16:13 rindolf Hi all.
16:13 LeK hi
16:14 rindolf I announced the new Padre on Freshmeat.net and discovered a few interesting projects there in the process.
16:24 rindolf Hi LeK
16:26 szabgabx ty rindolf
16:38 rindolf szabgabx: you're welcome.
16:38 rindolf szabgabx: are you the new version of szabgab? Like Mac OS X?
16:40 holli joined #padre
16:41 LeK or a naked version of scabgab maybe
16:50 rindolf LeK: heh.
16:51 rindolf LeK: that's a disturbing thought.
16:51 rindolf LeK: but let's drop this. It's not P.C..

17:20 LeK rindolf, sorry, it was just a bad joke
17:20 rindolf LeK: it wasn't a bad joke, just could get out of line quickly.
17:21 LeK i don't understand what you mean rindolf
17:22 rindolf LeK: I mean it was funny and amusing, just that it could devolve the conversation into a bad taste one quickly.
17:23 LeK oh yes, of course... i couldn't help... x doesn't make me think to mac os, it rather make me think to adult rated content... maybe i'm not geek enough... or maybe i'm too geek. I don't really know :)
17:25 rindolf LeK: yeah.
17:25 rindolf LeK: so how's the weather? ;-)
17:25 rindolf It was kinda hot today in Israel.
17:25 rindolf I took a shortcut in my walk because I couldn't stand the heat.
17:26 LeK rindolf, sun is coming back after a long winter so it's greatly welcome today... there's lot of people in the street, but the heat is not a problem and won't be before one month or two
17:26 LeK (that's in Paris :) )
17:27 rindolf LeK: my friend http://www.muilx.org/ said he read somewhere that the X letter is easily remembered. That's why he changed his nick from mulib to mulix.
17:27 rindolf LeK: ah.
17:27 rindolf LeK: Paris.
17:28 rindolf LeK: I've been to Paris. Nice town.
17:28 rindolf LeK: at least the part I visited.
17:28 rindolf LeK: we could not afford really fancy food, though.
17:28 rindolf LeK: so I don't really recall the food fondly.
17:29 LeK rrindolf, you're the kind of tourist that tastes food as much as views and monuments? (so am I)
17:30 rindolf LeK: I live in Tel Aviv. Close to szabgab.
17:31 LeK paris is like every capital, everything is expensive... food sometimes more than anything
17:31 rindolf LeK: I normally eat the fast food.
17:31 rindolf LeK: I never travelled on my own - only along with my father and possibly other members of my family.
17:32 * LeK never really traveled outside europe, except for one very short us trip... i've been told that isreal is worth the trip
17:33 LeK rindolf, you should have left wife and children in a mac donald and offer yourself a nice french diner :)
17:34 rindolf LeK: ah.
17:34 rindolf Actually it's http://www.mulix.org/
17:35 rindolf http://www.mulix.org/
17:35 LeK i've corrected but forgot the page loading... let's have a look
17:35 * LeK 's fighting with corba iiop version  in the same time
17:36 LeK that's a real hacker's page :) ouch so many colors, it hurts my eye ;)
17:37 LeK hypervisor and os, that sounds rather *cool* to my ears
17:39 rindolf LeK: I'm not married.
17:39 rindolf LeK: heh.
17:39 rindolf LeK: he's a kernel / low-level developer.
17:39 rindolf LeK: hard-core.
17:39 rindolf Doesn't like HTML - only likes LaTeX.
17:40 rindolf And hated Perl 5. Switched to Python. Maybe now he only hacks in Emacs Lisp.
17:40 LeK it seems so... i like the ps cv :)
17:40 rindolf LeK: heh.
17:40 LeK it lacks nroff format though :)
17:41 rindolf LeK: we had a discussion on Linux-IL (without him I think) that you should prefer PostScript over PDF because Windows people don't matter.
17:41 rindolf Let me find it.
17:42 LeK erf
17:42 rindolf LeK: http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-il@cs.huji.ac.il/msg26170.html
17:44 LeK in the meantime, I'm thinking about problems I had with the rendering of .ods exported to .doc... the world is not ready yet for interoperability
17:45 LeK even women don't fit that well with men :)
17:46 * LeK wonders what wysiwyg tex wordprocessor looks like nowadays
17:46 LeK (lyx still active!!!! nice :) )
17:49 rindolf Oh, actually , he did take part in it.
17:49 rindolf Muli I mean.
17:50 LeK in lyx?
17:51 rindolf LeK: .odt?
17:51 rindolf LeK: LyX is still active. Not sure about KLyX.
17:52 LeK I like that kind of arguments: You yourself said that accessing the i'th page is O(i) in PostScript while O(1) in PDF
17:52 rindolf LeK: I didn't try to grok LyX too well.
17:52 rindolf I'm not a WYSIWYG addict.
