16:47 kcranstn jimallman?
16:47 jimallman hi kcranstn!
16:47 kcranstn question about collection names / ids
16:48 jimallman have you read my response? https://github.com/OpenTreeOfLife/opentree/issues/616#issuecomment-75580033
16:48 kcranstn if we use names (similar to how github names repos), then each collection must have a globally unique name (not simply unique for the curator)
16:48 kcranstn yes, just read it
16:48 jimallman ok
16:48 jimallman re: uniqueness, i thought the combination of username/collection would be unique
16:49 jimallman similar to ‘web2py/web2py’ versus ‘ctdegroot/web2py’
16:49 kcranstn ah, yes, I see the username in the url
16:50 kcranstn trying to think through collaboration
16:50 kcranstn can jimallman add the kcranston/birdtrees collection to his list of collections?
16:51 jimallman good question! you’re right, i can’t assume “my” collections are strictly those owned by me
16:51 jimallman hm, perhaps any collection for which i’m a contributor would appear in my list.
16:51 jimallman but then, can i “star” or otherwise show interest in a collection before i actually work with it?
16:51 jimallman seems like  desirable feature.
16:52 kcranstn the first set of collections we are going to create are the tree lists for synthesis (which many people might contribute to)
16:53 jimallman right, obviously not an edge case
16:53 mtholder joined #opentreeoflife
16:54 jimallman maybe we can store an arbitrary list of “collections of interest” in /username/following
16:54 jimallman this would also be a fast way to store collections i’m contributing to, until we have a proper index
16:56 * jimallman is grabbing coffee, back in a minute
16:57 kcranstn how was amsterdam, mtholder?
17:00 jimallman story time!
17:04 jimallman kcranstn: despite my desire for the Simplest Thing That Could Possibly Work, mtholder and jar pointed out the need to manage concurrency (simultaneous edits) for collections. so i’m planning on expanding peyotl to handle collections.
17:04 kcranstn ok
17:05 jimallman i’ll put up a roadmap of proposed changes shortly for mtholder’s review, to make sure i’m not doing violence to peyotl’s design.
17:13 mtholder sorry. offline but not logged out. Amsterdam was great.
17:14 mtholder lots of windmills and rembrandt paintings.
17:14 mtholder and it was good to see Rutger.
17:14 kcranstn I get to see him in a couple of weeks
