06:30 tome Nice, got the packager working on linux, now able to build osx and linux packages/installers of Padre
06:30 szabgab tome+=
06:30 szabgab tome++
06:30 szabgab nice
06:30 szabgab I should try it on a clean virualbox
06:31 tome decided to toss in all the modules and see how large it makes things, trying that in OSX nox.
06:31 tome I have a centos5 virtualbox running for the linux builds
06:31 Hyppolit svn: r14953 | szabgab++ | http://padre.perlide.org/trac/changeset/14953
06:31 Hyppolit missed use
06:31 Hyppolit trunk/Padre/lib/Padre/Wx/
06:33 tome szabgab: I had trouble including the ::Perl6 and ::HTML plugin (and others still building) do you think those are critical for Padre package?
06:33 tome i could investigate further, I just removed them from the build list for now
06:33 szabgab I think the two important ones are the Tidy and the Critic plugins
06:33 szabgab the other are far less important IMHO
06:34 tome ah, yeah I had those initially. The size is very different with all the modules included, they pull in the world : )
06:34 szabgab and AFAIK the Perl6 is so out of date that it is not worth the effort now
06:34 tome how about datawalker or other debugging modules?
06:34 tome It may technically be possible for us to add modules during run time
06:35 tome since they are non-obfuscated
06:35 szabgab what do you mean "adding module during run time"?
06:35 tome The user says that they want the plack plugin
06:35 szabgab we are talking about ease of distribution here
06:35 tome in the packaged Padre, traditionally, you cannot add that
06:35 tome since it's all supposed to be self-contained
06:36 szabgab in the CPAN package of Padre we don't add them
06:36 szabgab but in the binary distribution we can inclue of course
06:37 szabgab and we should inclued every plugin that makes sense
06:37 szabgab BUT we don't have to start with that
06:37 szabgab we can have a distribution that only includes Padre   (and maybe Tidy and Critic)
06:37 szabgab and the next release might contain more
06:37 tome including them is very simple, but it means someone has to debug why ::SpellCheck just refused to install : )
06:38 szabgab if it refused to install then open a ticket on Trac
06:38 szabgab and then go and fix it :)
06:38 tome true, but one thing at a time...
06:38 tome (osx had a problem installing aspell)
06:38 szabgab that's what I am saying
06:39 szabgab so only package the most important plugins
06:39 szabgab or even no plugin
07:06 tome Ok here are the stats. With 'all' the plugins (about 17-20 I think), the DMG size is: 20.5 MB, and unpacked it's: 63.8 MB. If you only include the 3 core modules, the DMG is: 15.9 and the unpacked size is: 51.7MB
07:07 tome So it's probably fine to just include them all if you ask me. 10 MB diff.
07:08 szabgab I don't mind the size but do they work?
07:11 Hyppolit svn: r14954 | szabgab++ | http://padre.perlide.org/trac/changeset/14954
07:11 Hyppolit Update the messages.pot file
07:11 Hyppolit trunk/Padre/share/locale/
07:11 tome the plugins or the releases?
07:11 szabgab the plugins in the release