17:52 LeK rind, odt is open office format
17:52 rindolf LeK: I also like DocBook/XML.
17:52 rindolf And stuff.
17:52 rindolf And I write DocBook/XML using gvim.
17:53 LeK you're talking to a guy that have recently lost one full afternoon because of a word bug... i understand your preference, but the world is what it is and corp world is made of word users... that's the way it goes :)
17:53 LeK it is
17:54 rindolf LeK: no, out of Lyx.
17:54 rindolf LeK: yes, well.
17:54 rindolf LeK: I can write some stuff in word.
17:55 rindolf LeK: I don't like Word. I actually found the early WordPerfects preferable.
17:55 rindolf And naturally, it's very hard to edit PDFs.
17:55 rindolf Which reminds me that we keep getting asked about ways to manipulate them...
17:56 rindolf Lots of stuff about it on CPAN too.
17:56 LeK it's hard to edit pdf... you mean in vim ? :)
17:56 rindolf LeK: no, in general.
17:56 LeK it was a joke
17:57 * LeK has always been on the edge of the hardcore geek and the integrated corporate guy...
17:57 LeK this sometimes made me somehow schizophrenic
17:57 rindolf LeK: yes, I see now.
17:58 rindolf LeK: sometimes I generate valid XHTML and then open it in MS Word and save it.
17:58 rindolf It doesn't come out pixel perfect but neither do native word documents.
17:58 rindolf Or word documents of a previous version.
17:58 rindolf LeK: you mean MPD.
17:58 rindolf LeK: Multi-persona disorder.
17:58 LeK rindolf, yes
17:58 rindolf Schizophrenia is something else.
17:58 * rindolf is probably Bipolar.
17:59 LeK i'm not enough skilled in psychology and psychiatry to really care :)
17:59 rindolf MPD is very very rare.
17:59 rindolf Only it has become popular in popular culture.
18:00 rindolf LeK: well, I'm going to bathe.
18:01 LeK a true form of MPD must be something very rare, but from a given point of view, we are all made of multiple faces... that sometimes are very different... but that's a little OT from the chan ;)
18:01 rindolf LeK: it was nice talking to you.
18:01 rindolf LeK: enjoy the Parisian sun.
18:01 rindolf And the Parisian Oracle/Sun machines.
18:01 LeK thanks rindolf, have fun and beware of sun burnt :)
18:01 rindolf I'm quitting because IRC is too distracting.
18:01 LeK yup, i'm getting back to my corba stuff
18:02 rindolf LeK: CORBA...
18:02 rindolf Wow.
18:02 rindolf OK.
18:02 LeK see you later
18:02 rindolf LeK: good luck with it.
18:02 rindolf LeK: bye.

19:23 tome Howdy, I am trying to install Padre on debian lenny using CPAN. Running into an issue where Class::Adapter::Builder is not being found during testing (but I did install Class::Builder)
19:23 tome anyone seen this before, know how to work around it?
19:28 tome even if I force install padre won't run because of that missing .pm, though I'm not sure where to get it from
19:32 Sewi hi tome
19:32 tome Hi Sewi!
19:32 tome got any tips for Padre on debian lenny via cpan : ) ?
19:32 Sewi Did you try "cpan Class::Adapter::Builder"
19:32 tome yes, many times, like a sad sad monkey
19:32 tome it is not found
19:33 tome also, search.cpan doesn't have that
19:33 tome nor the internet in general...
19:33 Sewi But it's installed here.
19:33 Sewi Strange.
19:33 tome no doubt a failure on my part
19:33 tome but I don't know what
19:34 Sewi What happens if you do perl -MClass::Adapter::Builder -e '1;' ?
19:34 tome can't locate
19:34 tome in search.cpan searching for that class brings up Class::Builder
19:34 tome which I did install
19:34 Sewi perl -MClass::Builder -e '1'
19:34 tome returns nothing
19:34 tome (which I think means it's found)
19:35 Sewi it is.
19:35 Sewi But Class::Builder isn't found here.
19:35 tome it is also at version 1.010
19:35 tome perhaps there was a rename or something?
19:35 tome no
19:35 tome hm
19:35 Sewi I don't think so.
19:35 tome http://search.cpan.org/search?query=class%3A%3Aadapter%3A%3Abuilder&mode=all
19:35 Sewi "force install Class::Builder" in cpan?
19:36 tome that is how I installed class::builder, yes
19:36 tome it is installed for me
19:37 Sewi perl -MClass::Adapter -e 1
19:37 tome maybe you can find out more about that module on your system
19:37 tome can't locate
19:37 tome : )
19:37 Sewi I got 1.05
19:37 tome lets see
19:38 tome not found (class::adapter"
19:38 tome i think I tried that second : (
19:38 tome how can it not be on cpan : )
19:39 Sewi Class::Builder doesn't seem to be related to class::adapter(::builder)
19:39 tome <ology> tome: Looks like that was removed from Class::Builder on CPAN and I can't seem to locate it on backpan. :\
19:39 tome from #freenode
19:39 Sewi c:b is version 1.01 on cpan but c:a:b is 1.05
19:40 tome so it looks like this package is totally missing?
