12:10 rook boris-42: does Rally have a SDK i can plug into, or do I have to currently script things with bash around the rally executable?
12:10 rook also, happy monday!
12:10 boris-42 rook hi there
12:11 boris-42 rook hm could you elaborate what are you trying to do?)
12:12 rook Sure... I want to start with a known working # of guest to launch, and increase the # of guests launched in parallel -- to determine the maximum # of guest that can be launched. My plan was to script this within Bash, and loop with create the JSON, and modify the # of guest launched concurrently, capture the output and check for 100% success...
12:13 rook However, I wanted to avoid doing this in bash, and do it in python if possible
12:13 rook hope that made sense.
12:14 boris-42 rook we have special loader generator for that
12:15 boris-42 https://review.openstack.org/#/c/94806/
12:15 boris-42 rook ^ it sill work in progress
12:17 boris-42 rook does that make sense for you?
12:19 rook Yes
12:19 boris-42 rook ya so we are eating for new patches from olkonami =)
12:20 rook Yup - i see that. For the time being ill just script around it
12:20 openstackgerrit Boris Pavlovic proposed a change to stackforge/rally: Add feature_request mechanism  https://review.openstack.org/116403

15:12 lordd_ hi boris-42
15:12 boris-42 lordd_ take a look at this https://review.openstack.org/#/c/116403/5
15:12 lordd_ developer as a service?
15:13 lordd_ :)
15:13 lordd_ it makes sense, as it would help cover more use cases
15:14 lordd_ after all, openstack can be a very heterogeneous deployment
15:15 lordd_ boris-42 this would only be to get feedback
15:15 lordd_ or also to have changes/features proposals?
15:15 openstackgerrit Boris Pavlovic proposed a change to stackforge/rally: Testing crap  https://review.openstack.org/116603
15:16 boris-42 lordd_ https://review.openstack.org/#/c/116403/5/doc/feature_request/README.rst
15:16 boris-42 lordd_ so to request a new feature from rally team
15:16 boris-42 lordd_ e.g. if you have some issues with usage but don't have enough time to find the way to implement it or even to think about how it can be implemented
15:17 openstackgerrit Boris Pavlovic proposed a change to stackforge/rally: Testing crap  https://review.openstack.org/116603
15:17 lordd_ this can be very helpful for users but also very cumbersome for you
15:18 lordd_ sometimes people can be very tiresome about their requests, in any case I think for me, this will be great
15:20 openstackgerrit Boris Pavlovic proposed a change to stackforge/rally: Add feature_request mechanism  https://review.openstack.org/116403
15:20 boris-42 lordd_ hm, there is no time request
15:21 boris-42 lordd_ if you have time request, then you can fork and do anything that you would like
15:21 boris-42 lordd_ I want make fast crap
15:21 boris-42 want/won't/
15:21 boris-42 lordd_ as I won't accept patches that are crap, just because somebody don't have enough time to wait fro proper solution
15:21 boris-42 lordd_ feature_request are done just to get feedback from users
15:22 boris-42 lordd_ e.g. rally doesn't do something that it should/must do
15:22 boris-42 lordd_ so rally team will take care that at some point this thing will be implemetnted
15:23 lordd_ boris-42 in any case this sounds great, something that should be in every openstack project
15:23 lordd_ boris-42 the only problem is maintaining when there are a lot of petitions
15:23 boris-42 lordd_ this will be my daily job
15:24 boris-42 lordd_ to help to keep everything in reable form
15:24 boris-42 lordd_ join different proposals
15:24 boris-42 lordd_ and so on
15:25 lordd_ boris-42 in any case, we can keep this method now that the user-base is manageable and when it grows get a different method
15:25 lordd_ or deprecate it
15:25 boris-42 lordd_ i am not sure that we will deprecate this
15:25 boris-42 lordd_ this should just evolve
15:26 boris-42 lordd_ we can split proposals in different dirs
15:29 lordd_ boris-42 in any case, for now I think this is a good idea
15:29 lordd_ boris-42 in fact, can I haz task groups?
15:29 lordd_ haha
15:29 boris-42 lordd_ ?)
15:30 lordd_ boris-42 don't worry, this was a feature idea that came out once, but doesn't make sense by now
15:30 openstackgerrit Boris Pavlovic proposed a change to stackforge/rally: Testing crap  https://review.openstack.org/116603

18:28 RainbowBastion boris-42 Just to clarify, I need to go through the git checkout master, git remote update, git pull, git checkout -, and git rebase -i master before I do git review -R, right?