07:18 tome plugin manager causes a wxWidgets Debug alert (trying to see if plugins are working)
07:19 tome but once it does load it appears most of the plugins have loaded properly. Trying some out now.
07:22 tome Yup, Tidy and Critic work.
07:22 tome cool : )
07:24 tome Things that wont work are Install CPAN module (dies) etc. It's probably worth having two separate bug buckets: 1: OSX bugs 2: Packaged Padre bugs
07:26 szabgab and just plain Padre bugs :)
07:27 szabgab I think the CPAN installer does not work at all
07:27 tome hehe, nice. It could be hijacked to actually install Into the distributed Padre, was what I was saying...
07:28 tome but yeah that's probably like, round 3
07:29 szabgab tome: do you have access to Trac?
07:29 szabgab our Trac
07:29 tome sure
07:29 tome oh
07:29 tome I have a PAUSE account
07:29 tome so no
07:29 szabgab that won't help you here :)
07:30 szabgab register?
07:30 Hyppolit register is http://padre.perlide.org/trac/register
07:30 szabgab go and register there
07:31 tome I'm in
07:31 tome tome
07:31 szabgab ok
07:31 szabgab so when you open a ticket you can set a component
07:32 szabgab that could be seen as a category
07:33 tome You're thinking one for 'osx'
07:33 szabgab so if you think, we can create one like that
07:33 szabgab yes
07:34 tome is there a way to view tickets by component?
07:34 tome Doesn't seem to be a report
07:34 szabgab though we might file them under the real padre component that is broken and mention OSX in the tags and in the text
07:34 szabgab http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/Features
07:35 szabgab I think for each component we have an entry in the list of featurs
07:36 tome got it, nice
07:41 tome ok here's my plan. I got a 32bit linux Package working, and OSX universal binary. I want to get 32 bit Windows (that's all I have) tomorrow. Once I get those, I'll post them up. Then I'll start opening bugs for OSX. You can have a look at the Packages I upload tomorrow and give me any feedback. Also, if you check out my github you can get all the instructions for creating a package, though the instructions are geared for
07:41 tome osx, where my padre-brew.pl script just works. On linux I had to hand-install some of the Wx stuff, as usual.
07:42 tome Since you already have Padre on linux, my padre-brew.pl script will probably just work out of the box actually.. So building a linux package for you should be just following the directions I wrote from Mark's work (included in the github)
07:42 szabgab why don't you post your linux distro now?
07:43 szabgab and the OSX one?
07:43 szabgab and where do you plan to upload them?
07:44 tome szabgab: sure, let me create new ones that have the plugins in them, for your testing pleasure, and then upload. My one uploaded package has no plugins. I'll put them on my server for now. Give me about 20 min to re-build and publish.
07:45 szabgab sure and then we should announce them on the padre-dev list asking for feedback
07:51 tome sure, but I'd like to test the linux one out a bit more in that case, I've run Padre on it but I want to at least try to run it on another linux system. (I built it on an AMD64 hosting a virtualbox running centos5 32 bit.)
07:53 tome the OSX all-plugins build is available here: http://tomeliaz.com/padre/builds/Padre-0.86/

08:52 szabgab 20 M each?
08:53 szabgab will you send a mail to padre-dev or shall I ?
08:56 tome I'll be happy to send the mail (yes, 20M each, is that too big?)
08:56 szabgab too small if anything :)
08:56 szabgab I was just verifying though

08:59 tome I also want to change my padre-brew script to automatically try to resume building modules if it's invoked over an existing PadreApp directory. Right now you have to pass it a parameter to tell it to keep going.
08:59 szabgab tome: don't worry just send the mail now and send an update once you have athe windows version aswell

11:05 bowtie why do we have to load Wx::Scintilla, instead of just testing for version

17:41 tome do you guys want me to open up two streams of bugs, one for Padre on OSX when run through a CPAN install, and one for osx run through the packager? Or should we just have one big list of bugs that only occur in the packaged version.
17:42 tome For example the preference window size bug seems to be somehow related to the Packaged padre, not the straight-from-cpan padre.
17:42 szabgab tome: a bug is a bug, in its description you can describe when does that happen and in which environment
17:42 tome rather than the 'osx' keywork, I could use cava-osx or something similar
17:42 szabgab we have bugs that only appear on Windows
17:43 szabgab and bugs that only occur on Linux
17:43 szabgab so just file the bugs one by one and we'll see how to categorize them
17:43 bowtie tome, what about putting OSX in keyword field
17:44 tome that's what I've been putting, but now I want to put osx-packaged -vs- just osx
17:45 bowtie tome, why 12 charters when 3 will do
17:46 tome to distinguish between bugs that only occur in the packaged version of the osx, versus those that appear in both the packaged and non-packaged version
17:46 bowtie szabgab, what do you think
17:46 tome but I am totally happy to label them all as OSX and specify in the bug text.
17:52 Hyppolit wiki page http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/SandBox changed by bowtie
17:52 bowtie tome, then we can do things like this : http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/SandBox
17:53 tome [osx cava]  [osx]
17:53 tome good?
17:54 bowtie tome, look at link, its just searching for osx
17:58 tome bowtie: how about this: all osx bugs will have a keyword osx. The bugs that are only related to the packaged version will also have a cava keyword. I'll make it clear in the subject and text of the bug, as well, if it only happens on the packaged build.
17:59 bowtie tome, if you want to search, as in sandbox, just be consistent, the naming is up to you

