20:25 Vaibhav hey
20:25 Vaibhav has anybody worked on LWP classeS?
20:26 Sewi on? I don't think, but "with", yes :-)
20:26 Vaibhav :)
20:26 Vaibhav cool...
20:27 Vaibhav I am trying to retreive a link's html using LWP...but the last_modified header is returned a sundef
20:27 Vaibhav as undef*
20:27 Vaibhav I need to get the last modified time of a URL...
20:27 Vaibhav is there any way I can do that?
20:28 Sewi I'm pretty sure there is :)
20:30 Vaibhav @sewi do u know how?
20:30 Sewi Just looking at the LWP docu...
20:30 Vaibhav ok
20:30 Sewi http://search.cpan.org/~gaas/libwww-perl-6.02/lib/LWP.pm#An_Example

20:31 Vaibhav how does this help
20:31 Vaibhav this does not help me...
20:31 Vaibhav I am beyond this example dear
20:32 Sewi Oh , it does :) Even if it could be more detailed.
20:32 Vaibhav ??/
20:32 Sewi You should copy the example to a file and print $res at the end of the file.
20:32 perlite_ joined #padre
20:33 Sewi You'll learn which module is being used for the response.
20:33 Vaibhav The url I am trying to extract...
20:33 Vaibhav I need the last modified time of it
20:33 Vaibhav the $response->last_modified() should give me its value
20:33 Vaibhav but it does not
20:34 mike Is it possible to have Padre highlight interpolated variables? "It makes it easier to see $vars"
20:34 Vaibhav because if u try to retreive a dynamic webpage it returns undef
20:35 Sewi what is undef?
20:35 Sewi oh sorry
20:35 Vaibhav undef is undefined in perl...
20:35 Sewi No, I missed your previous lines :)
20:36 perlite left #padre
20:36 Sewi If the (dynamic) website doesn't return a last-modified header (and few scripts do), the value is undef.
20:36 perlite_ is now known as perlite
20:36 Sewi Try curl -i 'http://your.url/path/script' | less
20:36 Sewi and look at the header being returned.
20:37 Vaibhav lemme check
20:37 Sewi gnett :)
20:38 Sewi sorry, wrong window :(
20:38 k2t0f12d joined #padre
20:40 Vaibhav naaa
20:40 Vaibhav this also does not return last modified time in header
20:42 Sewi So it isn't a Perl problem at all :)
20:42 Sewi last-modified is usually the mtime of the file on disk.
20:42 Sewi But for dynamic pages, it won't make any sense to return the script file's mtime :-)
20:43 Vaibhav don't need the script file's mtime
20:43 Vaibhav need the time when the content of the URL last changed...
20:44 Sewi Yeah, but you won't get this information.
20:45 Sewi Only if the script would return it, but you just proved that it doesn't. Either update the script, write the author of the script or accept that you don't have that date :)
20:45 Vaibhav there should be a way to get that info
20:46 Sewi You think that this information actually exists, but this is usually a wrong assumption for dynamic content.
20:46 Vaibhav this information should exist
20:47 Sewi "should" and "does" are two different things :)
20:47 Vaibhav because everything cannot be stored in a file...
20:47 Sewi $a + $b = 42
20:47 Vaibhav I am not here for lessons dear
20:47 Vaibhav I know wat u r talking about
20:47 Sewi Tell me the values of $a and $b. You can't because this information doesn't exist.
20:48 Sewi Up to my experience with developing, you got two options:
20:48 Sewi a) Accept that this information is not there.
20:48 Sewi b) Try everything to get this information and finally end up at a) after some hours or days.
20:48 Sewi :-)
20:49 Vaibhav thanks!
20:49 Vaibhav I learnt a big lesson on human psychology
20:50 Sewi Sorry, I didn't want to make you mad.
20:52 mike Can someone please file a bug for me? Padre should highlight variables interpolated into strings, and it doesn't (with any of the highlighters).
20:52 Sewi mike: Sorry, I didn't get your question earlier.
20:52 mike it's fine
20:53 Sewi It _might_ be a Scintilla related problem and we're working on a Scintilla upgrade, but a bug report would be fine anyway.
20:54 Sewi Please register? using this URL and file your bug report.
20:54 Sewi register?
20:54 Hyppolit register is http://padre.perlide.org/trac/register
20:54 Sewi There is the URL
20:55 mike Sewi: As I mentioned, none of the available highlighters do this. Also, I'm a lazy person, and I hate trac. I'm not interested in registering.
