07:53 tsee Not much happening on my side. I'm sick.
08:01 szabgab tsee, feel better
08:01 I have turned off the translation report generation in the commit hook a it was very resource intensive, I'll have to fine tune it so it will only run when one of the translation files has actually changed and will only run on that file

08:53 tsee Woah. I just tried to "sudo cpan Padre" on a rather fresh install of ubuntu 9.10
08:53 01-load.t managed to crash my system.
08:53 By consuming all memory.
08:53 waxhead tsee, lots of dependancies?
08:53 that's interesting..
08:55 tsee Yeah. I had installed "padre" from the package manager before.
08:56 Just to see how it feels to have a padre that's part of the system for real.
08:56 Maybe that wasn't such a good idea.
08:56 I'll nuke all the perl dependencies from apt.
08:56 That'll probably fix it.
09:01 waxhead I have a mix of apt-installed and cpan installed modules

13:13 Alias__ azawawi, have you seen PPIx::Regexp?
13:14 szabgab, you don't reduce the slides, you just read them faster
13:15 szabgab actually skipping some of the "err" parts reduced the overall time by a lot
13:15 Alias__ Rehersal can do that
13:16 And if you get scared about going to quickly, just stash away a couple of topics you can get conveniently sidetracked talking about :)
13:17 szabgab so about the 50,000 downloads of Strawberry
13:18 do you remember the numbers about the overall market size?
13:18 Getty the php dudes are now going totally crazy. Facebook plans a system to "compile" PHP code to effective C++ stuff
13:18 workaround stacking :D
13:19 Hyppolit svn: r10483 | azawawi++ | http://padre.perlide.org/trac/changeset/10483
13:19 More UI regex editor tweaks to make it more compact
13:19 trunk/Padre/lib/Padre/Wx/Dialog/
13:19 Alias__ szabgab, no, can't remember
13:19 szabgab oh I found the e-mail from Jan Dubois from 7/7/7
13:19 Alias__ What's his numbers?
13:19 szabgab more than 4,500 downloads of ActivePerl 5.8.x per day.
13:19 azawawi Alias__: no i havent...
13:19 szabgab more than 1,000 downloads of ActivePerl 5.6.1 per day
13:20 Getty activeperl should link to strawberry ;)
13:20 Alias__ So combined strawberry downloads are at around about 800-1000 per day
13:20 Which is a bit under 20%
13:20 szabgab that does not bring you to 50,000/month you quote on your web site...
13:20 azawawi Getty: they have already implemented it over 90% of their systems [AFAIK]
13:21 Alias__ It's not 50k/month
13:21 Getty azawawi: yeah, stacking the workaround to bring the stuff to run at all ;)
13:21 szabgab "Serving 50,000 downloads a month." from http://ali.as/
13:21 Alias__ szabgab, ah
13:21 Getty azawawi: its running gag of php coders: "we have results, so our way must be right"
13:21 Alias__ That was from the Christmas period we got slashdotted
13:22 azawawi Getty: if it brings down cost :)
13:22 Alias__ If you look at our quarterly download count (since we started tracking) you get the following
13:22 Getty azawawi: just for the already made workarounds ;)
13:22 azawawi: instead of fixing the problem on the ground, they make on top workarounds
13:22 azawawi: like making a decent php interpreter that actually has all the patches in it that you need to have a real secure interpreter
13:23 szabgab Getty, don't start the language war here, please :-)
13:23 azawawi Getty: lol
13:23 szbalint yes, save it for FOSDEM
13:23 ;-(
13:23 Getty szabgab: if both sides are on the same thinking its no war! ;)
13:23 szbalint :-)
13:23 Getty actually i cant make war with php coders, they are unarmed
13:23 Alias__ 26k -> 18k -> 150k -> 93k -> 44k -> 46k -> 60k
13:23 Getty bbl
13:23 Alias__ That's for the last two-ish years
13:24 You can see the slashdotting in the middle there
13:24 (That's 3 month increments)
13:24 szabgab so 50K/r month ?
13:24 Alias__ No, divide all those by 3
13:24 20k per month right now
13:24 szabgab yeah, sorry
13:25 well, then I have a little lie in my slides :-)
13:25 50 K a quarter then
13:25 Alias__ Or thereabouts

13:26 last time it was snowing like this we had 8-10 hour delays
13:27 szabgab we arrived to Budapest just after the big snow on Sunday - by car - and we had to dig out the street
13:27 azawawi Alias__: use PPIx::Regexp for as a cool regex highlighter right?
13:27 szabgab and the entrance
13:27 azawawi Alias__: and regex-to-english language translator :)
13:27 szbalint szabgab: oh fun :)
13:27 szabgab was Saturday
13:27 Alias__ azawawi, I'm not sure what we might do with it, but he did a pretty hardcore job on it
13:27 azawawi Alias__: thanks for the tip
13:27 szabgab and then we took off on Sunday morning after 30 min of deicing
13:27 Alias__ He took a similiar approach to PPI, as accurate as possible
13:28 You could even just show the parse tree and that would get you a lot
13:28 And yeah, an English thingy might be quite doable
13:28 azawawi Alias__: actually i had a todo for a Padre regex highlighter
13:28 Alias__ Inline?
13:29 As in, you'll highlight right in the middle of the main document?
13:29 Won't that be slow?
13:29 azawawi Alias__: for the regex editor for now
13:29 Alias__: and later maybe inline...

14:12 avar I just installed http://github.com/stsquad/emacs_chrome for emacs, I just wanted to point out that it would be really easy for someone familiar with Padre to implement a Padre server and thus use Padre as the text editor for chrome
14:12 szabgab what would that do?
14:13 I never tried Chrome
14:13 avar It's a plugin for chrome that adds an "edit" box to every text field so you can launch an external editor, write your mail in e.g. emacs instead of chrome.
14:14 There are similar things for Firefox
14:15 szabgab ah
14:17 avar This is how the protocol is: http://pastie.org/807520

20:33 Sewi: it snows like 2-3 days max but not every year...

20:35 Sewi: you should have seen abu dhabi (UAE) when it rains...
20:35 Sewi: i worked there for three years... and it rained only once when i was there... floods!
20:41 Sewi azawawi: They also get problems dealing with the snow here, because we got more than in each of the 23 years before :-)
20:44 azawawi Sewi: they had floods since they didnt have water ducts/sewers for roads since it rarely rains :)
20:46 Sewi I thought that you got 20-40C all year, too.
