07:06 vaidy-nick boris-42,  can i run the smoke test which i run from rally verify as my task?
07:08 boris-42 vaidy-nick so you would like to run smoke tests via rally?
07:09 vaidy-nick boris-42, yes i was able to run the smoke test using 'rally verify start --regex smoke'
07:10 boris-42 vaidy-nick I think --set smoke will work as well
07:10 vaidy-nick boris-42, can i run this smoke test as my task?? using 'rally task...'??
07:10 boris-42 vaidy-nick ah yes you can
07:10 boris-42 vaidy-nick one sec
07:11 vaidy-nick boris-42, reason is i cannot generate html reports for verify.. but i can do it on task
07:11 vaidy-nick boris-42, :D
07:11 boris-42 vaidy-nick these are tempest related tests https://github.com/stackforge/rally/tree/master/doc/samples/tasks/scenarios/tempest
07:11 boris-42 vaidy-nick but it will run whole set as 1 point on graph
07:12 boris-42 vaidy-nick does that work for you?
07:12 vaidy-nick boris-42, oh!! let me check that
07:12 vaidy-nick boris-42, need to do some tests with that.. will do that and will see if that helps my reqirement
07:12 vaidy-nick boris-42, requirement*
07:13 boris-42 vaidy-nick ok =)
07:13 vaidy-nick boris-42, so you say 'rally task --set smoke *.json' should work
07:13 boris-42 vaidy-nick nope
07:14 boris-42 vaidy-nick use one of this task config https://github.com/stackforge/rally/tree/master/doc/samples/tasks/scenarios/tempest
07:14 vaidy-nick boris-42, got it

08:52 shakamunyi joined #openstack-rally
09:02 lordd_ joined #openstack-rally
09:03 lordd_ Hi debu_, installing tempest for Rally through proxy is quite complicated, as it uses venv
09:04 lordd_ have you tried using environment variables like http_proxy https_proxy?
09:04 lordd_ although it is possible that fails while using pip
09:06 lordd_ I just found three ways to go around this issue: - manual installation for the pip packages on the venv directory
09:07 lordd_ - installing rally and tempest somewhere else and copying its .venv to the one with proxy
09:08 lordd_ - skipping using rally and using directly tempest without virtual environment support
09:08 lordd_ in the last case, you simply install the requirements in your local environment
09:08 yingjun joined #openstack-rally
09:09 debu_ lordd_: i completed install rally. i am trying to use tempest from rally. So i am trying that command "rally-manage tempest install" but it is giving this errror http://paste.openstack.org/show/97649/
09:11 lordd_ yeah, this exact error is caused by going behind a proxy
09:11 lordd_ you will have to use one of those three options
09:12 lordd_ debu_ : although Rally with Tempest would be great, my suggestion is, for the moment use Tempest standalone
09:12 lordd_ it will be easier and you will have a wider control of what tests you would like to apply
09:12 lordd_ + testr is very fast
09:13 debu_ lordd_: ok
09:15 lordd_ otherwise, simply install rally+tempest in an environment without proxy and copy the folder .venv from inside ~/.rally/tempest/for-deployment-UUID/
09:15 lordd_ and copy it into your machine in the similar named but different UUID folder
09:17 debu_ lordd_: is "for-deployment-UUID" is venv which has python site-packages?
09:17 lordd_ debu_: yeah, inside that folder, .venv has the python site-packages that you need
09:18 debu_ lordd_: ok
09:18 lordd_ after copying it, I did a rally tempest install command again
09:18 lordd_ as it found all packages, the installation completed successfully
09:19 debu_ lordd_: ok

