07:42 macroz could anyone help me with padre installation?
07:42 macroz I'm on ubuntu 11.04, and installing padre from cpan. I have issue with Capture-Tiny dependency.
07:42 macroz "Building and testing Capture-Tiny-0.10 ... FAIL"
07:42 macroz Did anyone have such issue?
07:48 szabgab macroz: yes
07:48 szabgab it was reported recently that the latest Capture::Tiny has issues
07:48 szabgab can you install an earlier version?
07:49 szabgab garu: I am not sure Padre is prepared for that already but if you start writing a translated version then someone will figure out how to use it
07:49 szabgab maybe it will be you :)
07:50 szabgab btw I might move that file to the Code::Explain module later on
07:50 szabgab so it can be used outside of Padre
07:51 szabgab for example here http://cpandb.org/
07:56 macroz szabgab: I tried to download and install Capture-Tiny-0.09.  But it fails with the same errors (in  t/08-stdin-closed.t)
07:57 macroz should I try 0.08? :)
08:00 macroz and the same errors in 0.08
08:05 szabgab macroz: hmm
08:05 szabgab could you paste the error ?
08:08 macroz szabgab: well, it seems that error is the same as described here - http://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=67789
08:08 macroz and error messages are here http://pastie.org/1839326
08:09 szabgab then I guess dagolen already knows about it
08:09 szabgab none of the version wok on Ubuntu 11.04 ?
08:09 szabgab you could install it using aptitude
08:11 macroz szabgab: thanks, I think I will... but I just wanted fresh 0.84, not 0.76 which is in aptitude :)
08:11 szabgab macroz: install just the capture-tiny from aptitude
08:12 szabgab though I'd probably install padre from aptitude and then on top of it I'd install the newer version using local::lib
08:20 macroz szabgab: it worked! I successfully installed Capture-Tiny-0.08 using aptitude. Thanks a lot!

08:47 szabgab I have been working on this little project for a while

08:48 szabgab I wonder what should I do more before I start to show it to people

08:52 garu szabgab: what is it supposed to do?
08:52 garu the FAQ doesn't look very clear to me :(
08:54 szabgab Providing a deep view to the CPAN Perl packages or for any application written in Perl.
08:54 garu what does it mean, "deep view"? I tried a couple of modules and I can't see much difference than of what search.cpan does already
08:54 garu maybe I'm missing something
08:55 szabgab click on syn
08:55 szabgab http://cpandigger.org/syn/Dancer/lib/Dancer.pm
08:55 Sewi szabgab: Add a short introducation/description on the top of the form
08:55 garu I did, it shows the source with syntax highlighting
08:56 szabgab http://cpandigger.org/dist/Dancer/lib/Dancer.pm.json
08:56 garu szabgab: I'm not trying to bash the initiative or anything... I'm just trying to get it :)
08:56 Sewi This is cool: http://cpandigger.org/syn/Padre/lib/Padre.pm
08:56 szabgab I would like to make the syntax highlighted source to be clickable
08:56 Sewi Could you make the Module Names links?
08:57 szabgab so you can jump to the "definition of the method"
08:57 szabgab or that of a variable
08:57 szabgab Sewi: what dou you mean?
08:58 szabgab garu: though the key feature - compared to search.cpan.org is that this is open source ...
08:58 garu also, have you considered joining forces with metacpan? I heard they're looking for volunteers to implement new features
08:58 szabgab I considered it
08:58 garu no good?
08:59 szabgab don't know

09:00 szabgab I need it to be out *now* :)
09:00 garu ok :)
09:01 szabgab but I am alrady uing the author.json they got rolling
09:01 garu cool
09:01 szabgab but it is not in the database yet so you can only see it on the authors page
09:02 szabgab and in a very limited way

09:02 szabgab and I am generating  Perl::Critic results and Minimum Perl versions
09:03 garu right
09:03 garu well, sounds like something really nice might come out of it :)
09:04 szabgab I need now people like you to tell me what is missing *for you*
09:06 garu well, for one I think it needs some CSS :P
09:06 garu if you go-live like this, people might dismiss it due to "not pretty" or whatever
09:07 garu on the functional side, I don't know... I happen to like the alternatives
09:07 szabgab which alteernatives?
09:07 garu search.cpan.org and metacpan
09:08 garu there's also frepan.org
09:08 garu but I don't like it very much
09:08 garu oh, and grep.cpan.me
09:09 garu something that would smoothly integrate annocpan, cpangrep, cpants cpandeps and cpan itself would definitely be a winner

09:24 macroz Here is what I'm doing:

09:24 macroz 2. trying to close some of them, clicking on [X] near file name, no luck
09:24 macroz 3. switch to other window (irc chat window)
09:24 Sewi Hi macroz
09:24 Sewi Which Padre version, which OS?
09:25 macroz Sewi: ubuntu 11.04, Padre 0.84
09:27 Sewi I didn't upgrade to 11.04 until now because people report problems.
09:27 Sewi Anybody on 11.04 alive?
09:34 szabgab they all dropped dead :(
09:34 szabgab there is something really bad in 11.04 :)
09:36 macroz I think it's all about unity :) It breaks everything

09:44 zenog hi
09:44 zenog I use Padre on Ubuntu 11.04 on one of my computers.
09:44 zenog Works fine.
09:44 szabgab zenog: with Unity?
09:45 macroz left #padre
09:45 zenog szabgab: No, I use Ubuntu Classic.
09:45 zenog Could not start to like it.
09:45 zenog Also, the new gtk themes suck a little bit.
09:45 szabgab so maybe that's the key?
09:46 zenog In more complex user interfaces, it is awkward to handle scrollbars now, etc.
09:46 zenog I guess they will improve it over time, I guess I am not the only one having problems with it.
09:47 zenog But I do not see the point why I should suffer from it while there is existing software (GNOME/older Ubuntu) that runs perfectly fine ...
09:49 macroz joined #padre
09:50 macroz Well, I was right. It unity's issue. I switched to classic gnome, and everything works here.