19:40 tome making padre uninstallable via cpan
19:41 Sewi There is a apt package libclass-adapter-perl
19:41 Sewi It's on Ubuntu, so it might be on Debian some time in the future :-)
19:41 tome grr : ) deb has that package : )
19:42 tome lenny
19:42 tome but it doesn't supply class::adapter::builder
19:42 tome sadly
19:42 tome (just tried)
19:43 Sewi submersible,garu, Ryan52, jq, El_Che: Please re-op Hyppolit. Thanks
19:43 tome when I try to run the binary distribution of padre I get an error that it cannot find libstdc++.so.6:, this is true even if I set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH to the dir that contains that library
19:43 Sewi It seems to be a standalone package and it's by Adam
19:44 Sewi But he isn't here at the moment.
19:44 Sewi But it's on his svn, you might want to try this: http://svn.ali.as/cpan/trunk/Class-Adapter/
19:45 tome Oh! Sewi, couldn't I pull class::adapter::bujlder from the binary distribution package...
19:45 tome 'binary
19:45 tome i mean the .bz package
19:45 Sewi Thanks, Ryan!
19:45 tome no, it does not appear there
19:46 tome maybe it's a newer requirement
19:46 Sewi It's there: http://svn.ali.as/cpan/trunk/Class-Adapter/lib/Class/Adapter/Builder.pm
19:46 tome not included in the padre .bz package
19:47 Sewi Maybe it's really new
19:47 tome Sewi, sorry I was unclear: I was looking in the .bz package I downloaded from the padre website to see if I could find that package, and it does not appear in the bz package, presumably because it was not used in the version that was bziped?
19:47 tome yup
19:47 Sewi But you should be able to use the svn version
19:47 Sewi Ping waxhead
19:52 tome LIFTOFF!
19:52 tome ; )
19:53 tome Thanks Sewi, Padre is up and running
19:53 tome I will explore it now
19:53 Sewi Go ahead :-)
19:53 Sewi Have fun
19:54 tome Sewi, should I open a ticket for the missing package on CPAN?
19:55 Sewi I just posted it to the dev mailing list and Adam/Alias or Peter/waxhead (Padre release manager) will look at the problem.
19:56 tome Thanks. Awesome.
20:12 tome I'm trying to redirect the stdout of my script to a file in padre, setting script arguments to args > /tmp/run.out does not seem to work.... Any tips for redirecting output?
20:12 tome (reason is padre hangs when my script outputs a PDF document)
20:12 Sewi :-)
20:12 Sewi Maybe activate the external terminal window for output
20:13 tome ah, that box only shows up on the 'Default' tab, not the file specific tab, that's why I didn't think of that
20:15 tome One more thing, I was trying to find a 'Run as debug' or something like that. I saw Run Script (debug info) which to me isn't exactly 'Run Debugger', but when I do select that, I get an error in the external terminal window
20:15 tome zsh:1: number expected
20:15 tome if I do a step into, then the debugger seems to launch properly..
20:15 tome odd
20:16 Sewi You start the debugger by stepping into.
20:17 tome as a newbe to the program, that is not an intuitive semantic
20:17 tome fyi
20:17 tome you normally start a debugger, or run with debugging
20:17 tome and step into functions
20:18 tome but anyway, not criticizing just giving feedback!
20:18 tome Padre looks really good, glad to be able to check it out
20:19 Sewi Where did you hear of it?
20:25 tome hm, a long time ago first
20:25 tome not sure to be honest
20:25 tome when I first tried it it didn't really work at all,was very early
20:25 tome (year+ ago?)
20:25 tome now looking much advanced
20:27 dolmen joined #padre
20:29 tome though the debugger interaction is still pretty rough. It keeps opening new blank tabs and trowing warnings on the command line...
20:33 Sewi Yeah, the debugger is pretty new.
20:33 Sewi Do you want to improve it?
20:46 tome Sewi, I'm pretty sure I don't have the time right now.
20:46 tome Just moved and working for small company, no free time
20:46 Sewi tome: Same for me :-)
20:46 Sewi (except the "just moved" :-) )
20:47 tome I'm an emacs user... I really wish someone had built a powerful perl IDE over emacs
20:48 tome But of course i don't have the time to do that.. maybe piece by piece...
21:06 Sewi There is an Padre-Plugin-Emacs
21:07 tome whoa
21:09 tome i don't see it anywhere, what does it do?
21:19 dolmen left #padre
21:22 Sewi It's on the Padre svn
21:23 Sewi Don't know what it does, never tried it myself
21:23 Sewi I'd assume it makes Padre usable like emacs