11:45 tzabal boris-42 oh nice
11:45 boris-42 tzabal and I'll try to find more time to review your patches
11:45 tzabal boris-42 i will make an update also today
11:45 tzabal boris-42 btw yesterday i found out why ping (wait ping of run_command) was not working on my local test environment
11:46 tzabal boris-42 maybe we can call it a small bug
11:46 tzabal boris-42 one moment to show you
11:47 tzabal https://github.com/stackforge/rally/blob/bd009a5c1c0b34770516589cca5040520c2aea39/rally/benchmark/scenarios/vm/utils.py#L83
11:47 tzabal boris-42 so on BSDs this ping command will fail :/
11:47 tzabal boris-42 because there is not a -w switch
11:48 boris-42 tzabal so hm in MacOS as well
11:48 tzabal boris-42 yes
11:48 boris-42 tzabal and what does this switch?
11:48 tzabal boris-42 in linux it says deadline
11:48 boris-42 1 minute?
11:48 tzabal boris-42 1 sec
11:48 boris-42 ah
11:48 tzabal boris-42 is to get a response immediately
11:49 tzabal boris-42 if the packet received or not in 1 second, this command will stop after 1 sec
11:49 boris-42 tzabal so yep this is bug, if you can fix it I will appreciate
11:49 tzabal boris-42 sure
11:49 tzabal boris-42 i will make something and put up on review

15:58 boris-42 lingxian thanks for patches=)
15:59 lingxian boris-42, sorry, i'm on on business these days.
15:59 boris-42 lingxian no worries
15:59 boris-42 lingxian so if you would like we can make this patch for volume types
16:00 lingxian boris-42, i'll try my best to complete the volume command, so i'm here to make sure what i should do next.
16:00 boris-42 lingxian so you should make small patch
16:00 boris-42 lingxian that adds new command like (flavor one)
16:01 lingxian boris-42, 'volume types' you mean here, in my understanding, is 'rally show volumes' or 'rally show volume-types'?
16:01 boris-42 lingxian and call it in that script (that is called)
16:01 boris-42 rally show volume-types
16:01 lingxian boris-42, but I need volume when creating snapshot
16:02 lingxian boris-42, volume?volume-types? what's the difference?
16:03 boris-42 lingxian volumes are volumes
16:03 boris-42 lingxian and volume-types are volume types
16:04 boris-42 2 different things
16:04 boris-42 https://github.com/openstack/python-cinderclient/blob/master/cinderclient/v2/volume_types.py
16:04 boris-42 https://github.com/openstack/python-cinderclient/blob/master/cinderclient/v2/volumes.py
16:04 lingxian boris-42, I test snapshot creation, which need a 'volume-id' arg. thanks to your 'VolumeTypeResourceType' patch, I can make it using 'volume-name', but what's the relationship with 'volume-types'?
16:05 boris-42 lingxian I thought that you need volume types lol
16:06 boris-42 lingxian so heh
16:06 lingxian boris-42, maybe there is something wrong
16:06 boris-42 lingxian yep you don't need volume-types at all
16:06 boris-42 lingxian you need to create volumes in context
16:06 boris-42 lingxian and then use it in your benchmark
16:06 lingxian boris-42, right
16:07 boris-42 lingxian so it's quite close to the code that we have for images
16:07 lingxian boris-42, use volume for snapshot creation
16:07 lingxian boris-42, a new context^
16:07 boris-42 lingxian nope context, will just create volume for every tenant
16:08 boris-42 lingxian and at the end of benchmarking delete it
16:09 boris-42 lingxian so you need something really similar to this
16:09 boris-42 lingxian https://github.com/stackforge/rally/blob/master/rally/benchmark/context/images.py
16:09 boris-42 lingxian and then you can get in your benchmark volume_Id
16:09 boris-42 lingxian that will work everywhere
16:10 lingxian boris-42, and maybe a VolumeResourceType is also useful.
16:12 lingxian boris-42, so what's the purpose of 'VolumeTypeResourceType'?
16:18 lingxian boris-42, sorry if I don't make myself understood.

18:52 boris-42 RainbowBastion https://github.com/stackforge/rally/blob/master/tests/benchmark/test_engine.py#L234-L237
18:52 boris-42 RainbowBastion this is the real reason why they fail
18:53 boris-42 RainbowBastion these tests should be just removed and rewritten from scratch
18:53 boris-42 RainbowBastion cause you change code
18:53 boris-42 RainbowBastion that they are testing
18:57 RainbowBastion boris-42 So delete just the @mock.patch parts or the functions below as well?
18:58 boris-42 RainbowBastion you should replace these test with something reasonable
18:58 boris-42 RainbowBastion to make a good coverage
18:58 boris-42 RainbowBastion e.g. call BenchmarkEngine.run() with proper values, and with proper mocking()
18:59 RainbowBastion boris-42 I'll get started on that after lunch
19:00 boris-42 RainbowBastion so some unit test cleanup is required