13:36 bowtie szabgab, Q, is there a padre/cpan application which will correctly identify use/required dependencies for a Package
13:37 szabgab bowtie: it is a very hard issue as there can be optional and conditional dependencies along with platform dependent ones
13:37 szabgab so there are tools to try to guess but not of them is perfect
13:41 bowtie szabgab, thanks, having read about debs, along with ubuntu natty, it seams that a simple solution is 1, a complete list of ubuntu debs required, basic deb built with dh-make-perl and a plugin to help with natty problems :)
13:42 bowtie szabgab, opps 1, a complete list of ubuntu debs required, 2, basic deb built with dh-make-perl and 3, plugin to help with natty problems :)
13:43 szabgab you know you are welcome to hack on this :)
13:43 szabgab I am just too busy with the digger
13:43 bowtie szabgab, take advantage of the package system, fist rather than cpan,
13:45 bowtie szabgab, that's ok, so is there a detailed list of Padre decencies then,
14:01 szabgab bowtie: most modules keep that stuff in their Makefile.PL or Build.PL
14:01 szabgab which then gets to META.yml or META.json
14:05 bowtie szabgab, is Padre's Makefile and META complete and up to date?
14:05 szabgab yes of course
14:05 szabgab but you better take a look at the Makefile.PL
14:10 dodathome left #padre
14:10 szabgab bowtie: you probably should take a look at debian unstable and how they are packaging padre
14:11 bowtie szabgab, I have looked, but will look again, thanks
14:13 bowtie szabgab, I even read there DEBIAN config file.
14:17 szabgab I guess you only need to patch that and create a package using that - for a starter
14:20 bowtie szabgab, I was going to build from new then compare for differences, which would give ma a repeatable procedure
14:48 bowtie szabgab, if I want to print to padre Output form a padre plugin which module do i need to load in sub padre_interfaces, to get which method?
14:50 szabgab I don't recall but it is called Output I think :)

15:22 robinsmidsrod szabgab: regarding the problems with Debug::Client, I did force install it, and things seems to work - the only issue I had was that padre.exe didn't start properly, it gives some kind of exception dialog box, but starting it manually with wperl.exe $site_perl\bin\padre works
15:23 szabgab robinsmidsrod: great to hear that
15:23 szabgab I should work on the module and make it work everywhere :)
15:23 robinsmidsrod only issue was that the initial textarea wasn't sized to the bounding of the window, but a resize event on the main window made it proper
15:23 * robinsmidsrod didn't actually TRY to debug anything
15:23 meorero left #padre
15:23 szabgab that won't work I guess
15:23 robinsmidsrod just saying that padre didn't crash
15:24 szabgab that's always a good sign :)
15:24 robinsmidsrod and Win32::API installed on 64-bit
15:24 robinsmidsrod is there something in particular in Padre that uses that feature that has been problematic on 64-bit (of win32::api)?
15:25 szabgab I have no idea
15:25 robinsmidsrod so either COSIMO have fixed Win32::API, or CSJEWELL has fixed something in strawberry 5.12.3.0 or someone fixed something in perl 5.12.3
15:26 robinsmidsrod it did say that t/03_undef.t of win32::api was skipped though, something related to 64-bit
15:30 bowtie Q is Padre File New Distribution ... or New, do either of them work,
15:30 bowtie ... gives Usage: Wx::Button::GetDefaultSize(THIS) at /usr/src/Padre/Padre/lib/Padre/Wx/Dialog.pm line 461.
15:30 dolmen left #padre
15:30 bowtie and new appears to work but dose't
15:31 robinsmidsrod szabgab: I actually added all of the perl*.exe binaries to the firewall exception list, so that shouldn't be the cause of the socket teardown - and I don't have any other malware-protection that could rip them down
15:32 robinsmidsrod I guess the question is: how do I debug unsolicited socket teardown on windows...?
15:32 szabgab :)
15:33 robinsmidsrod I have a program called System Explorer, which can easily show open connections for all processes
15:38 szabgab I hardly use windows so I don't know how to help
15:41 robinsmidsrod szabgab: oh, I thought you were a windows guy, guess it's more apt to ask adam kennedy
15:42 szabgab I have windows on my netbook and  I use it here and there but I am mostly using Ubuntu
15:42 robinsmidsrod I use ubuntu 10.04 mostly for my perl dev myself, but I have this windows desktop that I occasionally like to fiddle with some perl, like SDL things and such
15:43 robinsmidsrod which is usually best to run locally, and not over the network
