all HMTL files?
15:45 nkhare boris-42, hi. yes
15:45 boris-42 nkhare hm could you explain why?, I mean can we provide just more details?
15:46 boris-42 and some of details without graphs?
15:46 nkhare boris-42, I thought we  agreed on that
15:47 boris-42 nkhare I just didn't understand properly sorry..
15:47 boris-42 nkhare so I thought you have more results
15:47 boris-42 nkhare could you repeat why you are removing old results one more time..
15:48 nkhare boris-42, sure. we said we don't want to kill user browser
15:49 nkhare and to keep things same for all results, I thought of removing old ones as well
15:52 jjmb joined #openstack-rally
15:53 boris-42 nkhare probably we can keep some graphs? that are not killing browsers?
15:54 nkhare boris-42, may be we can. we might get questions why for some results and why not for others
15:54 boris-42 nkhare heh
15:55 boris-42 nkhare okay let's just remove graphs for now

16:02 boris-42 RainbowBastion hi there
16:05 RainbowBastion boris-42 Hi
16:13 boris-42 RainbowBastion so do you have any questions ?
16:13 boris-42 RainbowBastion about unit tests and so on
16:18 RainbowBastion boris-42 The way I understand it is that there are yaml or JSON files that are loaded into engine as configuration parameters and then are executed.
16:18 boris-42 RainbowBastion nope I am speaking about unit tests
16:19 boris-42 RainbowBastion https://github.com/stackforge/rally/tree/master/tests
16:21 marcoemorais joined #openstack-rally
16:23 RainbowBastion boris-42 So comparing the results generated with an expected context file is generally how the unit tests work?
16:23 boris-42 RainbowBastion nope unit tests
16:23 boris-42 RainbowBastion are just plain python unit tests
16:23 boris-42 RainbowBastion they just import modules and run them
16:26 RainbowBastion boris-42 Okay, then everything is checked for assertions along the way of running anything
16:26 RainbowBastion boris-42 Did you need me to work on unit tests?
16:33 AlexF joined #openstack-rally
16:34 boris-42 RainbowBastion you'll need
16:34 boris-42 RainbowBastion https://review.openstack.org/#/c/115155/
16:34 boris-42 RainbowBastion your patch doesn't pass current unit tests
16:35 boris-42 RainbowBastion take a look at "FAILURE"
16:35 boris-42 RainbowBastion you can click on gate-rally-python26
16:41 RainbowBastion boris-42 I know why.  When I recloned/committed the repository, I forgot to git add base.py
16:43 RainbowBastion boris-42 Should I amend my last commit to include base.py?

