02:31 Hyppolit Adding an improved mechanism for producing a humanised list of window names, and converted the Window menu refresh method to use it.
02:31 Hyppolit
02:31 Hyppolit This still uses a horribly inefficient refresh mechanism, but I'll deal with that next.

02:32 Alias If people could test the new Window list, I would appreciate it
02:33 Alias It should correctly handle real files, unsaved files, and URLs all properly
02:33 kthakore Alias: going trough brand new build system ( kmx's code bomb )
02:33 kthakore ;)

02:34 kthakore if it was a code bomb from a new dev I would feel reluctant to accept it

04:02 aeschylus hi guys, is the experimental os x dmg supposed to work on os x 10.5?
04:03 azawawi Alias: vista SP1 or SP2?
04:04 azawawi Alias: mysterious ding problem... :)
04:04 aeschylus because I get a failure at startup.. crash and burn
04:04 azawawi aeschylus: hi
04:05 azawawi aeschylus: i have no idea since im on win32. Any output you can paste?
04:07 aeschylus it mentions snow leopard in the dmg, so I suspect leopard might not be supported/tested?
04:07 aeschylus azawawi: not sure - will see if I can find something useful
04:08 azawawi aeschylus: cool
04:09 azawawi Alias: re "...It would be fairly neat if that "User" toggled between "User" and "Host" depending on which backend the setting was stored in"
04:10 aeschylus I get something like: "dyld: unknown required load command 0x80000022" and "Trace/BPT trap"
04:10 azawawi Alias: i think you meant "Default" toggling between "User" and "Host"
04:11 azawawi aeschylus: Have you tried checking out and running padre trunk instead?
04:11 aeschylus building from source?
04:11 aeschylus I'm just testing the os x disk image
04:12 azawawi ah i see
04:12 azawawi then i suppose it is not tested under 10.5
04:12 aeschylus have never got padre building from source or installed off CPAN :)
04:13 azawawi aeschylus: maybe you should try it :)
04:13 aeschylus looks like that's the problem (with a bit of quick googling) - perhaps built for snow leopard only
04:13 aeschylus azawawi: oh I've tried :)

04:14 szabgab aeschylus, unfortunatelly we also wait for some Mac people

04:15 aeschylus szabgab: cool ok. will see if I can help out - busy as at the moment..

04:18 szabgab Mac prices: MacBook Pro 13" 2.26GHz in applestore 1200 USD in local store 6900 NIS = 1900 USD
04:18 snarkyboojum joined #padre
04:19 szabgab hmm, it used to be twice as much as in the US
04:19 azawawi szabgab: MacBook 13" is a bit more expensive here given the 16% tax...
04:20 szabgab ah yes, and I am forced to buy warranty for 1000 NIS = 277 USD
04:20 szabgab we also have 16% VAT
04:21 szabgab so if I want to be fair I need to reduce that from the local price (for myself) as I am a company
04:23 szabgab anyway, I wonder if the 7 hours battery life is real
04:24 azawawi szabgab: i think less than 2-hours while developing Padre :)
04:24 szabgab what do you mean?
04:24 szabgab to much power consumption ?
04:24 azawawi szabgab: yeah
04:25 azawawi szabgab: they do not measure battery life while the cpu is 50-100% busy (i think)
04:25 szabgab my notebook has a 1 hour battery lifespan
04:26 szabgab I think when it is idle it can do half an hour more
04:26 * azawawi debugging Perl 6 storable out of memory bug
04:27 azawawi szabgab: have you read http://use.perl.org/~JonathanWorthington/journal/40190 ?
04:28 szabgab nope
04:28 szabgab I hardly read anything lately
04:28 szabgab let me see
04:29 szabgab oh lazyness! cool
04:29 azawawi szabgab: next release (tomorrow) :)
04:29 azawawi szabgab: we're going to be near-STD
04:30 szabgab it would be awesome if you could biggy-back on their release with a new release of the Perl 6 plugin
04:30 azawawi szabgab: so i think i need to revamp what we currently have for rakudo to get those extra perl5isms warnings/errors
04:31 azawawi szabgab: i need first to check how much rakudo error messages are ofcourse
04:31 azawawi szabgab: s/are/are good
04:31 * azawawi installs P:P:P6
04:31 szabgab let me stop staring at the applestore ... I won't buy it any time soon anyway
04:32 azawawi szabgab: i suggest buying it while you're abroad
04:33 azawawi szabgab: 5 years ago i wanted to buy one from Dubai but the dealer was so bad and Arabic RTL support was not good anyways...
04:34 szabgab AFAIK Hebrew isn't supported either (not even now)
04:34 szabgab but I hardly use it anyway
04:34 szabgab yes, that was the plan to buy it in the US
04:34 azawawi szabgab: sometimes you get an email from a friend in Arabic and that's sure a problem...
04:35 azawawi szabgab: what about support/warranty?
04:35 szabgab I don't get much of those :-)
04:35 szabgab but Gmail is ok in that
04:35 szabgab no idea
04:35 szabgab about w/s
04:36 szabgab probably they will try t kick my ass as I have not bought in their shop with their extra prices

