05:43 azawawi CSJewell: hi there ... does it have mingw32-make.exe?
05:43 CSJewell Let me check, just a second.
05:44 CSJewell Yes, it does.
05:44 azawawi CSJewell: since that's needed by rakudo
05:44 azawawi CSJewell: great
05:45 CSJewell Does it matter what it's called as long as you have a 'gmake' executable? Because the normal Strawberry 5.12 versions call it something else. Can't recall what @ the moment.
05:45 azawawi CSJewell: why is "Win32 strawberryperl 5.12.0.1 #1 Thu May  6 16:09:27 2010 i386" without one? Any idea?
05:45 Hyppolit #1: Improve load time (closed defect) [ http://padre.perlide.org/trac/ticket/1#comment:5 ]
05:46 CSJewell azawawi: See above.
05:46 azawawi CSJewell: i see... it matters to rakudo build...
05:46 CSJewell gmake.exe is the name for 5.12 versions.
05:47 azawawi CSJewell: let me try building it via rakudo... maybe i can make them a patch
05:49 CSJewell It got renamed since it's not the gmake from the mingw32 project (we aren't using their compilers and toolchain for 5.12, we're using the mingw64 compilers/toolchain - the provide both 32 and 64 bit versions, and we wanted the compilers to match for both 32 and 64 bit.)
05:52 azawawi I see. Thanks for the explanation.
05:52 CSJewell Maybe a little longer than that - I've got 4 hours, 26 minutes left on my upload of the .msi, and 5 hrs 53 mins for the .zip.
05:52 CSJewell Speaking of which, has anybody tried building a 64-bit rakudo?
05:53 szabgab hi

06:02 szabgab CSJewell: better ask it on #perl6 on freenode, there are a bit more rakudo users
06:02 azawawi CSJewell: mingw32-make is read from parrot config's so rakudo does not decide on that...

10:17 Casan CSJewell, I'm downloading alpha2 from the link provided. is there an overview page somewhere with all strawberry perl professional releases/information?
10:20 chorny Casan: it should be on http://strawberryperl.com/beta/
10:21 LeK joined #padre
10:22 Casan chorny, thanks, I found it in the bottom now.
10:23 chorny It is for Alpha 1
10:24 Casan yep, noticed. will be updated when all uploads are completed I guess.
10:30 Casan installs nicely, and padre 0.64 up and running. grats.
10:35 Casan the userinterface is in French. (I am using a computer with a Danish keyboard, with an English version of Vista) I've specified France as my location, and Padre may have detected that to choose the language. a common mistake, many apps do that. But if there is a way to detect language for the userinterface based on the keyboard or other setting, instead of the location, that would be more appropriate.
10:35 Casan imho
10:38 Casan or maybe better yet, allow the user to select language upon installation.
10:38 Casan default to detected.
10:40 Casan question: now Padre is open, with a French user interface,  how to I change the language to English?
10:42 chorny do you know French?
10:42 Casan very little
10:42 Casan I just live here
10:43 Casan but if the locations in the menubar are similar across languages, then if you know where to change the language, maybe you can guide me.
10:43 chorny "View" - 4-th menu from start, "language" - 2nd from bottom,
10:44 Casan perfect. langue.. got it ;)
10:44 chorny Affichage//Langue/Anglais

12:15 chorny kaare: Can you release new version of Padre::Plugin::PerlCritic, considering https://rt.cpan.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=59680
12:17 kaare Yeah, I saw that. Anyway, it will be later, just came home 2 AM after driving a full day
12:17 * kaare is a bit lazy today
12:20 kaare - and I still wonder why someone changed from Module::Build to Module::Install
12:22 Alias Ease of maintenance
12:23 Alias Also, Module::Build doesn't bootstrap
12:24 Alias So if you care about older Perl versions, Module::Build doesn't work quite as well
12:25 Steffen Alias, it can do that nowadays via bundling.
12:25 Alias Sure, but that's only a recent thing
12:27 Steffen Yes. But since it bootstraps, it doesn't matter when people came up with it.
12:27 szabgab what about just starting to require perl 5.10 ?
12:27 Steffen Just saying: It works now. (inc::latest)
12:27 Steffen I wouldn't do that yet.
12:28 szabgab probably not, but it is so funny how we try to get companies to upgrade and we are still allowing old perls, of course that's not the same
12:30 Hyppolit svn: r11996 | adamk++ | http://padre.perlide.org/trac/changeset/11996

12:30 Alias szabgab, in current releases Oracle ships with 5.8.3. RedHat ships with 5.8.8, and something else important (I forget what) ships with 5.8.5
12:31 Alias You pretty much HAVE to support a 10 year historical release set
12:32 Alias Padre::Wx::Nth is where we should be moving things like the "How did you hear about Perl" logic
12:33 eilara szabga: will not be in PyWeb meeting tomorrow, moving my apartment to Givataim
12:42 kthakore HI HI
12:55 Alias So next year, Padre should automatically popup and ask people if they want to join the channel for the party

12:59 Alias waxhead is our release manager

13:27 szabgab the question of course if the they would ever install Padre on the system perl?
13:27 szabgab or they need a downloadable full binary anyway?

13:27 Alias But yes, on RedHat they might
13:28 El_Che szabgab: if specific padre: system perl is not threaded on solaris

15:30 Steffen Which is why "cpan Padre" is preferable.

20:39 chorny Do I understand correctly that Padre autocompletes only something that is in the same document?
20:43 Sewi Currently yes, but...
20:43 Sewi 1. if you use perlctags, everything within the tagfile will be used
20:43 Sewi 2. if you add something to the list of autocomplete words, it 'll use the complete list

22:09 chorny If seems that Wx::DirPickerCtrl upgrades data to utf8
22:16 zenog_ chorny: Does that cause problems?
22:16 chorny yes, Padre dies when I'm trying to save Preferences
22:18 zenog_ Can you describe step by step how to make it crash?
22:20 chorny Launch Padre. Tools/Preferences. press "Save". Padre dies.
22:23 zenog_ Not for me.
22:23 chorny Do you have Windows in English?
22:23 zenog_ Which version? Trunk? 0.66? Which platform?
22:24 zenog_ Nope.
22:24 zenog_ Anyone here with Windows?

22:26 zenog_ chorny: Theoretically, the data should be in utf8 anyway, or?
22:26 chorny As I see, "My documents" in Russian is converted into utf8 and later checked for existence. I'm testing on trunk, Windows XP Russian.
22:27 chorny And Perl on Windows does not allow using uft8 in file names
22:27 zenog_ Really?
22:27 zenog_ Strange.

23:25 waxhead at what time does the party end?
23:25 waxhead I'm not working today, so if Padre is stable enough, I'll do a "party" release...
