05:51 szabgab addy, View/Style ?
05:51 addy none of the default ones are good enough
05:52 addy i want to make my own
05:53 * szabgab is looking up docs to see if it is explained
05:53 alanhaggai Hi Gabor. :-)
05:54 szabgab addy, perldoc Padre and look for styles
05:54 garu wow, you guys seriously renamed all "plugin" occurrences to "plug-in"? what did I miss?
05:54 szabgab alanhaggai, hi!
05:55 alanhaggai Can we have the command prompt hidden in Windows for Padre in the default installation?
05:55 szabgab alanhaggai, it is AFAK already
05:55 alanhaggai I tried: http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/ScriptCenter/en-us/8bbed56f-a7aa-491f-a296-687dd96098a3 and was able to hide it.
05:56 szabgab which version have you tried ?
05:56 alanhaggai The birthday version, I think.
05:58 szabgab that's way too old
05:58 szabgab try 0.50, it was already fixed there
05:59 alanhaggai Nice to know that.

07:00 Sewi szabgab: great!
07:01 Sewi But I wondered that we don't have a Perl6 menu :-)
07:01 szabgab I have to figure out how to make a video where the text is actually readable
07:01 awnstudio szabgab, looks awesome
07:01 Sewi It is.
07:01 awnstudio better than EPIC and Komodos context help :)
07:02 awnstudio EPIC doesnt have the shortcut or the awareness (you have to type in the function and search
07:02 awnstudio Komodo has awareness but its slow and doesnt support variables
07:03 awnstudio though komodo has a go-to-definition command where it actually finds the module and opens it, ..., but padre still kicks ass
07:04 awnstudio does padre have a ubuntu package yet?
07:04 Sewi yes, but Padre 0.42
07:07 awnstudio ah
07:19 szabgab addy, have you managed with the sytle ?

09:45 szabgab_mib where are the people from .au when I would like to know how was the Padre talk on OSDC ?
09:52 Sewi AliasSo, in about 36 hours I have to give my Padre talk at OSDC and I haven't slept in 36 hours and I've got 1 slide and a collection of screen shots. This is somewhat troubling. Especially since a well written talk consumes around 1 hour of work for each minute of talk. And it's a 60minute talk
09:53 Sewi :-)
09:54 Getty Sewi: "Maedchen" :-P
09:56 Sewi Getty: :-)
09:57 szabgab_mib there were some tweets about his talk but I have not found anything on the responses

11:03 szabgab_mib thats' cool
11:03 wiredfutureman thanks
11:04 szabgab_mib so wiredfutureman how can I create a screencast on linux that will be actually readable on youtube ?
11:05 wiredfutureman I've heard of such magic, yes
11:05 wiredfutureman let me dig out some info for you
11:05 wiredfutureman what are you using at the moment?
11:06 szabgab_mib I used recordmydesktop   which created an .ogv file
11:06 szabgab_mib and then some other command I don't remember to turn in into an avi file
11:07 szabgab_mib which was about 30% smaller
11:07 szabgab_mib and then uploaded that

11:07 zamolxes szabgab++ # great screencast :)
11:07 szabgab_mib and I actuall captures only a small part of my screen where the editor was
11:08 szabgab_mib zamolxes: thanks
11:08 Sewi szabgab:mencoder -idx out.ogv -ovc lavc -oac mp3lame -o out.avi
11:09 Sewi (this is what you wrote yesterday)
11:09 szabgab_mib yes, that was it
11:09 zamolxes adivce: keep your mike a little farther away
11:09 szabgab_mib when viewing either the ogv or the avi file the text was still readable
11:09 zamolxes there was some barely noticable huffing and pufffing :)
11:10 szabgab_mib zamolxes: I was trying but it was attached to my head :-)
11:10 zamolxes ah, just bend the mike arm a bit outwards
11:11 szabgab_mib I'll try that next time
11:11 wiredfutureman there are two programs which I've heard good things about but never used myself: Wink and pyvnc2swf
11:12 wiredfutureman both output to SWF which makes for quick youtubing :)
11:12 zamolxes well anyway, the screencast totally convinced me,  i'll start using it from the premise i'll probably hate it, but will be careful to document any hate :)
11:12 zamolxes we all use vim exclusively here since forever, we know all the tricks :)
11:12 wiredfutureman wink is more aimed at screencasters and how-to gurus, whereas pyvnc2swf takes a broader approach
11:13 szabgab_mib zamolxes: I just had a chat with someone who is also a vim user but he could convince some java coworkers to start using Perl when he installed Padre for them
11:14 zamolxes heh, didn't that scare you? :p
11:14 Sewi zamolxes: There is a Vi Plugin for Padre...
11:14 wiredfutureman there's a nice little post about mencoder conversion for ogg'd output (ie recordmydesktop)  http://www.g-loaded.eu/2009/04/12/creating-screencasts-under-linux/
11:14 szabgab_mib zamolxes: scare ? why would it?
11:14 zamolxes Sewi: i know, i'll surely use it
11:15 Sewi wiredfutureman: Padre also has a HTML and CSS plugin... :-)
11:15 szabgab_mib I don't think the hard core vim users can give up their speed of editing
11:15 zamolxes szabgab_mib: joking. Java/C# people rely on autocompletion to generate/use long identifiers. I hate that :)
11:15 wiredfutureman Sewi: padre looks pretty cool :)
11:15 szabgab_mib I know, I can still type faster in vim than in Padre
11:16 wiredfutureman here's a quick post on the best HQ youtube conversion settings: http://www.squidoo.com/youtubehd
11:16 zamolxes (for instance I  wrote a hugeass C# app in 2005, targeted on pocketPC without knowing C# or reading any docs :) visual studio to rescue
11:16 wiredfutureman hope this helps :)

11:17 zamolxes well anyway
11:17 szabgab_mib zamolxes: and there are tons of people writing perl code without knowing much of the language
11:18 zamolxes szabgab_mib: yea, like all my sysadmin colleagues :)

18:07 dapatrick If so, I'm encountering some errant behavior running trunk.
18:08 dapatrick Wait, nm.
18:08 dapatrick I can't accurately describe what I'm seeing just yet.
18:10 rindolf Does Padre have different colour schemes?
18:10 rindolf That I can use a colour for regular text rather than the default intrusive blue.

18:28 rindolf Sewi: OK.
18:28 rindolf Sewi: how?
18:32 Sewi rindolf: This is my problem - I don't know. :-(

18:34 Sewi Next, look what is called to change the color.
