05:00 szabgabx mattp, the menus of the plugins are regenerated every time you enable disable a plugin so that is possible in wx but I don't think  that what you'd want is currently supported by Padre\

07:13 garu Sewi, isn't he right there with you guys?
07:13 Sewi No, he didn't get the chance to come :-(
07:13 Sewi Hi garu.
07:14 Sno|Laptop moin moin
07:14 Sewi I just opened a ticket for him (876)...
07:14 garu Sno|Laptop, moin
07:14 Sewi Hi Sno|Laptop
07:15 Sewi Okay, heading to Cebit again...
07:15 garu Sewi, maybe down at #perl6? or maybe he's working - already midday in jordan
07:15 Sno|Laptop whom can I ask because of a core dump when calling padre without x11
07:16 garu Sno|Laptop, it depends I guess
07:16 garu you could create a ticket
07:16 Sno|Laptop I had
07:16 garu or try and trace it a bit more just to figure if it's Padre's fault or wxWidgets
07:16 Sno|Laptop looks like CeBit keeps the guys busy
07:16 garu heh
07:17 Sno|Laptop it's fault of wx (or let's say: it dumps there - but I don't know if the call was allowed like is done)
07:19 szabgabx Sno|Laptop, you might also write about that on the wxperl mailing list
07:19 szabgabx of course the best would be to try to create a minimal example of that without Padre
07:20 Sno|Laptop no time for that :)
07:20 Sno|Laptop that would mean, debug the real issue out - which mean, I could create a patch for it :)
07:21 Sno|Laptop but people bombs me with RT's at SQL::Statement and Proc::ProcessTable
07:23 szabgabx then at least send an e-mail to the wxperl list so Mattia will be aware of the issue
07:25 Sno|Laptop ok, that I'll do
07:26 garu Sno|Laptop++
07:27 Sno|Laptop now going to the office

08:46 bart Padre annoyance: if you run longrunning Perl script with F5, I see no indication it's still running. Worse: if you run it again before it's finished, Padre crashes.
08:47 joerg sno|laptop not so good yet... i've got a syntax highlithing bug ... :(