17:59 lordd_ ok, sorry for the length of that
18:00 lordd_ my point was, to create actual load, I require to set boot scripts so the machines actually do something
18:00 boris-42 lordd_ use paste.openstack.org
18:00 boris-42 lordd_ ah you should talk with tzabal
18:00 boris-42 lordd_ he is doing great efforts in that direction
18:01 lordd_ I was thinking in something related to cloudinit, would be great
18:01 boris-42 lordd_ we are doing stuff
18:01 boris-42 lordd_ that will be used as a base for benchmarks
18:01 boris-42 lordd_ actually you can already use
18:01 lordd_ also, in the same direction, which is something i've been trying to do is create tasks based in workflows
18:01 boris-42 lordd_ https://github.com/stackforge/rally/tree/master/doc/samples/tasks/scenarios/vm
18:01 lordd_ thanks
18:02 lordd_ i.e. simulate a deployment for a webapp+db
18:02 lordd_ do the same steps the user would
18:03 rook lordd_ that is what i have done in vmtasks.py
18:03 lordd_ and increase user count when the first part (glance) and neutron network creation is done
18:04 lordd_ hmm, I will def check that then
18:04 boris-42 lordd_ so doing stuff in VM can be done via VMTask
18:04 lordd_ but I think it would be good to have a couple of workflow examples
18:04 boris-42 lordd_ but tzabal is working on a bit better solution
18:04 rook lordd_ agreed - I have done some cool things with VMTasks.py
18:04 boris-42 lordd_ when we will have framework and a lot of benchmarks related to stuff that is happening incise VMs
18:05 boris-42 rook you need to find time and contribute=)
18:05 rook lordd_ I have also integrated linpack into Rally =)
18:05 boris-42 rook ooOO ^
18:05 rook utilizing the default boot_runcommand_delete =)
18:05 boris-42 rook can you just share that stuff?
18:05 boris-42 rook put on review we will test and merge and so on
18:06 lordd_ I also have something that I'm unsure how to proceed:
18:06 rook lordd_ another (multi-guest) workload was netperf
18:07 lordd_ rook thanks
18:08 rook boris-42 well currently it will depend on the image-prep work tzabal is working on. I built a RHEL7 image w/ linpack installed.
18:08 boris-42 rook ah ok
18:08 boris-42 rook so I need to make more reviews to his patch to speed up process
18:08 rook boris-42 it would simply be a new bash script.
18:08 rook However, we could simply scp the workload to the guest ;)
18:10 boris-42 rook so probably we can make these bash scripts
18:10 boris-42 rook and keep it in tree until tzabal finish his work
18:10 boris-42 rook then we can move them to proper context classes and finish this work?
18:11 boris-42 like baby steps
18:11 shakamunyi joined #openstack-rally
18:11 rook I need to talk more with tzabal, we spoke a couple mornings ago, but I think the linpack work I have done will fit into what he is doing.
18:11 boris-42 rook if it doesn't fit it means that we need to refactor
18:11 boris-42 rook what tzabal is working on
18:12 rook Oh, it will =)... The Multi-guest netperf work I did will not fit.
18:14 lordd_ is there a way to test IOps similar to Linpack?
18:16 rook No clue?
18:16 rook I am sure there is another tool like linpack
18:16 boris-42 rook hehe
18:16 boris-42 rook yep we will need to address that stuff
18:16 boris-42 rook for N VMs
18:16 rook https://gist.github.com/anonymous/b8b3338b30f7c3c8ff35 <-- lordd_ boris-42 the output from running linpack in the guest w/ rally
18:17 boris-42 rook nice
18:17 boris-42 rook can you publish sh script?
18:17 lordd_ rook for the moment I use simple cp /dev/null stuff
18:17 boris-42 rook to doc/task/support/ ?
18:17 rook boris-42: sure
18:17 boris-42 rook thank you
18:17 boris-42 rook such stuff really makes sense
18:17 lordd_ rook looks great!
18:18 lordd_ I always say that there should be a donation system for commits
18:21 lordd_ concerning what I was mentioning before, I would appreciate guidance on how to process this experience:
18:21 lordd_ I created a task that stressed a lot an environment based in Ceph, which had several issues in IO
18:21 lordd_ this caused delays in tasks, specially with cleanup
18:22 lordd_ resulting in zombie machines in the nova db
18:22 lordd_ also a couple in cinder's snapshots
18:22 lordd_ but the machines where properly deleted in the computes
18:23 lordd_ I don't think using again the cleanups will work, as I had to reset the state on one and do mysql updates in the others
18:26 lordd_ btw: this was a preprod environment with dedicated hardware with tons of ram and cpus but bad networking and config
18:26 boris-42 lordd_ btw why not contributing this to user_storeis?
18:26 lordd_ ok, wilco
18:27 boris-42 lordd_ https://github.com/stackforge/rally/tree/master/doc/user_stories here=)
18:27 lordd_ yeah, it was part of the plan

22:54 openstackgerrit Joe Talerico proposed a change to stackforge/rally: Created new single vm workload sample script using linpack  https://review.openstack.org/115425

22:55 rook naw
22:55 boris-42 rook you shouldn't touch change-id

22:57 boris-42 rook I mean full log with results
22:57 boris-42 rook just copy paste it and put to paste.openstack.org
22:57 rook I think the problem is i need to specify the changeid
22:57 boris-42 rook you shouldn't touch change-id
22:58 rook git review -d
22:58 boris-42 rook just don't touch it and it will work=)
22:58 rook something like that
22:58 boris-42 rook I never used that command..
22:58 boris-42 rook it's enough just to keep in commit message required change-id and it will work
22:58 boris-42 you can create even absolutely new cahnge
22:59 boris-42 but if you keep change-id it will be related to some of that chaing on review.openstack.org
22:59 RainbowBastion There's actually a way to automatically attach the change ID to your commit messages
22:59 RainbowBastion So you don't have to manually do it
22:59 boris-42 RainbowBastion it will
22:59 boris-42 RainbowBastion we are speaking about situation when you already have change-id=)
22:59 boris-42 RainbowBastion e.g. don't touch it and it will work=)
23:00 rook The requirements are still different.
23:01 RainbowBastion boris-42 I had to install a script yesterday that did that for me since it didn't do it automatically.
23:01 RainbowBastion boris-42 That's why it took me so long to commit my change yesterday.