04:37 azawawi szabgab: like car dealerships :)
04:40 szabgab I talk to nothingmuch again about it
04:52 Alias__ I found the menu flicker problem
04:53 Alias__ For some reason we call refresh_menubar way too often
04:53 Alias__ Which will read a custom menu layout from config and destroy the entire menu
04:53 Alias__ And then rebuild it from scratch
04:54 Alias__ So we're tearing down the entire menu and rebuilding it from scratch at least twice during startup, and probably one-two times every time we open a file
04:55 Alias__ When I've finished the optimised Window menu hacks, I'm going to tear out the entire configurable menu concept and go back to the order style
04:55 Alias__ older
05:01 Alias__ azawawi: How do you fix the dev.pl beep problem? Is there ANY way to do it?
05:02 azawawi Alias: no idea, cannot set a manifest for perl.exe
05:02 azawawi Alias: since it is not a gui app...
05:03 azawawi Alias: you need to fix it manually by deleting a registry
05:04 Alias__ So then I need to make dev.pl detect the relevant registry entry and error out?
05:04 azawawi Alias: ouch i figured out the Storable-Perl 6 plugin  problem
05:04 azawawi Alias: yeah we can do that
05:04 Alias__ perl dev.pl ... crashes
05:05 Alias__ perl dev.pl --fixwin32beep
05:05 Alias__ ... to apply the correction
05:05 Alias__ or something
05:05 azawawi Alias: but we remember UAC!! :)
05:05 Alias__ sigh, right
05:05 azawawi Alias: that's why i had regedit reading a reg file in --desktop before... :)
05:06 azawawi Alias: you need to execute an elevated application to bypass uac
05:06 azawawi Alias: about the Storable out of memory bug
05:07 Alias__ You found out why it's happening?
05:07 azawawi Alias: i use nfreeze to freeze the parsed tokens from the separate 'perl p6tokens.p5' invocation
05:07 azawawi Alias: and then thaw it...
05:08 Alias__ ok...
05:12 azawawi Alias: is there another fast way to serialize/deserialize data quickly between processes?
05:12 Alias__ Define data
05:12 Alias__ There's a number of fast ways if you have have a BDS
05:12 azawawi Alias: BDS?
05:12 Alias__ Big Dumb Struct ( scalar/hash/array, no blessing, no circulars )
05:13 azawawi data => http://pastebin.ca/1801118
05:13 Alias__ JSON::XS is pretty quick, YAML in a pinch works, or even Bencode (which is what bittorrent uses)
05:14 Alias__ Streaming or transactional?
05:14 Alias__ Personally, I'd just use JSON::XS in your case
05:14 Alias__ You could even use CSV I think, looking at that
05:14 Alias__ It's a table, right?
05:14 Alias__ A stream of identically-keyed hashes?
05:15 Alias__ Streaming it through Text::CSV_XS would probably be hella fast
05:15 azawawi i already have YAML::XS as a dependency of S:H:P6 (since STD.pm needs it)
05:15 Alias__ That should do in a pinch
05:16 azawawi however i do remember TimToady dumping it lately :)
05:16 azawawi and reverting back to YAML...
05:16 * azawawi checks svn logs
05:23 azawawi Alias: nop YAML::XS is still there ... re-using :)
05:27 azawawi Alias: worked like a charm :)
05:27 azawawi Alias: thanks

05:33 Hyppolit [Perl 6] A possible fix to the "Out of memory" Storable nfreeze from another process and thaw in a Padre::Task. The serialized structure was really small. This did not happen on the older perl 5.10.0... So i am re-using YAML::XS dependency which i get from S:H:P6

11:15 submersible cpaN WILL mirror it quicker than this
11:17 waxhead submersible, that's the worst I've seen it... it wasn't great with telstra either, but I'd have though it better on internode