22:14 Josh Hello.  I just tried the mac .dmg version, and it's not working for me.  If I click the app, i get a 'quit unexpectedly' message.   Details: http://tinypaste.com/2fe1a
22:18 Sewi Hi Josh,
22:20 Sewi Do you use that snowing animal.
22:20 Sewi ?
22:21 Sewi Probably I'm too sleepy now to really help you :-)
22:24 garu <-- linux user, sorry :/
22:26 bart I'm not a macosx user either but... On Windows, you allegedly have to run padre *once* from within perl to make the standalone work by itself... Could this be similar?
22:26 Josh This is Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard)
22:28 Josh The error is remarkably cryptic, so i don't know where to start.  I could probably install it from source if necessary, but was hoping to at least help get this issue with the prebuilt version fixed.
22:28 Sewi Josh: We were trying it on leo today, too and discovered that even wxPerl has no thread suppot.
22:28 Sewi support
22:29 Sewi Oliver - the macbook owner where we tried - is going to compile a perl soon and I think we'll create a standalone package from it.
22:29 Sewi I'm very sorry
22:29 garu I think Sewi's right - macosx doesn't have threaded perl, required by wxwidgets (and wxperl)
22:30 Sewi Yeah, but there was a wxperl and it also wasn't threaded :-(
22:30 Josh My perl appears to be built with thread support.
22:30 Sewi Josh: But you're welcome if you find a (propably easier) solution to add it to the wiki.
22:30 garu Josh, the pre-built version should work, though... let's hope someone with a mac wakes up =)
22:30 Josh Can't speak to wxperl, i assume that's bundled in the pre-built version
22:30 garu Josh, hmm... I can't read your paste
22:31 garu tinypaste made it only 2 lines long
22:31 Josh strange, looks ok to me.  Do you know another site I can stash it on?
22:31 garu with a big 'our sponsors' on top
22:31 Sewi Josh: Do you want to get a trac account - it also allows you to edit the wiki pages? I could open the registration for you now, but
22:31 garu Josh, http://paste.scsys.co.uk
22:31 Sewi I need to go away in ~20 min. and need to close it before.
22:32 garu you can even set it to show the paste url here on #padre
22:32 garu Sewi, I can do it for you if you must go
22:32 Josh http://paste.scsys.co.uk/40257
22:32 Sewi register?
22:32 Hyppolit register is http://padre.perlide.org/trac/register
22:32 Sewi Go ahead if you want.
22:33 Sewi garu: Oh sorry, thank you, I forgot your admin rights on trac...
22:33 Sewi it's open now.
22:33 Sewi Sorry for being less helpful tonight but CeBit was hard today :-)
22:34 garu Sewi, you're drunk from partying - admit it :)
22:34 garu Getty led you to the dark side of the force
22:34 garu thanks Josh, much better now
22:35 garu 'unknown required load command'
22:35 bart Your perl is threaded, but your Wx isn't??
22:36 Sewi garu: I didn't do party or drink anything (alcoholic)
22:37 Josh Got no idea.. where would my Wx be?
22:37 garu "The solution: There is a dynamic load function (0x22) that got added at 10.5.6. The system that I was testing on was 10.5.5. I upgraded to 10.5.8, and the problem magically went away."
22:38 garu http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2151112
22:38 garu think this could be it?
22:38 Josh I'm not too familiar with MacOS packaging.  /Applications/Padre.app/Contents/MacOS/padre is an executable of some sort.  I assume it somehow invokes perl.
22:39 garu if the mac our padre dist was compiled on was too different than your version, this might be what's causing the trouble
22:39 Josh Apparently?
22:39 Josh I'm on 10.5.8, so it's not that exact issue, but something similar.
22:39 garu likely, yeah
22:40 Josh I'm guessing that the problem is in this 'padre' binary.  Wonder what it does.  If it just turns around and runs a perl commandline, i wonder if I could invoke that directly.
22:40 bart Well Josh is using 10.5.8.
22:41 garu I don't have a mac, so I'm just googling for that error message
22:41 Sno|Laptop Josh: are you interested getting Padre running on MacOS X or do you primarily want that a precompiled version runs?
22:42 garu apparently, mac binaries aren't compatible between some osx versions
22:42 garu so our padre mac package was likely built in an incompatible version than current's (and Josh's)
22:43 bart I'm guessing that in the old tradition of executables made from Perl scripts, it is a packed Perl interpreter + script + modules
22:43 Apocalypse joined #padre
22:43 garu Josh, Sno|Laptop is right. If you're interested in building Padre yourself for the osx, we *might* be able to help you a little more (unless someone with a mac pops in)
22:44 Sno|Laptop garu: than I helped already :)
22:44 garu bart, + static libs
22:44 garu Sno|Laptop++ :)
22:45 Sno|Laptop he could checkout pkgsrc (trunk) as described in pkgsrc guide
22:45 bart static too? oh...
22:45 Sno|Laptop that Padre 0.57 which is packaged there will use it's own threaded perl and runs fine on MacOS X
22:45 garu bart, yup, otherwise it wouldn't be "stand-alone" :)
22:46 garu bart, this would justify the incompatible nature of things. My first take was 32 x 64, but google led me to believe this is a much more common issue
22:47 bart well I'm used to a bunch of dynamic libs together. Also pretty "standalone".
22:47 Sewi Josh: Just one question before I leave, where did you hear about Padre?
22:47 Josh Friend of mine (coke) mentioned it a while back.
22:47 Sno|Laptop Josh: do you have xcode?
22:48 Josh Oh and I don't mind building it from source if I need to, but I figured i'd at least try to offer feedback on the prebuilt version- obviously it would be simpler if that worked, and I can't be the only one with this problem
22:48 Josh Yes.  I haven't actually had a chance to use it yet.
22:48 Sno|Laptop no, the .dmg file available seems not to work
22:48 Sno|Laptop there were some people here last days reporting it
22:48 Josh Most of my programming type stuff I do on linux, but I figured this was the kind of app that would be better to run locally on the mac.
22:49 Josh ok
22:49 Sno|Laptop Josh: If you want an "easy" way and don't mind that the resulting Padre is an X11 application, you can use the pkgsrc one
22:50 Josh I'll try installing it directly then (probably not until later tonight)  - are the instructions at http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/Download#OSX up to date?
22:50 Sno|Laptop you finally need a threaded wxperl on OSX
22:50 Josh native widgets would be preferable to an X app, i imagine.
22:51 Josh since i haven't even tried padre yet to see if I like it, maybe i'll try it on my ubuntu box first.  I would imagine that's easier.
22:51 bart Eh, cpan Alien::wxWidgets    wouldn't that use the wrong perl?
22:53 Sno|Laptop this uses the perl which was used to call cpan (IIRC)
22:53 Sno|Laptop Josh: yes, this might the better way
22:54 Sno|Laptop but even on Ubuntu pkgsrc Padre works :) (I'm trying to get new users ^^)
22:54 bart I would expect cpan to use the system perl.
22:55 Sno|Laptop bart: yes, but if you do wxperl cpan ... - than A::wW uses wxperl
