08:13 zenog kthakore: If you consistently get this crash, please report it as a ticket, even if no-one else here can reproduce it; with complete version information (Perl, Wx, etc., see the About window ...)
08:13 zenog kthakore: For me, it does not crash when I hold the mouse down and press ctrl-c

08:47 zenog Hi Xaero
08:47 Xaero hiya
09:24 zenog I think I also have problems with "Search help" and F1, at least under certain circumstances.
09:25 zenog And I also have the crash on CPAN module installation from withing Padre.

09:48 waxhead evening all
09:48 zenog hi waxhead
09:49 waxhead zenog, busy with things I see... :)
09:49 * waxhead reads the logs at work when he has time
09:49 zenog waxhead: Just small things ...
09:49 waxhead zenog, all make a difference though!
09:50 zenog Yes, one step at a time, even if small, will make Padre better.
09:50 waxhead there's plenty of little things that need doing to improve Padre..
09:51 waxhead trouble is, they are getting buried deeper and deeper in the internals
10:22 zenog lunch &
11:18 waxhead Xaero, so in the cpan client... have you tried a "simple" clean Alien::wxWidgets  ?
11:19 Xaero what is "simple"?
11:19 Xaero this is what I did:
11:20 Xaero got strawberryperl5.12 zip file, extracted it to C:\strawberry
11:20 waxhead Xaero, why not the msi file?
11:20 Xaero coz i have active perl too
11:20 waxhead the msi file would make sure that any paths and env vars would be set right
11:21 Xaero I added them manually
11:21 waxhead Xaero, mixed setups a always going to cause you pain
11:21 waxhead specially with dlls' and stuff
11:21 waxhead so when you type perl --version what shows up?  strawberry or activestate?
11:22 Xaero perl 5.12
11:22 waxhead personally.. when you've having problems, simplify... remove any and all perls and get to a point where oyu know you only hvae one perl installed
11:22 Xaero do you want to see the env variables?
11:22 waxhead built by who?  strawberry or activestate?
11:23 Hyppolit svn: r11425 | zenogantner++ | http://padre.perlide.org/trac/changeset/11425
11:23 Hyppolit initial version of LaTeX - doesn't do anything yet except for buggy comment handling
11:23 Hyppolit trunk/ trunk/Padre-Plugin-LaTeX/ trunk/Padre-Plugin-LaTeX/lib/Padre/ trunk/Padre-Plugin-LaTeX/lib/Padre/Document/ trunk/Padre-Plugin-LaTeX/lib/Padre/Plugin/ trunk/Padre-Plugin-LaTeX/t/
11:23 waxhead usally you'll see something int he --version output that tells you it's active state or strawberry
11:23 Xaero on my computer, i manually removed activeperl and replaced them with the strawberry paths as specified in the README
11:24 shadowpaste "Xaero" at 217.168.150.38 pasted "Env var" (1 line) at http://paste.scsys.co.uk/43235
11:24 Xaero evn variables ^
11:24 Xaero *enviornment variabled (dunno the spelling)
11:24 Hyppolit svn: r11426 | zenogantner++ | http://padre.perlide.org/trac/changeset/11426
11:24 Hyppolit gettext-ified some messages
11:24 Hyppolit trunk/Padre-Plugin-SVN/ trunk/Padre-Plugin-SVN/lib/Padre/Plugin/
11:25 Xaero after I did then first thing I did was to open the cpan shell cmd> "cpan"
11:25 Xaero install Alien::wxWidgets
11:28 Xaero it failed but because it was a huge process i missed a part of the log so then I followed the instructions from http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/DownloadStrawberryPerl
11:29 Xaero but since I have 5.12 installed did the second set on instructions:
11:29 Xaero cpan> look Alien::wxWidgets <- worked fine
11:29 Xaero $ perl Makefile.PL < worked fine
11:30 Xaero $ dmake <- didn't work http://paste.scsys.co.uk/43204
11:30 Xaero so someone said i was supposed to tell CSJewell about it and I did
11:31 Xaero then you asked me about the installation....
11:34 waxhead was curis able to give you any ideas?
11:39 Xaero nope, he went to bed
11:40 Xaero said he'll wake up and take a look at it
11:45 waxhead Xaero, well that's something I guess
11:46 Xaero i was able to install Win32::Console from the cpan shell so it does work
11:46 waxhead what's that? building modules?
11:47 waxhead do yo have all the deps installed for wx to build?
11:47 waxhead when you look and do a perl Makefile.PL, are there any missing dependacies?
11:47 Xaero i don't think so, alien wxwidgets is the first one i tried
11:47 waxhead I seem to recall there are a few
11:47 Xaero lemme check
11:47 waxhead look again
11:47 waxhead do a make clean
11:47 waxhead or dmake clean
11:48 waxhead then run perl Makefile.PL
11:48 waxhead and see what's missing, if anything
11:49 Xaero ok will try that in a while
11:49 Xaero brb
11:50 waxhead ok
11:50 puosua joined #padre
11:51 Xaero on second thought I do it right now
11:51 Xaero ...while you are here :P
11:53 waxhead ok
11:55 waxhead I'm around.. trying to get something else working.. so in and out
11:56 Xaero should i do make clean, dmake clean or gmake clean?
12:08 waxhead dmake clean
12:09 waxhead that's what comes with strawberry
12:10 Xaero but you see that error in http://paste.scsys.co.uk/43204?
12:10 Xaero it says gmake :S
12:12 Xaero ok I did dmake clean anyway, it says:
12:12 Xaero dmake:  Error: -- Don't know how to make `clean'
12:12 jq joined #padre
12:12 waxhead Xaero, that's fine.. just means there's no make file
12:12 waxhead so now do dmake
12:13 waxhead hang on...
12:13 waxhead perl Makefile.PL
12:13 waxhead actually.. is it a make file or build.pl?
12:13 Xaero dunno if it's important but last time I ran this i created a folder C:\strawberry\cpan\build\Alien-wxWidgets-0.51-SbckqQ
12:14 Xaero now when i did look it created C:\strawberry\cpan\build\Alien-wxWidgets-0.51-Uaca1j
12:15 waxhead dunno.. it shold all be self contained
12:15 waxhead likely just temp dirs
12:15 Xaero do you think a clean installation of perl will help?
12:21 waxhead Xaero, sure.. if you don't need activestate, then remove it, and clean install strawberry
12:24 Xaero i don't need activeperl if strawberry works
12:24 waxhead Xaero, strawberry works well...
12:24 waxhead been using it for a long time now...
12:25 Xaero i mean works for me, like installing stuff :D