18:35 penguinRaider joined #openstack-rally
18:36 RainbowBastion boris-42 Whenever I run git review, I get failures from an old version of my code, which don't show up in tox, which was why I asked.
18:37 RainbowBastion boris-42 I fixed the errors, but git review only checks the old version for some reason.
18:42 RainbowBastion boris-42 It doesn't even accept the amended commit message that we wrote last week.
18:43 boris-42 RainbowBastion hm
18:43 boris-42 RainbowBastion one sec
18:51 RaginBaj_ joined #openstack-rally
18:54 boris-42 RainbowBastion so hm
18:55 boris-42 RainbowBastion git review just sends patches on review
18:55 boris-42 RainbowBastion so you would like to say that old version is send to review?
18:57 RainbowBastion boris-42 That is what appears to be happening, yes.  Any git commands I can try to fix this?
18:57 boris-42 RainbowBastion so
18:58 boris-42 RainbowBastion "git review" sends on review exactly what you have in your branch
18:58 boris-42 RainbowBastion it means that for some reasons changes that you made are not in some of commits in branch that you are trying to send on review
19:01 RainbowBastion boris-42 I tried git commit -a --amend and then tried git review -R.  Did I miss a step?
19:02 boris-42 RainbowBastion hm
19:02 boris-42 RainbowBastion could you paste.openstack.org output of "git show"
19:06 RainbowBastion boris-42 http://paste.openstack.org/show/100062/
19:06 boris-42 RainbowBastion and "git status"
19:08 RainbowBastion boris-42 http://paste.openstack.org/show/100063/
19:08 RainbowBastion boris-42 Actually, git show does show the changes made.
19:08 boris-42 RainbowBastion and you would like to sy that if you run "git review "
19:08 boris-42 RainbowBastion that it will put something different
19:09 boris-42 RainbowBastion could you send output of "git review -R"
19:15 RainbowBastion boris-42 http://paste.openstack.org/show/100065/ This is the output of git review -R
19:15 boris-42 RainbowBastion error: failed to push some refs to 'ssh://kevtsang@review.openstack.org:29418/stackforge/rally.git'
19:15 boris-42 RainbowBastion so and these changes are not on review?
19:15 boris-42 RainbowBastion are you sure?
19:16 RainbowBastion boris-42 http://paste.openstack.org/show/100064/ This is the output of the git show command.
19:16 RainbowBastion boris-42 I didn't paste the full output last time, sorry, the above is the full output showing all my changes.
19:17 RainbowBastion boris-42 It failed to submit the changes to review because I submitted a minor change half an hour ago and I pushed that up to git review.
19:17 RainbowBastion boris-42 It's still returning errors that I already fixed.
19:20 RainbowBastion boris-42 For example, in the git show paste, on line 149, I removed "a.args" and replaced it with real tests within Rally, but it's still complaining that it's finding "a", and it doesn't exist.
19:31 boris-42 RainbowBastion can you run
19:31 boris-42 RainbowBastion git commit --amend
19:31 boris-42 RainbowBastion change commit message
19:31 boris-42 RainbowBastion and re-run-review

23:05 RainbowBastion boris-42 Hi, I ran into some git problems and accidentally overwrote my repository.
23:05 boris-42 RainbowBastion oh that sometimes happens
23:05 RainbowBastion boris-42 I just finished the changes and will push up for submit now
23:05 boris-42 RainbowBastion great and I have a lot of success
23:05 openstackgerrit Kevin Tsang proposed a change to stackforge/rally: Moved context creation to benchmark.engine  https://review.openstack.org/116750
23:05 boris-42 RainbowBastion on the rest part
23:06 RainbowBastion boris-42 That's great!
23:06 boris-42 RainbowBastion btw you said that you are making documentation
23:06 boris-42 RainbowBastion for benchmarks
23:06 boris-42 RainbowBastion you can help with this a lot as well
23:06 boris-42 RainbowBastion lemme try to explain
23:06 boris-42 RainbowBastion did you see rally info command?
23:10 RainbowBastion boris-42 I made a list of what I thought the json files would do in the docs/l
23:11 boris-42 RainbowBastion so and in rally we have stuff called "rally info "
23:11 boris-42 RainbowBastion as a result you won't need documentation
23:11 RainbowBastion boris-42 and I made a list of all the tempest python files that started with test with descriptions
23:12 RainbowBastion boris-42 So "rally info " is a command line helper that explains everything?
23:12 boris-42 RainbowBastion yep
23:12 boris-42 RainbowBastion it will list all benchmarks
23:12 boris-42 RainbowBastion list a benchemarks in groups
23:13 boris-42 RainbowBastion list detailed info about every benchmark scenarios/context/runner or deployment
23:13 boris-42 RainbowBastion so if you would like to join this initiative you'll be very welocme
23:14 boris-42 RainbowBastion e.g. you can help with improving "rally info" command or improving doc strings
23:14 boris-42 or both
23:15 RainbowBastion boris-42 Well anyways, I made a huge table of the JSON files in rally/doc/samples/tasks/scenarios.  I'll cross reference what I wrote with the rally info command and I'll see if I can add anything.
23:16 RainbowBastion boris-42 Was the "rally info" command added recently?
23:16 boris-42 RainbowBastion ya
23:16 RainbowBastion boris-42 Ok, I'll reinstall rally
23:16 boris-42 RainbowBastion https://github.com/stackforge/rally/commit/c0874b26672f6f8e792bc592936f7e1ca07e82b5
23:16 boris-42 RainbowBastion 6 days ago
23:19 RainbowBastion boris-42 Just found out why some errors are appearing.  Found this from the install rally instructions: "Please Note: Running Rally on OSX is not advised as some pip dependencies will fail to install."
23:20 boris-42 RainbowBastion ya
23:20 boris-42 RainbowBastion that is because of glance client mostly
23:20 boris-42 RainbowBastion in my case
23:25 RainbowBastion boris-42 So "rally info" crashed on my OSX box
23:25 boris-42 lol
23:25 RainbowBastion boris-42 Should I run it on windows to see if it works better?
23:25 boris-42 how that happend?)
23:25 boris-42 RainbowBastion lol
23:25 boris-42 RainbowBastion does rally works at windows at all??
23:26 RainbowBastion boris-42 I can give it a shot, lol
23:26 RainbowBastion http://paste.openstack.org/show/100167/ Error message from OSX box
23:27 RainbowBastion boris-42 my guess is that I'm missing some dependencies
23:27 boris-42 RainbowBastion nope
23:27 boris-42 RainbowBastion it's not because of INFO
23:27 boris-42 RainbowBastion you were using very old rally
23:27 boris-42 RainbowBastion to resolve this you'll need to remove 2 directories in rally repo
23:28 boris-42 RainbowBastion one ends with .egg
23:28 boris-42 RainbowBastion and another one is build
23:28 boris-42 RainbowBastion and re run setup
