09:15 user_3926 using .63 - how do i install plugins I have downloaded?
09:32 Sewi hi
09:32 Sewi Did you download them via CPAN?
09:36 user_3926 Yes, and I think I figured it out, although I do think the Help file could have some entries on plug-ins.  I finally found something under "Modules," which wins the non-obvious prize for today.
09:58 Nanoprobe where are the help topics stored for the help -> help menu?
09:58 Nanoprobe i just get a blank new window
10:05 waxhead Nanoprobe, are you on linux?
10:06 Nanoprobe yeah
10:07 waxhead can you perldoc -f split?
10:07 waxhead in a shell
10:07 Nanoprobe ok
10:08 Nanoprobe No documentation found for "perlfunc".
10:09 waxhead what distro?
10:09 waxhead debian based or rpm?
10:09 waxhead either way you need to intsall the perldoc
10:09 waxhead also try F2 not F1
10:10 waxhead there are two helps at the moment...
10:10 waxhead F1 does look rather broken at the moment...
10:10 waxhead which isn't good
10:11 Nanoprobe ubuntu
10:11 Nanoprobe i'd love to try to fix it, but i'm having trouble mapping it out
10:11 Nanoprobe how do i install the perldocs?
10:13 Nanoprobe i wanted to try to make a "contents" page or something for the padre help
10:13 Nanoprobe if there wasn't one
10:14 waxhead Nanoprobe, sudo apt-get install perldoc
10:14 waxhead Nanoprobe, both the helps use code to read in the perldoc on the system  I think...
10:14 Nanoprobe dosen't exist on my system...
10:14 Nanoprobe ah ha! perl-doc >.<
10:14 waxhead I fiddled about with the F1 implementation a while ago, but clearly things have changed and broken since
10:15 waxhead Nanoprobe, oh.. sorry... I just guessed at it..
10:15 waxhead you can do this:
10:15 waxhead sudo su
10:15 waxhead then you are root
10:15 waxhead then apt-cache search perldoc
10:15 waxhead or if you want apt-cache search perl | grep -i doc
10:15 waxhead once you have the right package then apt-get install
10:16 waxhead you don't need to be root to search the apt-cache though
10:16 Nanoprobe i'm installing it now..
10:16 waxhead also, you can use synaptic in your System/Admin menu
10:16 Nanoprobe what would it take to make a padre help thats not a system perldoc?
10:16 waxhead Nanoprobe, how so, like a chm on windows?
10:17 waxhead I think the point of the helps is that they let you use the installed modules perl doc.
10:17 Nanoprobe i'm not talking about the technology, but about a padre-centered help which helps with the menus and stuff
10:17 waxhead like tool tips for all the menu items?
10:18 Nanoprobe like Ctrl-H gives you padre help (understanding menus, settings, extentions, etc..)
10:21 waxhead Dunno... as in context sensitive?
10:21 Nanoprobe let me show you an example...

11:17 waxhead Nanoprobe, oh.. that's just straight up html...
11:17 waxhead so like a web page/site to cover things off?
11:17 waxhead Nanoprobe, if you checked out trunk, not just trunk/Padre, the padre.perlide.org web site is under trunk...
11:26 szabgab I think we should get rid of F1 and move all the help capabilities to F2
11:26 szabgab and then rename it to F1 :)
11:26 szabgab and write some tests to make sure they keep working next week as well
11:30 waxhead szabgab, agreed.. F2 help is heaps better.
11:30 waxhead does it do POD from modules though?
11:30 waxhead I can't recall...
11:31 waxhead anyway, bed..

16:25 zenog hi guys
16:27 zenog Is there a nice example somewhere for adding autocompletion for a language in Padre.
16:27 zenog There is AC for Perl, but I would like to add to the LaTeX plugin.
16:27 zenog possibly depending on which packages were imported

17:04 dialog hi all.
17:04 dialog anyone know how to change the port Padre is listening on in Windows
17:04 dialog ?
17:09 zenog dialog: What do you exactly mean by that?
17:09 zenog For which kind of feature?
17:09 dialog when using Padre on windows, I see that the process is using port 4444
17:10 dialog so when I start the selenium server that also runs on that port it complains that it's already in use
17:11 dialog so what I want to do is change the port for padre, since other test developers are also using port 4444 for their servers
17:14 dialog zenog: is this clearer?

17:22 zenog Okay, let me see.

17:24 zenog Now let's see what the number does there.

21:54 bdr_multi msi crashing on both install and uninstall; cpan "upgrade Padre" results in "gcc not a working compiler... Make had some problems" "perl\bin\perl.exe MakeFile.PL returned status 512." gcc is installed (mingw-w32) and unblocked, but probably not in registry. All on Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]

23:30 Alias_ bdr_multi: gcc ships with Strawberry, probably shouldn't need to install it separately
23:30 Alias_ bdr_multi: Can you PasteBin the entire output of the installation process?

23:38 bdr_multi P.S. There's also a copy of gcc in "strawberry\c" that is unblocked and appears ready to go, but the file size for Padre was 45 bytes.  This is extremely frustrating.
23:39 bdr_multi That last post is erroneous. I said that the error referenced a memory location ending in  8368 (preceeded by a lot of zeroes).  More to come....
23:40 bdr_multi Meanwhile, I cleared the registry of mentions of "strawberry" and tried to re-install 0.63.  Looked good, but the file size for Padre was 45 bytes.  This is what is extremely frustrating.
23:41 bdr_multi I should also mention that I tried the "msiexec" (or whatever) trick to generate a process file, and that command is not in my windows system.
23:42 bdr_multi In short, nothing that any website has suggested has worked, and I am now completely without either Padre or a working Perl installation.
23:46 Alias joined #padre
23:50 bdr_multi Just tried to install the 0.43 almost-six-pack, and it was going well until I got an "unknown exception 0xc00000d at 0x100040b0" error.  The wizard says it finished, but there is no Padre executable, and the Perl executable is 14 K
23:54 Alias hrm
23:54 Alias That's rather old
23:54 Alias About 30 releases behind
23:54 Alias What OS?
23:55 Alias i.e. which windows
23:55 bdr_multi Win 7 ultimate
23:57 Alias Are you trying to get Perl 6 specifically, or just Padre in general
23:57 bdr_multi btw, did get a reported "successful unistall", with no errors, from the "almost-six....msi."  Meanwhile, trying an uninstall of "strawberry-perl-5.12.2.0" - and no errors this time.
23:58 bdr_multi I am trying to get a working Padre installation, and the perl 6 plug-in[s] to go with it, so I can write Perl 5 programs and learn Perl 6 in the meantime.
23:59 bdr_multi OK, it appears that the uninstall process went clean, this time.  Should I try the "amost-six" (even though it's an older version of Padre) or my 0.63 and try upgrading again later?
