04:48 jt hi, I installed the autodia plugin I'm on winxp, now whenever I tried to generate a diagram nothing comes out, do I need to install something else?
04:59 kaare joined #padre
05:14 szabgab jt, I am not sure how are you trying to generate the diagram, could you please detail it ?
05:16 jt szabgab: hmmn, I just click from Tools->Autodia Plugin->UML->Class Diagram
05:17 szabgab I wonder where is teejay - the author of autodia and that plugin
05:18 szabgab jt, I have not used that plugin,  maybe as a first step you might want to try the autodia.pl from the command line

07:15 Xaero Can someone put the new version on http://www.wxperl.co.uk/repository. it still shows 0.56
07:15 Xaero and can someone also tell me which version of alien-wxwidgets and wx are required for 0.6?
07:15 Xaero I got two copies of Alien-wxWidgets 0.51 and 0.51.2 and two copies of Wx 0.9701 and 0.9701.12 in PPM
07:15 Xaero i am following instruction from here: http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/DownloadActivePerl
07:15 szabgab Hi Xaero I am glad you are persistant :-)  let me try to help
07:16 Xaero been doing this everyday morning :P
07:16 szabgab yeah , I saw it in the backlog but was away working
07:17 szabgab and apparently others are also quite busy
07:18 Xaero thought so
07:18 * szabgab searching for stuff
07:18 szabgab Xaero, are you on the padre-dev mailing list ?
07:18 danlucraft joined #padre
07:18 Xaero nope
07:20 szabgab I am writing a mail there now asking Mark Dootson to release a new ppm of Padre
07:20 szabgab in case you want to follow it
07:20 Xaero ok np, will check later to see if it is up
07:21 Xaero it's not updated here: http://padre.perlide.org/download.html either, says 0.56
07:21 szabgab Alien seem to be the latest
07:21 szabgab that's CSJewell2
07:21 Xaero 0.51.2?
07:21 szabgab he is the one who builds the windows versions of it
07:21 szabgab I don't know what is that .2 doing there
07:22 Xaero the unstable ones don't go one the repository right?
07:22 szabgab there is 0.51 and 0.50.2 on CPAN
07:22 szabgab sorry ?
07:22 Xaero beta
07:23 szabgab sorry I did not understand your last question
07:23 Xaero i mean something that isn't tested
07:23 Xaero like beta releases...
07:24 daxim joined #padre
07:25 Xaero in other words is it safe to install the lastest version of a package in the repository?
07:26 szabgab Others usually follow the idea that beta or developer releases have _01  at the end of the version number
07:26 szabgab as Alien::wxWidgets has 0.50_02
07:26 szabgab repository? you mean our SVN or CPAN?
07:27 Xaero wxperl.co.uk/repository i mean
07:27 szabgab Mark just puts there stuff from CPAN, they are usually quite stable
07:27 Xaero I got two copies of Alien-wxWidgets 0.51 and 0.51.2 and two copies of Wx 0.9701 and 0.9701.12 in PPM
07:28 szabgab as we normally release stable version to CPAN though we had 2 or 3 we tagged developer release
07:28 Xaero so then i'll install the lastest version of both
07:28 szabgab are those all from wxperl.co.uk ?
07:28 Xaero yeah
07:28 szabgab then you can ask Mark why is that
07:28 Xaero who is mark?
07:29 szabgab he runs wxperl.co.uk
07:29 Xaero is he on irc?
07:29 szabgab http://search.cpan.org/~mdootson/
07:30 szabgab I think sometime he is but I don't recall his nickname now
07:30 Xaero ok no probs will do, thanks for the help
07:33 szabgab sorry it took so long
07:34 szabgab btw why don'y you try the Strawberry based stand alone Padre ?
08:13 ribasushi can someone point me to the code in padre which deals with win32 shutdowns? (there is no signal to trap apparently, want to just steal the magic :)
08:14 szabgab you mean when the computer gets shut down?
08:15 szabgab or when the applications is shut down?
08:15 ribasushi right, when you shut down windows/logout
08:15 ribasushi windows sends something to all running apps
08:15 ribasushi but it isn't a standard signal
08:15 szabgab I don't think we have  code dealing with that
08:15 ribasushi oh,... so you basically get the "program does not respond" too?
08:16 szabgab no idea, I am on Linux :-)
08:16 ribasushi so am I, writing a little rpc for win32
08:16 ribasushi and you basically can't restart such machine without a user doing ctrl+c, or hitting "kill that"
08:16 szabgab then we would be better off asking some of the windows people here
08:17 ribasushi summon windows people \o/
08:17 szabgab but none of the seem to be here or awake
08:17 ribasushi alright, I'll repoke in 6h
08:17 szabgab you might also try #win32
08:17 ribasushi szabgab: tried lready, not much response
08:18 ribasushi and I thought that padre would just be doing it
08:18 ribasushi thus asking :)
08:18 szabgab have you seen my poll about development os ?
08:18 szabgab only 13% answered windows
08:18 ribasushi yes, and I even participated
08:18 ribasushi point is (the way I see it) Padre is the window into perl for windows users so to speak
08:18 szabgab :)
08:19 ribasushi hence it got to perform like a grown up windows app
08:19 szabgab yes indeed
08:19 ribasushi hence I can still hope someone will fix it, and I'll just steal it :D
08:20 szabgab I spent about 2 hours today reading that perl 6 bashing thread on PerlMonks
08:20 shadowpaste "ribasushi" at 217.168.150.38 pasted "best info I got from #win32, but still over my head" (4 lines) at http://paste.scsys.co.uk/42642
08:20 szabgab and I am a bit tired now
08:20 ribasushi szabgab: ^^ in case you're curious
08:21 szabgab havs you asked on the #wxwidgtes channel ?
08:21 ribasushi nope
08:21 szabgab I think it is handled on that level
08:21 ribasushi I see... quite possible
08:22 szabgab and I looked at your paste
08:22 szabgab and I don't know about that at all
08:22 ribasushi ENOSUCHCHANNEL?
08:22 szabgab on some other server
08:22 ribasushi oh
08:23 ribasushi damn :)
08:23 szabgab I think freenode
08:23 ribasushi mmm how do I install win32 padre
08:23 ribasushi I'll just fucking try it :)
08:23 ribasushi cpan Padre
08:23 szabgab bes is to download the stand-alone
08:23 ribasushi or there's an msi?
08:24 szabgab do you already have perl installed ?
08:24 ribasushi yes
08:24 szabgab which perl?
08:24 ribasushi strawberry 5.8 (can't use 5.10, for other unanswered reasons)
08:24 szabgab so you could do cpan Padre and it will take a few hours , mainly due to the compilation of wx
08:25 ribasushi eeek
08:25 ribasushi no .msi ? :)
08:25 ribasushi ah there is one
08:25 szabgab there is but it is  still installs in c:\strawberry
08:25 ribasushi oh, but that's with 5.10
08:25 szabgab and it is based on 5.10.1
08:25 ribasushi right right
08:25 ribasushi ok, I'll just revisit this in some hours

