02:38 run4flat szabgab: could you do me a favor and briefly kick hyppolit_pdl off the channel?
02:39 run4flat szabgab: the PDL channel, that is
02:39 run4flat szabgab: that will allow piddlebot to regain ops

12:37 rindolf run4flat: hi.
12:37 run4flat hello rindolf
12:37 rindolf run4flat: hi.
12:37 rindolf run4flat: any luck with #pdl?
12:37 run4flat rindolf: I've signed piddlebot and myself off
12:37 run4flat give it a sec
12:37 rindolf OK, no worries.
12:37 run4flat Well, hyppolit does not appear to be cycling
12:38 run4flat or maybe hyppolit needs more time
12:38 run4flat I'll give it (him?) a minute this time
12:38 run4flat For anybody else who is curious, we have a copy of Hyppolit running on #pdl
12:38 run4flat We've lost ops
12:39 run4flat and I'm hoping Hyppolit will cycle if it finds itself alone
12:39 run4flat Hyppolit knows me, at least, and should give me ops if it regains ops itself
12:39 run4flat ok, ridolf
12:39 run4flat no joy
12:40 run4flat rindolf: see you back on #pdl
12:41 rindolf run4flat: should I join it now?
12:41 run4flat yeah

14:15 run4flat hello everybody
14:15 run4flat Quick question about CPAN install
14:16 run4flat Having already started the CPAN install, is there a way to tell CPAN to automatically follow dependencies?
14:16 run4flat Or, is there a clean way to break out of the current CPAN install chain and set the configuration, and then pick up where I left off?
14:18 Sewi o conf dependency_policy=follow
14:19 run4flat Sewi: yep, that's the command
14:19 Sewi (From brain, may be wrong)
14:19 run4flat I can double check
14:19 Sewi But I think you need to break
14:19 run4flat yeah, I need to get back to the cpan> prompt
14:20 run4flat If I hit CTRL-C at one of the "... should I follow?" prompts, it interprets that as 'no' and keeps going
14:20 user_5555 joined #padre
14:21 run4flat maybe two CTRL-C in a row will do it
14:21 run4flat I just remember attempting something like this and having to install a whole bunch of dependencies by hand
14:25 user_5555 heelo !
14:26 user_5555 i'm lazy to look at google : how to debug script with some @ARGV
14:26 user_5555 ?
14:28 run4flat user_5555: use print statements?
14:28 run4flat print "$_\n" foreach (@ARGV);
14:28 run4flat that should list all the incoming arguments
14:29 user_5555 no, i'd like to run a script with arguments in debugger
14:29 user_5555 in Padre
14:29 run4flat got it
14:29 run4flat I'd help, except I don't have access to Padre at the moment.
14:30 run4flat and I don't know off the top of my head
14:31 user_5555 so bad
14:44 user_5555 ...
14:44 user_5555 I dont find the doc about the Debug plugin in Padre!
14:44 user_5555 does anyone know where is the doc?

14:49 quim hi there
14:50 [Sno] joined #padre
14:52 quim any dev for a quick question?
14:53 daxim don't ask to ask, just ask
14:53 quim :)
14:53 quim does padre support something like zen-coding? (http://code.google.com/p/zen-coding/)
14:54 run4flat joined #padre
14:54 run4flat Sewi: turns out that if you hit CTRL-C a bunch of times when it asks you a question, you can cleanly break out of the install process
14:54 quim i've got a small module that uses Regexp::Grammars and parses and expands such expressions, which i will try to submit to cpan at some point
14:55 run4flat Sewi: then, you can just 'install Padre' later and it picks up where it left off
14:55 quim the thing is that i thought it might also be a nice addon for padre. I did not find anything similar, but i wanted to ask before trying to turn it into a padre plugin

