12:28 Alias_ But I'll do you a deal :)
12:29 azawawi also, do you have ideas regarding the Wx::Webkit discussion
12:29 Alias_ When I originally designed Padre's configuration system, I intentionally modelled it after Mozilla's configuration
12:29 Alias_ A limited number of types, arranged in a logically nested tree
12:30 Alias_ If someone were to implement something similar to the Mozilla about:config thing, it would go a long way to making new interesting configuration settings that are hard to express in preferences

18:01 spartan_ hello folks...
18:01 spartan_ so i went and downloaded the windows msi installer for padre (.50) and did the install.
18:02 spartan_ rebooted like a good little windows person
18:02 spartan_ and went to run the c:\strawberry\perl\bin\padre.bat only to get this error:
18:02 spartan_ Can't locate Padre.pm in @INC (@INC contains: C:/Perl/site/lib C:/Perl/lib .) at  c:\strawberry\perl\bin\padre.bat line 83.
18:04 spartan_ i am thinking this may be a problem stemming from multiple perl's being installed on the system...
18:04 spartan_ I have cygwin installed to give me a local X server, and with that perl is also installed.
18:05 spartan_ I had a need to install Active State's perl for some WWW::Mechanize scripts to make my life easier...
18:05 spartan_ and now this padre install put strawberry on the system
18:06 spartan_ any ideas?

18:13 jq hmm, website says 0.50 for msi installer
18:13 spartan_ i went here: http://padre.perlide.org/download.html and downloaded the Padre 0.50 MSI

18:32 spartan_ i'lll see if i can install WWW:Mechanize from the cpan tool

18:37 spartan_ hmm... i *think* it's a problem with my %PATH%
18:37 azawawi spartan_: could you paste it?
18:38 spartan_ i invoked c:\strawberry\perl\bin\cpan but it looks like its trying to use activestates perl binary:

20:04 spartan_ azawawi: no worries.
20:06 * spartan_ notes that his install of WWW::Mechanize is going badly due to restrictive laptop builds and locked down windows xp firewall settings.
20:06 spartan_ I can't create listening sockets, so the 'make test' for starting a local http server on port 2005 is gonna fail
20:08 spartan_ back.t strikes again.
20:33 spartan_ Many thanks to jq, and azawawi. i'll check back in when 0.57 rolls out and give this another shot.
20:38 teejay so how "ready" is the swarm feature in Padre these days?
20:38 teejay saw the screenshot, which was cool
20:39 teejay but couldn't see any obvious signs of remote changes to the doc
20:39 * teejay is working with people a 3 hour flight across the country on some projects and it's looking like a killer feature

