08:30 WeeDom Morning. Is there anywhere I can currently get padre for mac from? The wiki download pages have been unavailable for well over a week, now
08:32 azawawi hi
08:32 azawawi let me check
08:34 azawawi http://www.perlmonks.org/?node_id=910271
08:34 azawawi hopefully that will help out
08:35 azawawi im sorry that trac is down but Gabor is still busy with the server move and YAPC:NA
08:35 azawawi and his car :)
08:41 WeeDom thanks :) I'll give that a go. Who is Gabor? I've heard that name a few times, now, in connection with trac
08:44 azawawi SZABGAB = Gabor Szabo = Padre's creator
08:45 WeeDom ah, ok. thanks
08:46 azawawi np
08:46 WeeDom so who's Peter Lavender?
08:46 * WeeDom is nosey

10:09 azawawi hi
10:10 bowtie hi, no gardening today :)
10:10 azawawi yesterday
10:10 bowtie how's it coming along
10:11 azawawi nearly done :)
10:11 azawawi Basically fences to block off insect virus attacks... :)
10:11 bowtie that's an understatement
10:12 bowtie did you know that you can use certain plants and tress for that
10:13 bowtie my late uncle was nuts about gardening
10:16 bowtie azawawi, how are doing with the Arabic translation of Padre?
10:33 azawawi im doing nothing :)
10:33 azawawi reading time...
11:05 bowtie azawawi, as you are lost  for time ...
11:05 bowtie how about ... :)

11:18 bowtie azawawi, why don't you apply that patch for VCS feature, or how about that great plugin Snippets, I so want to be able to use them :)

13:10 mib_c5ljex Morning all.
13:11 tome morning
13:12 mib_c5ljex Can anyone tell me if Padre works with Windows 7?
13:12 azawawi mib_c5ljex: morning
13:12 azawawi mib_c5ljex: yes im using it right now on win7 strawberry perl 5.16
13:12 mib_c5ljex I installed it yesterday and when I attempted to run it nothing happened.  The program didn't launch
13:13 azawawi tome: hi
13:13 tome hi azawawi
13:13 bowtie joined #padre
13:13 mib_c5ljex I am attempting to install again right now.
13:13 tome how's it going?
13:14 jnap joined #padre
13:14 azawawi fine
13:15 tome What's the recommended Perl for the latest CPAN version of Padre?
13:15 mib_c5ljex http://padre.perlide.org/download.html
13:16 mib_c5ljex Is that the location I should be downloading Padre from?
13:16 bowtie tome. good question, min v5.10
13:16 jnap joined #padre
13:16 tome which one should I spin the new OSX version with, 5.14, 5.16?
13:17 azawawi 5.16 :)
13:17 daxim 5.16, because it's the latest stable version, containing many bugfixes and improvements over the previous ones
13:17 azawawi daxim: hi :)
13:17 daxim hi, what's the matter?
13:18 tome thanks all, will do
13:18 azawawi nothing just wanted to say hi
13:18 mib_c5ljex Looks like I got Padre working again.
13:18 mib_c5ljex I installed it on my alternate laptop and it worked fine.
13:18 bowtie i agree, but there is that test, which fails against 5.16
13:26 tome One big issue people report on OSX is trying out the packaged version and then trying to re-run their old from-source version, and they run into problems because the settings database isn't compatible (it's been upgraded by the package version for example).  I can think of a few possible solutions, but I wonder what you all think of the issue.
13:41 bowtie azawawi, did you read that M Dod made a change to Wx::Scintilla in trunk,
13:42 bowtie Padre trunk test fail against Perl 5.16 -> 38_task_manager.t
13:52 dod uh ?
13:55 bowtie dod, hi, did you not make an addition to  Wx::Scintilla 6/7 weeks ago?
13:58 dod bowtie: I don't thik I have  commit bits to your repo. Anyway, I did have some issues with task-manager test so I've patched Debian version to skip the problematic test
13:58 dod see http://patch-tracker.debian.org/patch/series/view/padre/0.96+dfsg1-1/skip-fishy-test
13:58 dod And I've looged the issue on trac
13:59 azawawi bowtie: yeah i read it :)
14:00 bowtie dod, sorry, my bad, I got confused, should have said M DOOTSON re Wx::Scintilla
14:00 dod I may have been a tad optimistic with the "no further problem found" statement. padre blows up quite often. The core dumps often (but not always) point to thread issues
14:00 dod bowtie: no problem :-)
14:03 bowtie dod, I like your patch, as for a better solution, we should ask alias I think
14:04 bowtie azawawi, are you going to release 0.3802 now?
14:12 azawawi sure maybe tomorrow
14:14 bowtie azawawi, cool :)
14:15 bowtie dod, the other day someone was complaining about the French translation, how bad is it?
14:17 dod Ahem, I use mostly the english version ... I'll have a look
14:18 bowtie dod, thanks
14:19 bowtie dod, see -> http://irclog.perlgeek.de/padre/2012-06-08#i_5702500
14:22 dod Well, there are some untranslated string (mostly in debud menu).
14:23 dod Some translation are weird (CamelCase => CasseChameau), but I would have some trouble finding a better translation without using 10 words :-p
14:25 dod And preferences is indeed translated as "options" which makes sense. In this case may be préférences would be better to ease communication between users and developers.
14:25 bowtie dod, so we can put it down to new user lack of familiarization then :)
14:25 dod But I do think sam31 was a bit harsh
14:26 dod bowtie: yes,
14:26 bowtie I did suggest that sam31 become a translator :)
14:26 dod In fact, the sore point may be the extension: few of them are translated,
14:27 dod Hmm, the ones that complain are usually not the ones that contribute :-/
14:27 bowtie quite so :)
14:37 azawawi bowtie: fyi, perl tidy is now bad... :)
14:37 azawawi bowtie: say $spreadsheet =~ s/=HASH.+$//r;
14:37 azawawi bowtie: becomes
14:37 azawawi bowtie: say $spreadsheet =~ s/=HASH.+$//<space>r;
14:38 azawawi bowtie: and generate a syntax error
14:39 azawawi bowtie: https://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=68870
14:39 bowtie azawawi, have you tried the unreleased patch for perl tidy
14:40 azawawi nop
14:41 bowtie azawawi, you need it, to fix latest regex extensions, it's bean there for ages, works ok, I have used it against 5.14.2
14:43 * azawawi home sweet home &
14:43 bowtie azawawi, yes 68870