16:58 Xaero what is damian conway, heard about him somewhere
16:58 Xaero sorry s/what/who/:P
17:01 Xaero look it's a conspiracy! http://www.oreillynet.com/onlamp/blog/2005/12/python_creator_guido_van_rossu.html
17:01 Xaero i knew it when they choose mercurial over git >:]
17:02 Xaero ...for google code hosting
17:36 sjn Xaero: Damien is one of the crazy people in the Perl community :)
17:36 sjn The "Mad Professor" of Perl
17:37 sjn his modules are ingenious and insane at the same time
17:37 sjn but he's added increadibly useful things and concepts to the Perl 5/6 and CPAN codebases over the years
17:38 sjn and if you ever get a chance to attend one of his presentations, just drop everything else and do it
17:38 Xaero is he mad in a good way or bad way?
17:39 rindolf Xaero: both.
17:39 rindolf Xaero: well, in a good way primarily.
17:39 sjn yep. :)
17:39 rindolf Though his modules tend to accumulate bugs.
17:39 rindolf Due to lack of maintenance.
17:40 rindolf Xaero: have you read Perl Best Practices?
17:40 Xaero nope, yet to read Learning Perl
17:41 [Sno] joined #padre
17:41 rindolf Xaero: ah.
17:41 rindolf Xaero: I haven't read LP either.
17:42 rindolf Xaero: but I've read Programming Perl, 3rd edition.
17:42 Xaero then what did you read?
17:42 rindolf Xaero: I've learned Perl from the perldocs.
17:42 rindolf Before they were called that.
17:42 rindolf perl*.pod
17:42 rindolf man perl<something>
17:42 Xaero Programming perl is perldoc.zip :P
17:42 rindolf I originally downloaded them as a large PDF.
17:42 rindolf Xaero: perldoc.zip?
17:43 Xaero compressed perldoc
17:43 rindolf Xaero: ah.
17:43 rindolf Xaero: hmmm....
17:43 Xaero i've read about 15 perdoc pages but don't understand much
17:43 Xaero it's too technical
17:44 sjn Xaero: perldoc perlintro
17:45 Xaero perlintro and perlsyn are the only two I enjoyed reading
17:45 Xaero they actually made sense
17:45 rindolf Xaero: maybe you'd prefer http://perl-begin.org/
17:45 rindolf Xaero: I actually worked on revamping some of the perldocs
17:46 Xaero i've read Impatiet Perl
17:46 sjn Xaero: perldoc perltoc is also useful
17:46 rindolf Though I covered only the basics.
17:47 sjn Xaero: you should stay with the 5.12 docs though
17:47 Xaero i think the highly technical nature of perldoc and most discussions being linux specific makes it hard to new programmers to learn perl
17:47 rindolf Xaero: Linux-specific?
17:48 Xaero are you on linux?
17:49 rindolf Xaero: yes, I am.
17:49 rindolf Xaero: but the perldocs may be UNIX-specific , but they are certainly not Linux-specific.
17:49 rindolf Linux is just one flavour of UNIX.
17:49 Xaero yeah that's what I meant :P
17:50 rindolf Xaero: OK.
17:50 Xaero almost everyone is *nix user, if you have a problem on windows with perl you have to be good at googling stuff :P
17:51 Xaero thank god for strawberry perl, the activeperl forums are dead
17:51 rindolf Xaero: ah.
17:51 Xaero you'll get like 1 reply a week
17:53 Xaero which is in part reponsible for python taking over the linux and mac guys :(
17:53 rindolf Xaero: there's also Stack Overflow now.
17:53 rindolf And Perlmonks.
17:53 Xaero Stack Overflow? like perl specific?
18:07 LeK joined #padre
18:07 rindolf Xaero: it has a perl tag.
18:07 rindolf Which I follow.
18:07 Xaero ah like reddit
18:07 rindolf Xaero: Stack overflow is a question-and-answers site about programming.
18:12 Xaero http://po-ru.com/diary/ruby-propaganda/ xD
18:12 Xaero i was searching for info on scripting languages on VM's
18:12 Xaero that's all i find
