06:23 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] shihai1991 : Hi, guys. I have a doubt. If the cloud's deal operation is async operation, rally send a request to cloud and the cloud could not deal the request immediately. the action time is not accuracy. How can we do with this condition?
06:24 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] shihai1991 : Do we need add os-profiler in our module?
06:25 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] shihai1991 : Do we have any other non-invasive method?

09:41 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : @shihai1991 hi. We have special wait_for method, which polls resources and checks that they are in the right(finished) states. Multiple get calls may sound redundant, but there is no other way to do this task
09:43 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : osprofiler is a good tool, but unfortunately it is not integrated with a big part of openstack services and can be disabled via config, so it cannot be a way by default
09:44 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : But in general, we should integrate osprofiler with rally:)
10:07 yuli_s Hello
10:07 yuli_s how to install rally UI ?
10:07 yuli_s (I am running rally on a separate computer from devstack)

11:02 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] shihai1991 : @andreykurilin thanks. especially In cascading  architecture, rally can not calculate the accurate time of operation.
11:03 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : @yuli_s: if you are talking about web-ui, we do not have it yet. if you need just to access to rally results and generate reports, you can change connection option https://github.com/openstack/rally/blob/0.7.0/etc/rally/rally.conf.sample#L576 to match remote db server
11:06 rdas joined #openstack-rally
11:06 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : yuli_s: about saving results of gates.  It should not be a hard task, but some work is required. For example, we should create deployment with different names each time (put job name and change-id for better identification), save only results from merge queue and etc...
11:07 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : yuli_s: if you really interested in it, we can create some task at our trello board and list there all small-subtask that should be done
11:08 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : PS: also, we should think about how to process database migrations
11:10 yuli_s andreykurilin, I was talking about web ui
11:10 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : yuli_s: unfortunatelly, we do not have it :( just cli
11:11 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : I don't have enough human-resources to finish Rally as a Service :(
11:13 yuli_s andreykurilin, I understand regarding cli
11:14 yuli_s but basic functionality as a service is supported ? for example can list tasks using API ?
11:16 andreykurilin yuli_s: you can use https://github.com/openstack/rally/blob/master/rally/api.py#L934 class. Actually it is used by CLI. but it is not restful, so it will just initialized rally to access to specified database and that you will able to list all resources, built reports and etc

11:26 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : @shihai1991 any alternative to the way which rally uses for checking resources? OpenStack doesn't provide a native solution :(
11:28 yuli_s andreykurilin, thanks !
11:29 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : yuli_s: we are working now on improving our python api and we will add API docs to rally.readthedocs.org  soon.

13:21 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : @shihai1991: sure, but presence of log doesn't mean that db record is updated. Also, we don't have unified way to read logs from different nodes of cluster(different distributions of OpenStack has different security policy and etc). And we can't re-read logs each microsecond, since it will create a huge flood truffic, so some iterval between re-reads is required. In t
13:21 rallydev-bot his case parsing logs doesn't give more accurate timestamps.
13:22 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : Btw, please note that fromat of logs is configurable thing :( configurable per project...
13:42 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] fnzv : Hello,
13:42 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] fnzv : Is it possible to run Rally tasks without using the Admin user of an Openstack Cloud?
13:42 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] fnzv : I found this post: https://bugs.launchpad.net/rally/+bug/1578293 but seems abandoned
13:42 openstack Launchpad bug 1578293 in Rally "Rally requires admin credentials to run tasks" [Undecided,In progress] - Assigned to Zack Feldstein (zfeldstein)
13:46 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : @fnzv hi! unfortunately no. after holidays @tohin will start working on validation refactoring stuff. it is required step to allow to use rally without admin-users.
13:54 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] fnzv : Thank you Andrey, i have another question.
13:54 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] fnzv : From your RoadMap i see:  "Rally must be absolutelly safe to use against proudction clouds."
13:55 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] fnzv : So since now i assume there isn't a safe way to run Rally tasks on a production enviroment?
13:55 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] fnzv :
13:57 sskripnick left #openstack-rally
13:57 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : @fnzv: it is safe enough, but not ideal :) rally has a strong cleanup mechanism which removes all temporary resources, BUT, in case if someone kills rally process, cleanup will not be executed. we are working on improving cleanups. All temporary resources have pseudo-random names, which include rally task uuid and in near future we will add a mechanism to force cleanu
13:57 rallydev-bot p for partial task
14:05 kiseok7 joined #openstack-rally
14:21 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] fnzv : Ah Okk now makes sense, Do you know any use cases in production of automated rally benchmarking with integrated alerting(for example json sent to Elasticsearch, parsing with icinga..)? Now i'm just running some tasks costantly (via crontab) and generating html reports
14:24 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : I don't know any stories about automated alerting systems:( but it is an interesting task. PS: If you already have some experience, please share it here - https://github.com/openstack/rally/tree/master/doc/user_stories
14:25 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : PS: I know some guys who are interested in writing export plugin to elasticsearch, but unfortunately they don't have enough time for implementation.

14:35 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] andreykurilin : @fnzv: btw, maybe YOU want to contribute to rally and add elasticsearch native plugin?:)
14:37 oanufrii joined #openstack-rally
14:42 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] fnzv : I never wrote an Elasticsearch plugin but i have some experience with it,  you can simply use a log shipper (filebeat,logstash..) and send .json output to elastic.. since it is already a json file elasticsearch will parse and index it
14:50 rallydev-bot [From Gitter] shihai1991 : @andreykurilin If rally have the ability to choose the type of db, maybe we could parse the data which created by osprofiler.