11:36 waxhead ecocode, you seeing problems with the install?
11:37 ecocode hmm.. yes
11:37 ecocode lots of dependencies missing on clean Ubuntu
11:37 ecocode but it might be due to called modules
11:37 ecocode make succeeded once Locale::Msgfmt has been installed
11:37 ecocode make test fails for lots of reasons though
11:38 ecocode all dependencies
11:38 waxhead ecocode, oh.. on clean install you need a heck of a lot of modules...
11:38 ecocode Test::Script
11:38 waxhead cpan fun...
11:38 ecocode yep, but they should be installed automatically through cpan
11:38 ecocode File::HomeDir
11:38 waxhead ecocode, yeah, you really need to pip with pretty much all required dependanceis.. or just meet them..
11:39 waxhead ecocode, I'm not sure that cpan can do that some times...
11:39 waxhead I have in the past had to work back and find the failed dep...
11:39 ecocode it does... you need to put that in Makefile.PL
11:40 waxhead ecocode, I did a full installed of Padre with cpan last week... it installed fine, however I made some changes to the cpan config.. and I think what made the difference was the setting for the make and build installed commands using sudo
11:40 waxhead ecocode, because I think where cpan fails to install is when a module doesn't have the permission to isntall man files etc
11:41 waxhead ecocode, http://perlwannabe.vox.com/library/post/installing-padre-from-cpan.html

12:10 azawawi waxhead: ok
12:11 * azawawi pip-ing :)
12:11 Sewi Anybody knows if I could install a buyed w7 over the release candidate without loosing settings & programs?
12:12 azawawi waxhead: slow server... i think it is my isp...
12:13 azawawi waxhead: from feather.perl6.nl im downloading at 18K/sec
12:13 waxhead azawawi, submersible complained it was slow too
12:14 azawawi http://feather.perl6.nl/~azawawi/Padre-0.57.tar.gz
12:14 azawawi i'll keep it for a week
12:15 waxhead azawawi, cool.. if it installs ok for you, I'll point pause at it

12:16 waxhead azawawi, I'm flat out doing the dev stuff I do now..
12:16 * waxhead is looking at the svn plugin again...
12:17 waxhead Sewi, no idea about win7...
12:17 * azawawi tries to update S:H:P6 (STD.pm)
12:17 azawawi Sewi: i think there is a migration path for that
12:17 waxhead Sewi, I didn't install windows again on this laptop.. only ubuntu
12:17 azawawi Sewi: not a problem but the programs im not sure of... only data
12:17 waxhead I'll run a vm for windows now
12:18 waxhead which reminds me, I really need to get around to doing that...
12:18 azawawi Sewi: basically if you have C and D, you can put all your data on D
12:18 azawawi Sewi: and ofcourse always backup before doing this
12:18 azawawi Sewi: XP to win7?
12:19 azawawi Sewi: Win7 upgrade guide: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd446674(WS.10).aspx
12:20 Sewi W7 RC to W7 RTM. Found something on Google: Might work when you patch the new install media to accept the RC as upgrade base
12:21 azawawi Sewi: best path is to install from scratch :)
12:23 Sewi azawawi: Yeah, but I can't copy the XP Virtual PC and would need to reinstall all software :-(
12:23 Sewi No time for this atm.

12:36 Hyppolit #855: Error in running script in Padre causes crash... (new defect) [ http://padre.perlide.org/trac/ticket/855#comment:2 ]
12:37 kthakore :(
12:38 ecocode waxhead: I'm not a locale specialist but this test fails: t/15-locale.t .............. 1/7 13:37:30: Error: Cannot set locale to 'de_DE'.

12:38 Hyppolit trunk/Syntax-Highlight-Perl6/
12:39 ecocode quite sure I don't have de_DE installed... but that shouldn't be a requirement, is it ?
12:39 waxhead kthakore, the error you see is that the errorlist method is missing...
12:39 kthakore HEHEHE
12:39 waxhead ecocode, I think that's a deliberate fail test
12:39 kthakore muhahhaha
12:39 kthakore waxhead: so can I just add a fake errorlist method?
12:39 ecocode ha!
12:40 waxhead ecocode, I think the plan with that test is to actually test that it fails gracefully...
12:40 waxhead ecocode, I get lost in the testsuite mostly...
12:41 kthakore OMG! I figured out the problem
12:41 ecocode hmmm... but it won't fail gracefully in Germany though
12:41 kthakore the stupid Error list tab was not on
12:41 waxhead kthakore, that's why I reported the bug as well... and pulled yours in.. the task that runs these scripts in padre needs that errorlist method, or we need to find what it got renamed to
12:41 kthakore ok I can fix this
12:41 kthakore can you assign that to me

13:03 waxhead kthakore, I think the problem is in the Padre::Task::ErrorParser, if shifts $main in, which thinks isa Padre::Wx::Main, which it isn't (not tested though) as the error says Can't locate object method "errorlist" via package "Padre::Wx::App".  the method errorlist is in Main though... so for some reason the second parameter  being passed in is Padre::Wx::App,not Padre::Wx::Main...
13:03 waxhead I htink!