09:04 kreetrapper Hi, guys
09:05 kreetrapper I just had a bug in Padre and thought I'd ask here whether it's already known or whether I should report it somewhere
09:06 szabgab shoot, or search here: http://padre.perlide.org/trac/
09:06 szabgab or both
09:06 kreetrapper first here, trac maybe later
09:06 kreetrapper okay
09:07 kreetrapper I had a small program that traversed a huge directory with File::Find and just printed out the file names
09:07 kreetrapper I started it from Padre
09:07 kreetrapper and then Padre pretty much stopped responding and hogged about 98% cpu time (according to top)
09:08 kreetrapper I let it run for about twenty minutes, but it didn't finish
09:08 kreetrapper so I had to close Padre
09:09 kreetrapper that, at least worked. I didn't have to kill it
09:09 szabgab and if you ran the same script from the command line ?
09:09 rob left #padre
09:09 kreetrapper I'm about to do that. Wait a minute
09:10 kreetrapper no problems. finished in a couple of seconds
09:12 kreetrapper it doesn't produce that much output, I think
09:12 kreetrapper $ perl dirscript.pl | wc
09:12 kreetrapper 84560
09:12 szabgab Tool/Preferenes/Run Parameter/Use external window for execution
09:13 szabgab is it checked?
09:16 kreetrapper no, it's not checked
09:16 kreetrapper there was output, actually
09:16 szabgab then pls check and try again
09:16 kreetrapper at least the first couple of lines
09:17 kreetrapper okay, I'll try again
09:17 szabgab I think the problem is that the internal "output" buffer we use cannot handle so many rows
09:18 kreetrapper yep, worked like a charm
09:18 kreetrapper ah, I see
09:18 szabgab so can you remove the check and try it on smaller results sets?
09:18 szabgab I guess the main issue is that we don't clear the buffer
09:18 kreetrapper okay
09:18 szabgab and it just takes too much memory
09:22 kreetrapper okay, here's my mini test script
09:23 kreetrapper for (1..10000) { print "----------------\n"; }
09:23 kreetrapper this is already too much for Padre
09:23 kreetrapper but it only blocks the cpu for a short time
09:23 kreetrapper maybe half a minute
09:24 szabgab I would start from 1..10
09:24 rob joined #padre
09:24 kreetrapper 1..1000 worked
09:24 szabgab so you don't need to restart it every time
09:24 szabgab ok
09:24 szabgab do you have trac account?
09:25 szabgab register?
09:25 Hyppolit register is http://padre.perlide.org/trac/register
09:25 szabgab pls register there
09:25 kreetrapper 1..9000 takes 98% cpu time for about 33 seconds
09:25 kreetrapper okay, I'll register
09:26 szabgab and let me know so I can close the registration
09:26 kreetrapper I registered and am now logged in
09:26 kreetrapper what do I have to do next?
09:26 szabgab pls open a ticket
09:26 szabgab explaining the problem
09:27 kreetrapper okay, I'm on it
09:27 szabgab I think the solution is both having a configurable limit to buffer size and maybe improving the output buffer
09:27 szabgab something we need to do anyway
09:28 szabgab and I have to go to grab lunch now, back in a few minutes
09:33 kreetrapper I've created the ticket: http://padre.perlide.org/trac/ticket/934

