14:03 kcranstn when was the last time we deployed?
14:04 kcranstn this PR from 24 days ago and not on production yet: https://github.com/OpenTreeOfLife/opentree/pull/679
14:05 kcranstn (welcome back from vacation, BTW jar286 )
14:16 jar286 kcranstn, hi

14:43 kcranstn did anyone see that question about the last time we deployed?
14:44 jar286 I saw it… can deploy any time, at cost of blowing away any open curation sessions
14:48 kcranstn Sounds like we need a way to notify people in advance of such work
14:49 jar286 we’ve tried to let people on the opentreeoflife list know about our routine downtime thursday afternoons… that’s been the mechanism so far. but maybe need more
14:49 jar286 there was talk recently of setting up an announcements list
14:51 kcranstn I can set that up.
14:51 kcranstn I still hate to suddenly blow up someone’ curation session
14:51 jimallman we have a few safety measures for this, including an advance notice that will block new curation without killing the old ones.
14:52 jar286 it’s possible to look at the logs to see if anyone’s at work.
15:03 kcranstn ah, I didn’t know about the advance notice
15:03 kcranstn or, didn’t remember ;)
15:03 kcranstn ok, let’s plan for thursday after PR review
15:04 jar286 the usual time for deployment is 3:30

21:19 jar286 jimallman, https://groups.google.com/d/msg/neo4j/BNOdOChrEKI/ATYORhBSBAAJ
21:20 jar286 this is driving me nuts.  I have no workaround - other than not setting the hostname at all. but if there’s no hostname, the ‘sudo’ command complains every time it’s run.
21:21 jar286 which I guess is better than not being able to run neo4j at all.
21:26 jar286 maybe ‘hostname’ is the wrong command for setting the host name
21:33 jar286 http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/set-hostname.html
21:35 jar286 doesn’t work
21:37 jimallman agreed, complaining sudo is the lesser or evils (and maybe something we can suppress)
21:38 jimallman possibly helpful? http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/set-hostname.html
21:38 jar286 AWS documentation on how to change host name does not work.
21:38 jar286 see above
21:39 jar286 maybe the debian EC2 image is different from other EC2 gnu/linux images
21:50 jar286 x
21:50 jar286 interesting… if I reset the hostname back to the original value, neo4j starts working again… sudo hostname ip-172-30-0-113
22:25 jar286 when it rains it pours. 2 ways to fix: (1) set webserver.address to 0.0.0.0 (2) edit /etc/hosts so that the hostname is listed as an alias for localhost
22:35 jimallman 0.0.0.0 seems too permissive, but i can’t point to any particular threat.
22:37 jimallman i like it though, as long as risks can be managed using firewall, etc.
22:39 jimallman jar286: ^
23:41 jar286 I’m adding hacks to as-admin.sh to set the host name
23:41 jar286 which is tricky because it goes in 3 different places