20:42 CSJewell azawawi: I noticed.
20:43 Sewi CSJewell++ for creating a .56 msi
20:47 CSJewell Thanks, Sewi.
20:48 CSJewell azawawi: Note that I'm using wxWidgets 2.9.0, not 2.8.10, iirc.
20:49 azawawi CSJewell: i see
20:50 CSJewell Other than that, I don't know what could be causing the crash.
20:50 azawawi CSJewell: does the problem occur on your PC?
20:50 CSJewell It does.
20:50 azawawi CSJewell: interesting
20:50 CSJewell But at least you DO have an MSI to figure out why it's crashing at all. :)
20:51 azawawi CSJewell: does it upgrade padre-standalone-0.50.msi automatically or do i have to remove it?
20:51 CSJewell (where might help, too... crash-at-end is not the best of symptoms)
20:51 CSJewell It should upgrade automatically.
20:51 * azawawi tries it again
20:51 CSJewell No. You'll need to remove it.
20:52 * CSJewell had just gotten up from a nap.
20:52 azawawi cool
20:52 CSJewell I had forgotten the name change may have removed that ability.
20:52 * azawawi removing
20:54 CSJewell Maybe one of you guys could look at CPANPLUS::Shell::Wx and get it to not crash...
20:55 CSJewell (I'd like a working Wx-style CPAN for Professional)
21:01 azawawi when is professional due?
21:02 azawawi "scanning for added files" takes a long time.. especially considering that vista/win7 like to index your c:\strawberry after installation...
21:02 azawawi indexing c:\strawberry takes like 2-3mins of background hd thrashing...
21:05 CSJewell We're aiming for April release.
21:05 azawawi near rakudo star...
21:10 * azawawi tests padre crash-on-exit bug
21:15 azawawi CSJewell: found it
21:15 azawawi CSJewell: Padre::Wx::AuiManager line 105
21:16 azawawi tsee: ping
21:16 tsee azawawi, pongish
21:17 azawawi tsee: under newer Padre line 105 in Padre::Wx::AuiManager dies
21:17 azawawi tsee: sorry newer Wx...
21:17 tsee "newer"?
21:17 azawawi tsee: which is found in today's strawberry
21:17 azawawi 2.9.0
21:17 * azawawi sleepy :)
21:17 tsee Ah. Isn't that a dev version?
21:18 tsee => wxperl-users. I think somebody reported something like that.
21:18 CSJewell I didn't thing they had the "odd middle = dev" thing.
21:18 CSJewell s/thing/think/
21:18 tsee http://docs.wxwidgets.org/stable/ => 2.8.10
21:19 tsee http://wxwidgets.org/downloads/ => development snapshot is 2.9.0
21:19 tsee They do.
21:19 CSJewell It is an option in Alien::wxWidgets. :(
21:19 CSJewell Didn't know.
21:19 azawawi tsee: Wx::AuiManager::DESTROY # i read your comments :)
21:20 azawawi tsee: goto &$destroy; # somehow dies with "Can't spawn "C:\strawberry\perl\bin\perl.exe": No error at dev.pl line 123"
21:20 azawawi tsee: had to enable tracing to understand what happened
21:20 tsee azawawi, no idea.
21:20 azawawi tsee: me 2 :)
21:20 azawawi CSJewell: revert back to stable? :)
21:21 CSJewell OK. When I do the rebuild for 0.58, I'll build the par using 2.8.10.
21:21 azawawi cool then
21:21 azawawi so how about destroying that msi link then? :)
21:22 CSJewell I could just rebuild the par and make it available for patching purposes.
21:22 azawawi CSJewell: yeah that would be cool if it was a merge module or something
21:23 azawawi CSJewell: ignore me if i do not make sense :)
21:23 CSJewell (the Alien::wxWidgets .par that I use as a shortcut when I build Padre)
21:23 CSJewell The patch command would be "perl -MPAR::Dist -e"install_par q(new_url)"
21:23 CSJewell I'll build it tonight.
21:23 azawawi CSJewell: aha cool
21:24 azawawi CSJewell: and i'll blog about it in the morning then.
21:25 CSJewell I didn't know that it would crash.  Maybe we could throw a warning in Padre's installing .PL?
21:25 azawawi CSJewell: how much does a full build need?
21:26 azawawi CSJewell: yeah that would be the correct thing to do
21:26 CSJewell if ('2.009000' eq Alien::wxWidgets->version()) { die "warning" }
21:27 CSJewell It's a class method on A::wxW that we can check.
21:27 CSJewell It makes Alien::wxWidgets a configure_requires, however.
21:28 azawawi in BEGIN {...} ?
21:28 CSJewell Not neccessarily, but you could.
21:30 CSJewell You might wish to eval the require first - you know these things... because if it's not installed, you can't check it.
21:31 azawawi CSJewell: care to add it please then? :)
21:31 azawawi CSJewell: im sleepy and could easily ruin things
21:31 CSJewell Can't right now.
21:31 CSJewell Well, maybe I can.
21:31 azawawi thanks
21:32 Sewi Short question: I got a classname in $class and it has a our $variable defined. How do I get this variable content? $class::variable expects a class "class" instead of using the $class content
21:32 azawawi you'll have to excuse me now... battery empty... :)
21:32 * azawawi good night everyone &
21:34 PerlJam Sewi: ${$class."::variable"}
21:34 PerlJam caveat lector and all that though.  :)
21:40 Sewi PerlJam: Thanks, I'll try
21:41 CSJewell r10640.
21:41 CSJewell Fixed it a little in r10641.
21:42 CSJewell I was a little sleepy, too.
21:44 CSJewell Other people may want to specify a higher version of Alien::wxWidgets.