12:31 jagd zenog:  Hi
12:34 zenog hi jagd
12:38 Xaero is it not possible to install Alien wx widgets with "install" instead of look, makefile, dmake, .....?
12:42 daxim Xaero, Alien-wxWidgets comes with a Build.PL
12:42 daxim you should prefer to use that if both Build.PL and Makefile.PL are available
12:43 Xaero isn't it possible to just cpan> install Alien::wxWidgets and get it installed?
12:43 daxim you can configure the cpan client to observe this preference during automated installations:
12:43 daxim o conf prefer_installer MB
12:43 marcela joined #padre
12:44 daxim Xaero, I do so (on Linux) and it gets installed without further manual steps
12:45 jagd zenog:  i 've seen that you updated the Instruction for Gentoo.  Are you using Gentoo?
12:48 zenog jagd: No, I just saw that it was out of date.
12:49 zenog jagd: God forbid, I have better things to do than compiling stuff all day ;-)
12:52 puosua joined #padre
12:53 zenog Hi puosua
12:54 puosua Thanks omah reported the same 'help' and 'F1' issue and the solution. I installed PO2::Base and now 'help' and 'F1' work fine on my WinXP.
12:57 zenog I just saw that the help search is case sensitive.
12:57 zenog Wouldn't it be better case insensitive?
12:58 zenog Or rather, are there scenarios in which you definitely want case sensitivity?
12:58 zenog Right now, you don't find anything if you enter "Perl" or "padre".
13:00 zenog I am referring to "Help" and "Search Help", not to "Context Help".
13:01 zenog Another thing: Help also offers search functionality. Does it make sense to have a specific menu item "Search Help"?
13:01 puosua zenog: 'help' or 'F1' is not case sensitive. I can find help with either 'Perldoc' or 'perldoc'
13:02 puosua Solution to fix 'help' not working: http://padre.perlide.org/trac/ticket/939
13:03 puosua Couldn't development team add POD2::Base as prerequisite for Padre?
13:05 zenog puosua: (1) This could be a difference between Windows and Linux.
13:05 zenog puosua: (2) I think it is fixed in Subversion, and thus will be fixed in the next release.
13:06 zenog Makefile.PL contains the line "requires 'POD2::Base'               => '0.043';"
13:08 zenog puosua: Was fixed in r11402
13:08 Hyppolit Changeset #11402 http://padre.perlide.org/trac/changeset/11402
13:16 puosua Since I install Padre on WinXP using the official MSI package, I don't look into the source code. Good to see the POD2::Base dependency in included in the furture release.
13:19 szabgab I think making the help case insensitive would be good
13:19 szabgab we don't want to force educate the windows users :-)
13:21 zenog szabgab: Seems like it is not case insensitive on Windows ... but anyway, it's a small thing ;-)
13:29 puosua szabgab: It's a MUST to be always 'case sensitive' while writting any script, no matter which OS used. However, to 'search' information would be good to be 'case insensitive'. I personally cannot keep enough buffer in my brain to remember the keywords with uppercase or lowercase. If Google only provides 'case sensitive' searching, it's chaos. But it's great to keep it as optional filter....
13:29 puosua ...This is just my opinion. I'm happy to learn Perl with Padre udner Windows.

18:59 sawyer__ hey
18:59 awnstudio joined #padre
19:00 sawyer__ a few comments of Padre 0.60: when it is installs, it creates the .padre folder on the home user
19:00 sawyer__ but since you install under a privileged mode or user (different - hopefully - from your regular work), the folder will be created with the privileged ownership
19:00 sawyer__ that means that when padre tries to write the db, it fails since it's read only
19:01 szabgab we had this bug once, apparently someone created a new test that does this
19:01 sawyer__ i suggest creating it on first run instead of on install time
19:01 szabgab that does not set the PADRE_HOME variable during test
19:04 sawyer__ also, under Tools -> Preferences -> Highlighter, the description for PPI standard and PPI experimental are backwards
19:05 sawyer__ overall (and this is another comment i wanted to make), Padre really fucking impressed my students :)
19:05 szabgab thanks sawyer__ but this is supposed to be a child safe channel :-)
19:06 sawyer__ ah
19:06 sawyer__ *really freaking impressed... :)
19:19 PerlJam sawyer__: the hard part is the second 90%  :)