10:39 szabgab kreetrapper, great
10:39 szabgab so the next step is that you check out the source code and fix the bug
10:40 szabgab I can help you with the directions
10:48 kreetrapper that sounds actually like something I'd like to do
10:48 kreetrapper but probably not today on company time
10:49 kreetrapper or maybe later in the afternoon
10:50 kreetrapper how long are you online and could help me with the first steps?
10:52 marcela joined #padre
10:52 Sewi kreetrapper: Some should be here all the time. Just ask, if you need help
10:57 szabgab I closed the poll I ran last week about development operating system
10:57 szabgab and I wonder if I could run a poll on something like "where do you your information from?"
10:58 szabgab to find out what journals or blog posts people read
10:58 szabgab but I am not even sure what should be the initial list of values
10:59 szabgab any suggestions?
10:59 szabgab or shall I just ask it as an open question without actually running a poll ?
11:04 kreetrapper is there some kind of mini how-to for starting to work on Padre?
11:05 kreetrapper i.e. link to svn (or git?) repository, coding conventions and that kind of stuff
11:05 szabgab http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/Howto
11:05 submersible :)
11:05 szabgab svn?
11:05 Hyppolit svn is http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/DownloadRepository
11:05 Sewi svn?
11:05 Hyppolit svn is http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/DownloadRepository
11:06 szabgab howto?
11:06 szabgab Hyppolit, howto is http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/Howto
11:06 Hyppolit howto was unknown
11:06 Hyppolit howto is now http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/Howto
11:06 Sewi szabgab: Maybe set some common values like "twitter", "use.perl.org", "other blogs" and (for getty) "cpan" :-)
11:07 szabgab I have 1 week to work out the actual values
11:07 szabgab or maybe a bit more
11:07 szabgab so I run the poll in may
11:26 Getty when and where is GPW and what is it at all?

11:41 Getty you must get a cage for me

11:44 Getty lol why?
11:44 Getty the others dont discuss?
11:44 Getty the question is only if mst is there, cause then there is no discussion ;)
11:44 daxim no.  I keep telling people, but they've never been on a conference before and don't know what they're missing

11:46 Getty ask szabgab ;)
11:47 szabgab daxim, he is very aggressive
11:48 szabgab and he only reads CPAN
11:49 Getty lol you love that, eh? ;)
11:50 Getty he rids on my impression on CPAN
11:50 Getty whatever, i also suggest that he likes the aggression in bringing people to try perl ;)
11:51 szabgab Getty++

12:03 Getty is LanX german?
12:03 daxim yes
12:04 Getty i would personal prefer (beside if Sewi takes his reserved place lol) to take student/pupil from outside of germany who has no money
12:04 Getty cause i would care about them too, about food and transportation to location
12:04 Getty probably that way we can bring 1-2 more perl dudes to the workshop
12:04 Getty i guess LanX will come anyway ;)
12:07 szabgab just for being Getty
12:07 Getty szabgab: LOL ;)

20:18 gl I can choose any of the provided styles and they work and are displayed.  Selecting aranight, nothing
20:19 gl And the aranight style always has the black dot
20:19 gl I uninstalled and reinstlaled both Strawberry perl and Padre..  I have removed the doc and settings for my user.  No matter what I do I cannot seem to get this to work
20:20 gl are there any logs or thnigs that I can use to troubleshoot?
20:21 szabgab there is not much logging going on
20:21 szabgab or rather I shoudl say nil
20:23 gl hmm, any ideas what may be wrong?  what I can try or do to resolve this style issue?
20:23 El_Che szabgab: I was looking at the source and the wx doc to understand folding of code. I still haven't figured out how keywords are defined (i.e. how does it know it has to fold a sub)
20:23 El_Che any pointers?
20:23 szabgab but I am not sure what is "aranight"
20:23 szabgab El_Che,  no idea
20:24 szabgab isn't it just folding blocks?
20:24 gl aranight is a style written by another user.  You can download and install it from here: http://samdelacruz.blogspot.com/2009/08/how-to-install-aranight-color-theme.html
20:24 El_Che As I haven't touched the code in months to an extreme lack of time, I thought to pick up some low hanging fruit from trac. No luck with my first fruit :)
20:24 El_Che s/to/due
20:25 szabgab wow I don't  recall seeing that!
20:25 gl it is a great dark theme, much better then the ones provided out of the box.
20:26 szabgab yeah, I have not seen that blog
20:27 szabgab let me try it and we certainly should integrate it into padre if the author is ok with it
20:28 szabgab actually, no, I am just too tired for this now
20:31 Hyppolit svn: r11378 | szabgab++ | http://padre.perlide.org/trac/changeset/11378
20:31 Hyppolit add blog entry about aranight
20:31 Hyppolit trunk/template.padre.perlide.org/data/
20:33 gl changed the properties of the new style to read only, seems to now work.
20:34 gl anyway to have Padre default to opening the last open session (or file)?
20:35 szabgab tools/Preferences/open files
20:37 gl I don't have an open files selection
20:38 gl argh
20:38 gl found it, I am an idiot sometimes