Then at some point something happens and it always comes up maximized after that. I'm guessing some preference gets saved and borked
18:39 tome ha nice, run in debug mode and it's fine size... sigh
18:41 bowtie tome, run padre with: perl dev -a --die, will give you access to all plugins and error messages
18:47 tome this is making padre hang (and hang my system) though it doesn't seem to spike the CPU, so something really strange is going on... nothing interesting shown on the console
18:58 bowtie tome, silly Q, you did perl Makefile.PL and make ?
19:10 tome (sorry afk)

19:22 tome bowtie: yup, my padre is definitely the SVN version 87

19:22 bowtie tome, and?
19:22 tome it's probably related to properties in some way, since it doesn't happen the first time I run it. I can debug into the code that opens that window
19:23 tome bowtie: basically sme behavior as the bug report. After the first times using padre, it starts showing properties as full screen. When I try to use -a --die, Padre just hangs the system.. an no special output on terminal, so that's not useful.
19:23 tome when I run it under -d I do not see the problem
19:23 tome : )
19:24 bowtie tome, silly Q, what os are you running trunk from?
19:24 tome osx
19:25 tome 10.6.8
19:25 bowtie tome, what version of perl?
19:25 tome 5.14.1
19:25 tome let me get you the wx versions too
19:26 tome wx: 0.9901, wxWidgets: 2.8.8 Alien::wxWidgets 2.08008
19:27 tome (scintilla finally showed up in my about:)

19:49 bowtie szabgab, it's only when you look at ConfigDB via Cookbook do you see it's wrong, also do we not want all plugins to use ConfigDB and config.ymal for Padre settings?

22:54 tome Is there a way to get Padre to color keywords differently than other things, for example use Moose; where use is one color and Moose is another (this is the cperl default for example). I have feature_use_scintilla set, but it still not giving me anything like cperl.
22:55 bowtie tome, look at PPI experimental, it knows how to colourise
22:56 bowtie tome, limited to 4k files
22:56 tome that's what I'm using, maybe I need to change the feature_use_scintilla in advanced?
22:56 tome not sure how they are related
22:57 tome no luck, turned off feature_wx_scintilla, set color to PPI experimental, opened a new file, and use Moose is still all in blue
22:57 bowtie tome,  i think you will need to restart for it to take affect
22:57 tome ouch
22:58 mj41 left #padre
22:59 tome still no luck, actually much worse, should I enable feature_wx_scintilla?
23:00 bowtie tome wx-sci = false
23:00 tome oddly, now the preview box in preferences shows No coloring
23:01 tome though my actual source code retains its mostly colorized form
23:01 bowtie tome look at #1194
23:01 Hyppolit # 1194 :  PPI Experimental & Skeleton Build (reopened defect) by bowtie  [ http://padre.perlide.org/trac/ticket/1194#comment:6 ]
23:05 tome hmm, the file itself is 620 lines long... and it is colored (but use and the package name are the same blue). But in my preferences now the preview window has no syntax coloring
23:05 * tome finds that odd
23:06 bowtie tome, the syntax type is on status bar
23:07 tome ah that's great, very smart
23:08 bowtie tome, look at file->doc stats
23:09 tome cool yes I confirm that as soon as I open this file it falls back to Scintilla, though it said PPI Exp. before I opened it
23:10 tome I'll see if I can change the limit and see how it behaves for my file
23:10 bowtie tome, the ticket tells you how to adjust the breakpoint

23:11 bowtie tome, just search for files in trunk lib containing 4000
23:13 tome yey, now at least my use is colored differently than my Moose
23:14 bowtie tome, watch your resources
23:14 tome does PPI have any plans of getting better? What do you think will be the direction for Padre

23:23 bowtie tome, in trunk you will find padre/share/styles these are yaml files just copy default and play
23:24 bowtie tome have a look at: http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/Features/SyntaxHighlightingTable
23:24 tome thanks bowtie, that's exactly where I need to start
23:25 bowtie tome, I want a perldoc look, so my ide and svn all look the same
23:27 tome are those all of the elements extracted by PPI for example, in that wiki?
23:27 tome or are there more
23:30 bowtie tome, I started from the point, perldoc is a standard. as per contents  of style, I don't know if it is complete, or just a subset used by its creator
