06:47 user_6833 Hi, I just installed Perl and Padre and need your help. When I run the Hello World script, it opens a cmd-window for output and error. How can I get them printed at the bottom of the Padre window?

22:54 Bonzoli Crazy padre modding question if anyone has sec
22:56 bowtie joined #padre
22:57 bowtie Bonzoli, hi
22:58 Bonzoli o/
22:58 bowtie ask away
22:59 Bonzoli Was curious if anyone though perhaps moding padre/plugin perhaps to make it an Epub/Mobi reader?
22:59 Bonzoli the modules on cpan have most of the needed elements
22:59 Fosforo1 joined #padre
22:59 Bonzoli could edit also, but seems reading would be an easy win
23:00 Bonzoli I've been tinkering with Wx::html and honestly I am terrible at it I think, got it working but just seems like I'm remaking the wheel
23:00 jnap_ joined #padre
23:00 bowtie if you want to create a Padre::Plugin (P-P | pp) to do that you can
23:01 Bonzoli the wiki plugin link was tossing me errors so not sure even where to get that info
23:01 bowtie yes
23:02 bowtie do you intend to do this with menues or a dialog or panel?
23:03 Bonzoli I'd probably do epub first, have to create a panel to control page turning and font size changes to make it easy I'd think, might even want to css change it so the background/font colors can be adjusted to personal prefference
23:04 bowtie ok
23:04 bowtie have you looked at wxFormBuilder v3.1.70
23:04 bowtie also pp-formbuilder
23:04 Bonzoli the display would have to be able to follow html links in the book and the graphics would need to display in the windows if there are gifs
23:06 Bonzoli I haven't looked at either
23:06 bowtie see -> http://blogs.perl.org/users/adam_kennedy/2011/07/padre-form-builder---a-cross-platform-gui-design-solution-for-perl.html
23:06 Bonzoli hmm , if its a wx lib I probably have to some extent at this point
23:07 Bonzoli oh haven't seen this yet
23:07 bowtie we use wxformbuilder to create dialogs and panels
23:07 bowtie then use pp-formbuilder to create stub code
23:08 Bonzoli this work in windows?
23:08 bowtie if you want to see an example of this see -> https://metacpan.org/module/Padre::Plugin::Cookbook
23:08 Bonzoli hmm, read comment at lower part
23:09 bowtie there are several examples in there you can view
23:09 Bonzoli excellent that is exactly what I was looking for
23:09 Bonzoli I'm not a graphics guy at all and this will help me out a bunch, wonder why googling didn't find this
23:10 bowtie as for the companion wiki you will just have to wait, it's in maintenance at the moment
23:11 Mithaldu joined #padre
23:11 Bonzoli yea, something that shows this to people would certainly have saved me several days hehe. :)
23:11 Bonzoli looks nice
23:11 Bonzoli oh does the formbuilder work on windows 7?
23:11 Bonzoli I'm on linux but hate to break something if I'm not aware of stuff.
23:12 bowtie linux yes, what dist?
23:13 Bonzoli I'm on fedora 16 64bit , have a fedora 13 32bit, a few inbetween.   I have a lot of there types at work
23:13 bowtie ok, just not you want v3.1.70 as that is the current Padre dev standard
23:14 Bonzoli ok
23:16 bowtie the cookbook mainly covers, dialog plugins
23:17 Bonzoli well if you wanted to edit the metadata that would be interesting
23:17 bowtie if you want to do pannels look in pp-swarm thats pannel based
23:18 bowtie get the current version fron padre svn
23:18 bowtie try -> http://svn.perlide.org/padre/trunk/Padre-Plugin-Swarm/
23:18 Bonzoli have you ever used calibre? python based, but interesting wx usage.
23:19 bowtie sorry no
23:20 bowtie Bonzoli, is that enough to get you going, when trac is back up, you might like to add to the cookbook pages for things that I have missed of add a new page about plugin panels
23:21 bowtie s/of/or/
23:21 Bonzoli ok, going to tinker with these a bit, might take a me a few days to get into it deep to ask more useful questions.  Seems enough to get me started
23:21 Bonzoli I appreciate the help
23:21 bowtie also look at Wx::Demo
23:21 Bonzoli the demo I've taken apparte a lot
23:21 Bonzoli apart
23:22 Bonzoli the issue is padre has other functions that work with other functions all of which are useful but a bit hard for a novice gui guy to get into easily, formbuilder might be the right way for me to start out with it
23:23 Bonzoli once wrote a really neat admin took in perl::gtk, then about 1.5 years after gtk2 was the new standard and the work to upgrade the first one made me very unhappy, I'm trying to avoid that again
23:23 Bonzoli took/tool
23:24 bowtie it's a bit like using glade for gtk2
23:24 Bonzoli I used glade a bit, the xrc<?> files were ok, but yea coding post that gave me that feeling
23:24 Bonzoli I have done a few tiny things in it though
23:25 bowtie it make sense to use wxformbuilder here as that is the way we now do it in Padre
23:26 Bonzoli I do a lot of perl stuff, created a fairly large perl::helios product for work here last year, but ussually I do gui's in html, but ebook reader really isn't useful there. :)
23:26 Bonzoli I'm going to break open the formbuilder and see how best to make a fit for a simple epub reader to start
23:27 Bonzoli if I can get a simple one going then I'd be happy to tinker till it was what I wanted
23:27 bowtie Bonzoli, are you running Padre from trunk?
23:27 Bonzoli atm I think its just cpan install
23:28 bowtie ok
23:28 Bonzoli I'll have to get that all up to date
23:28 Bonzoli cpan was easiest for me to install and get the prereq's in on fedora
23:28 Fosforo joined #padre
23:28 bowtie to do plugin dev IMHO you need to do this from with in trunk, it's easer in long run
23:29 Bonzoli yea, I'll get that updated here then start digging into docs.  Probably wont have a huge amount of time or brain power till tomorrow hehe. :) bit wore out
23:29 bowtie as you can edit and relod code with out having to go through enless mak installs
23:30 bowtie http://svn.perlide.org/padre/trunk/ to get Padre trunk
23:30 Bonzoli hmm, didn't think of this, if there are graphics in an ebook, does padre handle thos already ok in the display?
23:30 bowtie opps s/mak/make/
23:31 bowtie graphic as in png/jpg
23:31 Bonzoli yea or possibly gif
23:31 Bonzoli whatever mobi or epub supports I'd guess, epub is mostly html so never know
23:32 bowtie should that not be irrelevant to html
23:32 Bonzoli yep
23:32 bowtie or is wx-html fussey
23:32 Bonzoli wx window I used for testing was not happy
23:32 Bonzoli probably need to load different
23:32 Bonzoli it did the html fine
23:32 bowtie I have not used a wx-html yet
23:33 Bonzoli when the graphics dir ws not there it showed a broken icon/image when it had the graphics it gave errors for each and showed nothing in that spot
23:33 Bonzoli I think it was htmlwindow
23:33 bowtie manly CrtList for my mods
23:33 Bonzoli hmm, have to get my laptop to look again
23:34 Bonzoli was about to dig deeper then thought padre was probably a better starting point vs from scratch perl
23:34 bowtie I am gmt +1, so it's getting late here ok
23:35 Bonzoli ok, thanks for the help...
