03:45 josephwb you there jimallman?
03:45 jimallman yes, hi
03:46 josephwb of course you are!
03:46 jimallman what has become of my life?
03:46 josephwb your comment earlier about invalid ingroup specification: i don't know why you thought that...
03:46 josephwb seems fine to me
03:47 jimallman because the code seems to be looking for a proper Badgerfish setup, like
03:47 jimallman “^ot:inGroupClade”: { “$”: “blah” }
03:47 josephwb right. but i think the example(s) I sent had those
03:47 jimallman but all I’m building in the curation app is “^ot:inGroupClade”: “blah”
03:48 josephwb oh…
03:48 josephwb hmm.
03:48 jimallman no inner “$” property, so how do it know?
03:48 josephwb i see an inner "$"
03:48 jimallman maybe JadeTree is fixing up my funky json?
03:48 jimallman hm… now i must look again
03:48 josephwb bad tree: {"@datatype": "xsd:string", "@property": "ot:inGroupClade", "@xsi:type": "nex:LiteralMeta", "$": "node2"}
03:49 josephwb i think you spin fine json
03:49 josephwb *but what do i know?*
03:49 jimallman i’m looking at the nexson on github, which just has   "^ot:inGroupClade": "node2",
03:50 jimallman ah, i’m not seeing the modified fetch (different version/flavor of nexson!)
03:51 josephwb i don't see "^ot:inGroupClade" at all, but do see "ot:inGroupClade"
03:51 jimallman it’s stored in github as Nexson 1.2.1
03:51 jimallman i’m betting you’re looking at a different Nexson version, as retrieved for treemachine
03:51 josephwb yes,  i think i saw that in some link you posted earlier, but not in anything i actually download
03:51 jimallman so you’re seeing proper Badgerfish, and i’m seeing the streamlined version we use for curation app.
03:52 josephwb think so
03:52 jimallman so this is all a giant red herring. which is good, except that i’m reviewing the wrong Nexson and might be missing the smoking gun.
03:52 jimallman lazy metaphors, it must be late.
03:53 josephwb dude, metaphors is your thing.
03:53 josephwb i'll let a lazy one slide. but don't think of mixing them!
03:53 * jimallman is checking out the nexsa from your earlier email...
03:53 josephwb okay, so this does not seem to be the problem; good to know not to pursue that further.
03:54 jimallman smoked herring would be mixed, but still somehow correct
03:54 josephwb no, don't bother; i just wanted to make sure i wasn't crazy that the ingroup thingy was not the culprit
03:56 josephwb amazing that a simple 6-taxon tree can garner a 17,000+ character nexson
03:56 josephwb i wish i could read it more fluently
03:57 jimallman yeah, this is dense.
03:57 josephwb probably something obvious
03:57 jimallman definitely benefits from a syntax-highlighting (JSON-aware) editor, and probably from sensible formatting.
03:57 jimallman have you tried opening them in Chrome? nice presentation there.
03:57 josephwb right
03:57 josephwb no, have not done that
03:58 josephwb will do
03:59 jimallman i stand corrected. it screws up with a local file, but works nicely with a remote/network file. must be a mimetype thang.
03:59 jimallman i even renamed as ot_194.bad.json  , but no dice
03:59 josephwb yeah, see the same here
04:01 josephwb ok, i am sick of this. will conquer it tomorrow.
04:01 josephwb night night
04:01 jimallman one sec!  so here’s a funny trick. rename these files as .json, then go to the directory with these JSON files
04:01 jimallman run $ python -m SimpleHTTPServer 9999
04:01 jimallman then do this in your web browser:    http://localhost:9999/ot_194.bad.json
04:01 jimallman and you should see nice formatting and syntax coloring
04:02 jimallman try it tomorrow, it’s very handy
04:02 jimallman gnite
04:02 josephwb hmm. not working for me
04:02 josephwb need to install a plugin?
04:03 josephwb (looks like plain text)
04:03 josephwb still
04:03 jimallman hm, files were renamed with .json extension?
04:03 jimallman that oughta do it
04:03 josephwb yerp
04:04 pmidford2 joined #opentreeoflife
04:04 josephwb but i have text editors that can do that anyway
04:04 jimallman i’ll bet you’re right, i must have an extension that’s doing this.
04:05 josephwb i don't use chrome, so probably
04:05 josephwb okay, really going now
04:05 josephwb 8-)