15:02 RayL is there a tutorial on how to use Padre?
15:03 bowtie RayL, there are several videos, try you tube
15:04 RayL I'm writing a filter script and can't see how to supply the input data via stdin.
15:05 bowtie RayL, ok, look here: Tools -> Prefs -> Perl 5
15:05 RayL OK, thanks
15:43 tome Howdy all, I've got a new OSX package almost built, just waiting for Cava tools to come back online (not sure when) so I can get a new version and build the DMG. If there is anyone who wants to keep helping with OSX issues, we've got a few big ones that could use some help.
15:46 bowtie tome, try stkowski, he is based in the valley
15:48 bowtie tome,  stkowski did the updates to OSX in trac
15:49 bowtie with different build methods
15:49 tome yup, very cool, saw those
15:49 tome the problem wth OSX is that our DMG approach (the traditional packaging) locks up the perl, we need module install to install modules into the DMG perl... will take a little work.
15:50 tome it doesn't actually lock it up, but it bundles a perl with padre
15:51 bowtie tome, if i recall did stkowski do a carver install notes as well
15:51 bowtie s/carver/Cava/

15:53 tome I don't recall. Though certainly the 'install from source' documentation needed updating last I looked, so that would be great.

22:01 bowtie azawawi, have you been sleep gardening :)
22:02 azawawi no im looking how to check for memory usage in Perl...
22:02 azawawi Memory::Usage sucks in win32... it is unix-y but does not admit it...
22:04 bowtie Valgrind
22:06 azawawi or better Devel::Size total_size...
22:06 bowtie ok
22:07 shadowpaste "azawawi" at 217.168.150.38 pasted "XLS/XLSX memory usage" (29 lines) at http://paste.scsys.co.uk/200704
22:07 bowtie most people like to sleep :), but you would rather go leak detecting :)
22:09 azawawi i was in #mojo today
22:09 azawawi and a guy asked about XLSX
22:10 azawawi i was wondering how Perl modules behave from a speed/memory usage point of view
22:11 bowtie O, that's the naff spreadsheet by ms to avoid law suites, that is alpha based, thus not a spreadsheet, as it's not numerate lol
22:11 azawawi lol
22:11 azawawi anyways.. time to sleep :)
