09:12 anotheranne my padre is broken. when I invoke it (ubuntu 10.02 LTS) the splashscreen appears briefly and then is off and that is it - no padre
09:13 anotheranne this occurred after a failed install for perltidy from cpan, and then I tried Padre::Plugin::PerlTidy which install also did not go well
09:15 anotheranne I cannot say what version I have but now think it is one back before the full implementation of plugins, cannot load any modules through Padre, they all have a red square adjacent.
09:15 anotheranne bowtie was looking at this but my wifi went off air and I could not stay connected
09:16 anotheranne I am wondering whether I should uninstall Padre and start again in the absence of any other specific suggestions
09:32 El_Che have you tried launching padre from the command line?
09:32 El_Che and look at the output?
10:24 anotheranne yes, the output is the same, a fast-disappearing splash screen
10:28 El_Che ok
10:29 El_Che can you do:
10:29 El_Che mv ~/.padre ~/.padre_orig
10:29 El_Che and restart padre?
10:29 El_Che look first if the dir is there
10:30 El_Che it could be in ~/.local/share/.padre
10:30 El_Che bbl food
10:31 El_Che worst case scenarion, just reinstall "sudo apt-get install --reinstall padre"
10:31 El_Che the modules should not beremoved like that
10:33 anotheranne ok, I am at work this morning, I'll process that later this weekend and let you know. many thanks
10:35 anotheranne have a nice weekend, bye

18:58 azawawi hi
18:58 azawawi bowtie: ping
18:59 azawawi bowtie: i just committed a Perl::Critic enhancement. I hope you will like it :)
19:29 bowtie azawawi, hi, been cooking
19:30 azawawi svn up
19:31 azawawi http://code.google.com/p/farabi/source/detail?r=197
19:33 bowtie azawawi, cool
19:33 azawawi i have been thinking in what direction to take farabi
19:33 bowtie try adding a version in two parts,
19:33 bowtie 1, our $VERSION ='0.101'
19:34 bowtie then 2, put the ; on the end of line and see what critic dose
19:37 azawawi paste plz?
19:39 bowtie azawawi, it works, but the critic output is amusing, try for yourself
19:39 bowtie I was using brutel
19:41 bowtie don't get me wrong, I like the concept
19:41 azawawi lol
19:41 azawawi i saw it
19:41 azawawi Perl::Critic talks a lot
19:41 azawawi rubbish lol
19:41 azawawi now back to the direction to where Farabi is going
19:42 azawawi basically running things on local Perl is out of the question
19:42 azawawi even in a Safe.pm compartment
19:42 bowtie hehe
19:42 azawawi it exposes the system to a lot of vulnerabilies
19:42 azawawi and will cause headache to everybody :)
19:42 bowtie yes
19:43 bowtie so safe.pm is an oxymoron
19:44 azawawi yup
19:44 azawawi basically the problem with it is that it is not thread-based... :)
19:45 azawawi if it ran something and Perl had some control over thread priority and memory limits
19:45 azawawi then yes
19:45 azawawi Safe would be safe
19:45 azawawi please take a look at Chrome security model
19:45 bowtie hope I did not make to much noise the other day, doing pull requests, but its working now in pp-git
19:45 azawawi no worries
19:45 azawawi p5p makes more noise :)
19:45 azawawi especially the ~~ talk
19:46 El_Che good evening and brrr
19:46 bowtie O, that, it started off being interesting, and ended up in the bike shed
19:46 El_Che that ~~ has been a huge waste of effort bringing  nothing much to the language
19:47 azawawi the question is
19:47 azawawi what is ~~ :)
19:47 azawawi and 2) why do i need in core...? :)
19:47 El_Che If you need to check a table to figure out what the code will do is a #FAIL
19:48 azawawi so back to Farabi future direction, Safe.pm is not safe :)
19:48 azawawi and so no local execution in Farabi...
19:48 azawawi that leaves us to rely on Perlito
19:49 El_Che sandboxing is hard
19:49 El_Che you need for starting a sandbox on the machine
19:49 azawawi best sandbox so far = vmware :)
19:49 azawawi those guys are something
19:50 El_Che "please put in your serial number to continue the installation of farabi..."
19:50 azawawi :)
19:50 azawawi generate trial and re-use :)
19:50 azawawi oh i forgot my username/password
19:50 azawawi regenerate password...
19:50 azawawi :)
19:51 El_Che we made a lot of progress to get a modern perl distribution on solaris btw
19:51 El_Che I wish I had more time
19:52 El_Che the last compiling core errors are gone, and the last failing test (bug in test not in core) as well
19:52 El_Che both time I contacted  the #p5p guys they were very nice
19:52 El_Che I put on my fire-safe cistume for nothing :)
19:53 bowtie I saw
19:53 azawawi not bad
19:54 El_Che pre-compiled solaris packages on solaris are 5.8, 5.10 at best and the up to date ones are behind a pay wall (activestate restricted the community version to osx, linux and mac)
19:56 bowtie El_Che, so what have you been running on your solaris 5.16.1 build of perl
19:57 El_Che I have a private 5.14.* build
19:57 azawawi https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B6iQfKNgFvdZUFBsWHQyS0RuT3M
19:57 El_Che But I decided to work more with the csw guys to get their perl up to date
19:57 El_Che so I can use theirs
19:57 El_Che everyone wins
19:58 bowtie sorry, thought you had 5.16.1 up and running
19:58 bowtie csw?
19:58 El_Che I have it, but not in production
19:58 El_Che opencsw.org
19:58 bowtie thanks
19:58 El_Che let say: free and open soft packaged for solaris
19:59 El_Che it compiled, passed the 2500 test of perl core (after the #p5p patch)
19:59 El_Che but I havent packaged yet
19:59 El_Che my local packages are 100% dependant on Solaris packages
19:59 El_Che for their csw build I have to use their stack (depedencies)
20:00 El_Che so it's a lot more tricky
20:00 azawawi i see
20:00 El_Che don't get me wrong, their build system is really good
20:00 El_Che but the config is through Makefile
20:01 El_Che so I feels like writing voodoo
20:03 azawawi Makefile is easy
20:04 azawawi :)
20:04 azawawi one thing that makes me wonder perl Makefile.PL or perl Build.PL
20:05 azawawi it is the number of choices that we give the user that sometimes makes him afraid to use Perl...
20:05 El_Che you're a voodoo man
20:05 azawawi actually yes
20:05 azawawi i owned a voodoo card :)
20:05 El_Che when reading Makefiles I see dead arrays all the time (@) :)
20:05 azawawi so im a voodoo man
20:05 bowtie lol
20:06 azawawi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:IntergraphVoodooRush.jpg
20:06 azawawi Voodoo Rush to be exact
